To be fair they've been to two Finals. That's still more impressive than what even the Timberwolves are starting to build into after years of mediocrity
Yeah in terms of expansion teams of the late 80s to the mid 90s the Magic are a better franchise than everyone except the Heat. Edit: Raptors too.
True, Minnesota has only won a single division title, had only one year where they won a playoff series, and all of that was the same year in 2004 where they had their only conference finals appearance way back with Kevin Garnett
People are harsh on the Magic because it feels like they should have had more success. I mean the Wolves have been poorly managed for most of their history. Magic tho, they had a ton of luck: had the number 1 pick when two generational big men were available, lucked into the Raptors undervaluing Tracy. Yet each time they managed to shoot themselves in the foot: antagonizing Shaq and trying to make it seem like he wasn't worth the money, blowing the chance to land Tim Duncan, etc. They've def been the second most successful of the late 80's expansion teams but I think if they had better management/owners they'd have won a chip by now. Think that'll change soon with this new regime.

Losing to the Magic G1 R1 proved that those losers needed luck the whole run. Crapturds are the luckiest dogshit franchise in our league. As a FL i know that, because I recall all the stupid, desperate Leafs asking me directions to VC's highschool. AKA Maitland.

Remember Ernie Grunfeld by all accounts was one of the worst GMs in the NBA and was there for nearly twenty years. Wizards are a poverty franchise with a terrible owner who doesn't really care about the team.
They won’t they are taking things slow unlike most modern sports teams
NBA owners are afraid ( rightly so) to rebuild and go into the red. Sometimes free agents just don't do it or Labron. At one time or another you have to rebuild with youth and blend that with a veteran presence. I mentioned Labron because after Kobe retired the Lakers were rebuilding with Julius Randle, D. Russell, B. Ingram, Jason Hart, Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Clarkson, even Lonzo Ball who showed "flashes" of Potential. Luke Walton was not thee answer or he might have been had he had the chance to develope that young core. Bravo to the Magic Rock on!
Paolo is a stud. Franz is a stud. Suggs is finally healthy and becoming more confident. Our bugaboo is injuries, cant keep having 7-8 man squads because half the team is hurt.

The Magic have surprised everyone with how well they’ve been playing this year. With a roster full of young high basketball IQ guys plus Banchero and Wagner being the franchise pieces, the Magic are headed in the right direction and it’s great to see a young team like that flourish.
Man they're a gritty defensive team, it's fun to watch. Issac isn't even fully up to scratch and Paulo is proving he's a monster. It's gonna be a fun couple of years

York or Milwaukee can't sleep on them thinking it's going to be a easy series..

2. Surround that generational big with great role players
3. Reach the Finals

Franz Wagner is anything but a "role player." By most advanced metrics he's a top 35 player in the league, and actually more valuable than Banchero due to similar offensive production and FAR better defense.
I think the Orlando Magic are heading towards the right direction , they have moved strides in the Paolo Banchero era and it’s gonna be a lot for this team after all the losing year after year

Before all the injuries (8 players out over the last 9 games) they had the 2ed best record in the East. Not saying they'd end the season at 2ed but if they can get fully healthy teams better watch out.

Dwight did end up having back surgery before he got traded so I don't think so. He had a few more years as an All Star afterwards but he wasn't the same player he was before.
It's wild, because this trajectory that Orlando is going on reminds me of boston. The reason why I always laugh when people criticized Jayson Tatum is because of this scenario: you have players who are essentially scores who can do a little bit of everything but you now need to sacrifice some of that defense in the future for consistency in ball handling and better offensive players
Orlandoo getting the Bulls pick, whilst both the Bulls being trash that year as well as nailing it definetly sped it up. Its very hard to find players like Wagner at the moment.
I wouldn't call it an era neither but people forgot too easily the numbers Vucevic was putting up nightly!

facts, he is the best defender in the NBA by Per 36min metrics, and people forget he was averaging 18/19pts in the last month before their bubble playoff appearance, if he was healthy as a fulltime center they would be insane.

I love watching the Magic just ball out. They've been a joke for pretty much a decade so it's refreshing to see them play out their potential. Just from watching them play, you could see their defense holding up and their offense having potential to be sufficient (just need more reliable shooters on this end, most of the roster is good at cutting to the rim tho)
Magic got the rebuild right especially when they got Polo Banchero 2 years ago #1 overall pick. The Pistons need to study the Magic formula....

Saying Johnathan Issac is a bust is causal talk if he qualified and played more than 16 minutes per game he’d have the best defensive rating for an individual player in the league.

Mo's unyielding energy, his mentality and his often childlike manner are impressive to see every time. When he goes for a dunk and his scream goes through the arena...it's funny. He's definitely not the best player on the team, but he's very important for the energetic fun factor in the team chemistry and every now and then he puts in an all-star performance. The current Magic team will hopefully keep us happy for a few more years.

Love to see the Magic headed in this direction. I would say to combine the contracts of Ingles, Fultz, Isaac, Harris, and Wendell Carter and see what you can get for that, but you also wouldn’t want to rush their process.

Jingles is not getting traded. One he’s the vet for this young Magic team. Second, his contract has a team option in the second year. So the ball is in their court to determine whether they will keep him or not. JI’s defense is why the Magic will keep him around. Plus with his history of injuries, his value on the trade market will not be worth much.

Andy great video thanks for breaking down how my magic have rebuilt, I think nba teams should model themselves more after the magic thunder and pacers when it comes to rebuilding and the cavs as an honorable mention pacers won’t have long term success at that pace they play tho
But the theme should letting the young guys grow with vets if you have em and if your rebuilding just keep young guys together to let them go if you can instill responsibility into them, if not just get a vet or 2
This all because of Jeff Waltman. He drafted Giannis in Milwaukee and Siakam for the Raptors. The Magic desperately wanted Jeff, and as compensation, they gave the 2018 1st round pick to the Raptors.
Great video about the Magic. But a few errors: Weltman was already head of basketball operations when Clifford reached the playoffs twice with (allstar) Vooch-Gordon Team. John Hammond was GM, Anthony Parker was just installed before this season. Isaac is not really considered a bust. He is a defensive game changer, unfortunately always injured. Jett Howard was never known for his defense. Defense is actually is weak point and reason why he is in the G-League. Orlando also did not draft many PGs. Cole is now 6th man and Black still a rookie, the only other PG was Elfrid Payton 10 years ago! You forgot to mention Jalen Suggs improvement from beyond the arc and guys like Bitadze, Fultz or Moe Wagner who contribute to the success!

Thing is Johnathan Isaac is actually an essential part of the current team. Best defender on the team. He's just less noticed due to the injury history but he's one of the most important not named Paolo or Franz

There is most definitely a lot of work that needs to be done for the Magic especially on the offensive position but this year is definitely a turning point for the Culture of the Club and the way they play the Game! I disagree with your opinion JI because his contributions defensively have made a phenomenal impact nevertheless I respect your opinion! Amazing Content and look forward to seeing more!
We had two runs. The McGrady, Grant Hill era was meant to be McGrady and Tim Duncan. It actually got closer than most know, but Duncan ultimately chose to stay in another small market, but one with a championship already. He became an all time great.
Grant Hill was a fallback, and his body just couldn't recover. We helped launch the 2001-2008 Pistons run though. Ben Wallace was a Magic player sent in that sign and trade for Hill.
As far as this team, Wagner and Banchero look like catalysts. You can say a lot about the Magic. But we usually drill the pivk when we get Number One. Shaq, Dwight, and Paulo. Here's hoping.

Moe Wagner is a secret weapon
I wouldn't call Isaac a miss or "rough". He played well at first with two-way star seemingly right ahead, until injuries derailed everything. But usually if a player shows legit production for a couple of seasons before injuries hit, they aren't called a draft "miss". He seems like he's making a legit comeback, with that two-way ability on full display. He leads the team in defensive plus/minus and blocks per minute (2nd in blocks per game). He's also second behind Wagner in PER. The team just switched his $17.4 million per year contract from partially guaranteed to fully guaranteed, so they clearly believe his recovery is legit.
Timberwolves, Thunder, Magic, Pacers. A lot of surprising teams this year!
