Was at a scrapyard and did see interior that I needed...... I was in shorts and it was freezing out side.... got it all even if it was a little snow and almost closing time.... the guy at the counter was impressed and gave me a good price for the show...... we all liked it.
I’ve been following Navlac57 and the fasterproms channel. They have been doing impressive things with these engines. This going to be sweet. I’ve seen Calvin mention you can cut a decent portion of that valve cover off. In order to gain more clearance. I’m sure you’ve seen some of the support this engine is now gaining. With turbo manifolds and intakes becoming available. Cool build. Awesome progress. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.
I mean they’re not super complicated. But if you want to throw real power at it. Nivlac 57 is the gateway to every niche part you are gonna want to change out. From oil pan to valve cover, he’ll know what will fail at what point or hiccup.
@@joshuaolson5265 that’s what I mean about niche parts. But these are pretty stable up too 600’ish Hp stock with good fueling and some boost. So it really depends on the end goal. But Nivlac has the platform down and understands it pretty well. At least as far as race use goes. The math alone he has would make life easier on a full build, lol 😂!!!
So nice to see these engines gain traction in the performance world. I worked in auto wrecking in my early 20s and wondered what the power potential was with these. Thats back when truck 5.3 complete engines were $350 and the 6.0 was around $800 used so nobody really looked at them.
Reminds me of the teenager days. Pick and Pull junkyards always had parts for my 73 Capri, 2.0 L , so many Ford parts fit. I swapped out the rack in pinion steering several times and the built motor ate up them weak sauce C'4 transmissions. When we had no money, my buddies would climb the fence for parts. Good memories.
I came across this video by chance and im stuck now. Ive never even heard of anyone using this motor for anything other than gathering groceries or catching their husband cheating. You got me LOCKED IN on this build. Im excited to see how this comes together in the end. Beautiful things ahead!
This is sick! The supercharged 3.5 in my 98 Isuzu trooper blew up a few months ago… no idea these bolted to an ar5… that’s what my trooper has in it. Now I’m getting ideas!
This is awesome to come across. For the past 2 weeks I was just thinking about doing this build to my s13 instead of another sr20. I've been trying to plan out everything and already located my donor trailblazer.
Man, you absolutely read my freaking mind. I want to do my build slightly differently, but I ended up with a s13 that was just too cheap to pass up. Still sitting on my trailer from the day I got it like 6 months ago. My first car was a trailblazer, and a few years ago when I learned of the small community of hot rodders utilizing these insane engines I immediately thought about doing a swap in an s chassis. Seems like an absolute no-brainer, since the supporting parts for the swap are still relatively underground and cheap. I'll probably start on mine next year after I finish my current swap! Thanks for putting out a video!
Man I'm sick on a Sunday morning and this video put me in such a good mood, from the bluegrass music to the jokes about the trans tunnel massaging. Glad I found your channel!
That bluegrass gave me old hazards boys memories😂 I want to see this succeed so bad! For me the Is is the 2025 swap of the year. Hope this engine works out for drifting.
As someone who loves a unique or obscure car build this is gonna be such a sick swap. It’s coming together so well already and love the “drift homies” vibe you guys give off. Keep up the great work! 🤙🏻
Just so you know you can find AR5 transmission on manual pontiac solstices and saturn skys. They only come 2wd but they have a longer shifter. May or may not be beneficial. They are also just a slightly updated, better shifting version of the r154 from supras. Which is partly what contributed to being able to fit one in a mk3 supra. Just thought some of the info might help.
There is also a company that offers a sequential shifter specifically for the sky/solstice manual transmissions if that is something you would be interested in.
Funny story on the China turbo, and how you ended up getting it for free. Had a similar situation occur years ago on a turbo I ordered where it eventually came, but not before I filled for a late-no delivery refund and then it seemingly showed up. Edit* for the transmissions, Nivlac57 has a Bible of info on these engines, along with info on transmission bell housing adapter plates to make it easier to bolt up anything that would otherwise bolt up to a SB Chevy.
Cool nice start to a transplant and good content too - look forward to the next reveal on how to bring new life to your hobby car - God speed with your progress.
If the straight 6 poses too many issues, there are 4 and 5 cylinder versions available that might be worth looking into. Both come with rear sump oil pans. My dream build right now is an S13 with the 2900 4 cylinder. It should be able to make 500hp on the stock bottom end with about 50hp of wiggle room before the rods snap. The head bolts on the 4 and 5 are also not known to break off like they are in the 6, and new GM head bolts should hold that power level just fine. Most of the aftermarket support mods for the 4200 will also work with the 4 and 5 cylinder motors. The weight distribution wouldn’t change much also, and if it did you could relocate the battery or swap it for a lithium one. One thing is the balance shafts in them create vibrations over 7000rpm.
Rad as hell! My daily driver is a 2.9L GMC Canyon with that AR-5 manual trans... Something important to note is that these transmissions come from factory with bargain-basement shitty gear oil so it's very common for the synchro rings to take damage just from normal use (lots of info about this online). Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way and now my trans has trouble getting into several of the gears, especially when it's cold outside. It's tolerable but definitely a nuisance. Best practice is to change the oil for Amsoil gear oil as soon as possible if the trans is still working properly. Hope that helps someone out there, lol.
Its so insane the ameri-Barra was right under are noses the whole time all that 2jz worship kept us blind lol. Id love to see one swapped into a wrx hatch using the blazer awd system with a m90 supercharger

Oooooh, nice. That same powertrain combo (well, no turbo) is something I want to build something that looks like a '38 Alfa 8C 2900A roadster around. Although those used a transaxle, so I'm also half contemplating going full ham and attempting to adapt on a C5 Corvette torque tube and 6 speed. Because I hate myself. 🤣
Hell yeah! I was just telling a buddy of mine that I wanna build something with the 4200. It's motivation to see someone build so much with such a small "shop" to work out of. What's the background on the sharks teeth tattoo? Prior A10 guy? Thanks for the video and looking forward to more.

on god lmao. i pulled a SC300 rear sump and a full black interior in absolute torrential downpour in denver once. was NOT fun.
