  • For the last 2 years I've been searching desperately for a cure for my depression.
A lot of the time I've been looking at external sources to help me.
I've finally started to realise that as much as things like the Alpha-Stim machine and medications can help, I need to radically alter the way think about and see myself to make the changes I really need to.

I have just recently just startied using it. I got it free(thankfully) through the VA. I have PTSD (anxiety/depression/insomina and very painful chronic headaches and pain where my neck and base of my head meets. I am currently using acupuncture and Alpha sStim. It is barely going on week 3 for me. pain is significantly less, but anxiety has really decreased. Its not a "cure" so far my anxiety and pain seems to come back after a few days. My depression is back and forth, its not everyday, one week (or a few days ) ill be happy and then the next week ( or a few days) I will barely get out of bed to make food for myself because I can't make myself get up. Anyways.. it hasn't really helped yet too much for depression for me. it has significantly helped with my anxiety and pain though. They say to use it consistently for 3/4 weeks. I haven't done that yet. I use it about once every 2-3 days. Side effects are really simple. If I use it too high I can get a headache (only happened once and I learned my limit you can def feel it) Sometimes it makes me sleepy (kinda normal when your brain gets a workout) and it can dehydrate you. It is extremely worth is. IF you can work through a medical provider (Veterans just have to ask for it and they will have to go through a 3 meditations for 1 hour each visit and if it works for you , right now the VA will fully pay for it.) Hope this helps someone.

I'm trying to get one through the VA for anxiety and panic attacks. Due to covid appointments are hard to get in person.

I just purchased it, waiting for it to arrive in the mail, maybe about 5 more days. I'm excited to try it. I've had anxiety since I was 4 yrs old, and now I'm 42. Social anxiety, overactive anxiety, generalized anxiety.
I find it interesting that you've had so many different types of therapies. I wish I could have come across those things myself. I took medication for over 10 yrs, and stopped taking it after trying different types and dosages. The meds made me gain weight, sleep all the time, and they made me feel like committing suicide.
I've not taken meds for more than 15 yrs,o, and instead exercising regularly, meditating, eat healthy. But I need something more. I really really hope this helps me

Thank you for sharing ... this is something I had to do as well and so difficult to shift those thoughts that have been imbedded for years. You're so correct in how one needs to shift what is happening internally. As I mentioned in a remark to someone's comment below, NLP is incredibly helpful. You may also want to look in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) - it offers so many tools on changing thought patterns. I started listening to Audiobooks on NLP/DBT so I could really understand the fundamentals/process. Currently, I am working with both an NLP/CBT therapist and it has been a lifesaver and has really helped me to change my thought process. Although, I will admit it has been no easy task - but I do see positive changes and grateful for finding these resources. Thank you so much for sharing your journey it takes a STRONG person to be able to share these personal challenges and to let people know they are not alone in this journey. Keep sharing and Best of luck to you!

Have you considered the possibility that the device you bought was on EBay because it's broken? Please, consider contacting Alpha-Stim and see if they're willing to run diagnostics and maintenance on it? These devices have a 5 year warranty. There's nothing to lose, but maybe a bit of money for shipping.

Going to try to give a little constructive criticism here. The video didn't need to be as long as it was for what the title is. Could have edited a out a bit. Just would have liked to see a bit more focus on the machine and your opinion on that. Went on a bit of a tangent with depression treatments in general. But, good video overall.
One thing, how often are you exercising? That's just as effective as medication and therapy, combined! It's a huge chunk I think people leave out and can be a major key to recovery. We all know the first couple weeks going back to the gym suck. But, once you get passed that it honestly becomes fun. At least for most people it does. I've suffered with it just as much as anyone, with some ptsd on top from being a paratrooper for six years. Exercise has been a tremendous help and grounding force for me. Whenever I notice I don't want to go to the gym, or straight up don't go a few times. I know I need to stop and figure out what the hell the problem is or I'll just go deeper into it.

I knew this thing was bullshit...TH-cam is flooded with positive reviews of Alpha Stim but those videos are all from... you guessed it: Alpha Stim.

Please do yourself a favor and search a video on TH-cam, use search words like "Ajahn Brahm depression". It's a speech he gave in June 25th 2010.
Also, try to look for the book "Why Buddhism is True".
I'm always been skeptic and atheist for most of my adult life, so I'm not preaching religion in here. Buddhism is not a religion to me, it's a really efficient way to cope with your thoughts and anxieties.
I've been on a lot of medicine for anxiety and depression for a long time (not anymore), so I know what you're talking about.
I wish you best of luck
