Around the time you were lowering this, I was un-lowering a squarebody suburban. I had a heck of a time finding stock spindles, ended up using some from a G20 van. Love the videos!!!
Someone might have mentioned this in the comments already but drilling a new hole in the spring perch, moving the axle back about an inch and a half, would have centered the rear wheels in the fender opening and kept the drive line modification off the table. :)
I was scared watching you remove the rear springs...I thought they were under pressure and it would spring out...scary...a...oh and Autolite (Ford) plugs in a Chebby!? Champions...I think. If we don't learn anything else from you it's stick-to-it-tiveness and patience. Congrats on the 1 Million views on the tractor!!!
That's pretty typical for AutoZone to sell you Autolites for a Chevy and to have a missing plug wire lol cool video though and I've never heard of that trick you did to shorten the driveshaft! I'm buying my old 79 squarebody GMC back this weekend and doing pretty much everything you did in this video 💪🏼
To avoid the tire ride cut out a couple inches further back from where its and then add a 1/4" tall of steel to the piece you cut out and weld it back in, you CAN just heat it up and hammer it up out of the way but that looks like hell, by adding metal it just looks cleaner and looks like something the factory might have done.
Don't take this as criticism I enjoy y'all's video content but that is totally the wrong way to measure how much to cut gm coil springs LoL 😂, the proper way is to take them both out then measure with a measurement tape and start from where the coil starts running it around till you get to the number of inches you want to drop it- 1.5 at the coil is 3 inches at the body. That's definitely a creative way to lower the rear and the fix the driveshaft problem never seen it done before that way I was impressed, I wish I knew how to weld lol 😂 Great video other than that keep it up brotha the truck looks great 👍
My granddad had a 79 Silverado with a 305, out of 8 Cylinders 5 of them had anti fowlers on the plugs....lol motor was weak as crap and smoked like a train!!! Great memories though!
Good job! I am getting ready to do something like this to a 77. I don't want to spend a lot of money on new modified aftermarket parts as recommended by another channel who is sponsored by those parts companies. There is nothing wrong with replacing everything with new modified parts designed for this purpose, 'if' one has the 'much' extra money to buy those parts but money can be a hurdle at times.... It's nice to know it can be done this way. How does the truck ride now? I know you learned a lot by doing this one, this way. If you had it to do over again would you go the same route, or would you recommend going the high dollar new parts way ? I trust your judgement and experience which you have gained 'by doing'! How does the truck ride? I hope you can find time to answer my questions which will be 'very' helpful. PS How is Ralphie's Camaro coming along? Yall are a blessed family. Keep up the good work and God Bless!! Phillip Hall
Im shocked you didnt cut those front bump stops🤣 but might as well buy new tubluars at that point. Im riding 295/50/15s i cut 2 coils. Im 5.5/6 easily . Looks sick but I need tubulars. I love my tiny rake.. mine doesnt rub at all.
I use to run mine with no springs at all on the bumpstops and flip the rear .1/4 steel bent on both ends get welded under the saddle with the hole drilled putting the pin toward the front or you will blow the tailshafts off

@@robquest6499 I just did a 6-8 drop w a small rake outback ..and yea I recommend a notch if goin that low just incase u fill.up the back w something heavy . I like crown suspension if u on a budget or belltech springs/mcgaughys spindles
If you buy a flip kit you dont have to weld new perches, or shorten the drive shaft, and the added bonus of new u bolts, instead of reusing worn out factory u bolts from the 80's
It's actually becoming pretty popular that the orginal perches(top side of axle) are snapping off due to the pressure from the bottom side and destroying axles.. The fix is to weld the new perches in place to reduce pressure on top side.
Can someone please tell me what is so wonderful about dropping the height of vehicle suspension, when it is set in the factory @ the optimal height for the car/van/pick-up?? They look awful and perform even worse!!! My opinion I know, but yo don't find anything like that in the UK. See you soon (if I can work out the name-changes..... 🤓

A long time ago an old friend had an s10 blazer we put a vortec 350 in a lowered it LOW. Had to c notch it. It would wheel hop terribly..... I had 2 nice xjs at the time. One day we were sitting having a drink. And I had an idea. I told him to go to the local offroad shop and get a used set of xj springs. We used the main leaf from the blazer and then used the rest of the xj leafs and was able to rid of the lowering blocks. It never even rode that good stock and it launched great with the xj leaf pack.
