- The brakes on our 1991 Firebird work, but the fluid is pretty nasty and the components are old so it is about time to go through and rebuild the calipers, along with the master cylinder and give the entire system a good flush. In this episode we'll do a dirt-cheap rebuild of the two front disc brake calipers with no fancy tools. We'll also check up on the rear drum brakes and make sure everything looks good.
Date of filming: October 31st, 2018
Song List (Order of First Appearance):
0:01 Sinking Ship - Silent Partner
1:16 Sunday Drive - Silent Partner
5:15 Rural Stride - Josh Kirsch/Media Right Productions

take two: placing a thin board ... This made me laugh. Great editing
That was epic.
Literally pissed myself 🤣
^ it's little things like this that make these videos so enjoyable
Funniest damn thing Ive seen all day, you sir earned a sub that was awesome.
Rare footage of brake clean actually being used to clean brakes.
I was gonna say that
@@daerriangibbons1019 Same
@@cheapestf1598 Cleaning everything else except brakes!
I really enjoy your sense of humor (and your videos)! Great writing and delivery!
You don't need brakes, all they do is slow you down.
Reverse makes good brakes
He he he......Awesome comment!!!!
But it can save you..
true never thought about that
Yeah fuck breaks
if you paint the callipers it will look good and it will be protected...
it makes it 50% more racecar
If it's red you'll get more horsepower
This literally the only video I’ve found that showed that style of dust seal install, thank you
Really like the way these are narrated, always enjoyable watch.
really loving this channel I love that the work is budget yet not hack and that you really show all of the little details that other build channels leave out yet also keep a higher standard on video and audio quality
Removes Banjo Bolt
Banjo music plays
Genius
Your voice is so similar to "Casually Explained". Casually Explained: Rebuilding a Firebird. Similar humor too. Love watching these videos despite not owning a firebird that needs fixing.
>Love watching these videos despite not owning a firebird that needs fixing.
me too. I don't even have a car, sold my 99 toyota 5 years ago, but still remember this "garage days" feeling
This context of repairing a car is teaching me so much at a base level. And the humor always helps. Thanks for your content!
I'm not a car person but this series has captivated me lol
I love the Impromptu humor that is part and parcel with this channel.
It's so nice to see someone repairing brake's than just slapping new complete parts on a car. Yes it takes more time but you get to see and understand how a brake system works. When it comes to brake's whether it's one or six piston system I always strip and repair calipers so I know the brakes are 100%. Keep up the good work.
I like that he did that too, but I think he's completely nuts for doing it. haha!
Pontiac’s always hold a place in my heart as I was brought up on Smokey and the Bandit one day I would like to own one keep up the good work
It was a sad day when Pontiac was shut down. ;(
I really appreciate the way you have brought this car back to life it's really coming along nicely no short cut just doing it right
loving the build great video.back in the day we always used a( c clap ) to press the piston.have a great day god bless!!!!
I love how you've added your humor to these videos. Very funny.
These episodes make me want to get another project car, so damn tempting!
I just came across these videos and have watched every firebird episode in two days. I usualy perfer concise short videos like Scotty Kilmer's but these are great! I love the attention to detail and getting everything done right without shortcuts and the video editing. Also, I just finished a brake job on my 92 firbird last Saturday. I would have probably struggled less if this video had come out earlier lol
I'm glad you convinced mister two by four, to work with you on another video. Nothing like seeing partners in crime in action.
Pro-Tip @4:00... Push the hard line up through the hose bracket, after you remove the clip, to get the rubber hose unlocked, then unthread the hose off of the line. On rusty garbage like we've got, it will save you a lot of broken hard lines from seized flare nuts. The point is NOT to even attempt to turn the flare nut and just unscrew the hose from it.
It's coming along beautifully.
Hey bud....I really love all your videos.......the way you present the whole episode laced with humor is outstanding. I always enjoy them very much. Can't wait to see the next one. !!
Very informative video! I've watched a couple caliper rebuild videos by now to get a better idea of what to expect on my foxbody soon, and I can confidently say yours has shown me the most detailed, clear, and straight to the point way how. Your camera skills are extraordinary as well, keep it up! I just subscribed.
I dont understand anything about cars but i love your sense of humor:)))
I just got home from a long day at work; this video made my night! Keep these videos coming!!!
That was so educational! Thank you for all the work you do to put these videos out to us!
I fucking love these episodes god has blessed us all today with this video. Thank your for all the great quality content keep up the great work.
Just binged all 7 episodes. I love it! Just have to wait now.
Great information and I'm now motivated to redo the brakes on our new used 1993 Subaru Sambar. Thank you for sharing.
I have no idea what you're saying, but I still watch it.
I really enjoy your Firebird build videos, thank you for making these, fantastic job!
that firebird won the lottery ! keep these vids coming !
I'm excited to see the replacement of the lines! Thank you!
Wish I’d have seen your video before I tried to rebuild my ‘70 Pontiac calipers!
Nice explanation of the refurbishment...… plus, you were VERY lucky that the caliper pistons were not too corroded to bring back in to service. The few times I have done this job it is always the main problem.
5:33 “ it would be silly to let this fluid go to waste”.. 😂😂 omg 😂😂
I love how it took you one try to remove the piston safely and it didn’t fly everywhere 😂
Love these Firebird videos
Dude I love how u explain so much and show each step u do some ppl just say change this then jump to it being changed keep the videos coming a little faster enjoy ur content keep it up
I love these video bro. You're Inspiring me to restore my 92 celica
Get after it, Sam! Can't let all of us have the all the fun!
Scotty Kilmer approves of this comment
@@williamsinger4124 Scitty's car has never needed more than oil changes and Armorall sprayed on the suspension...
@@TheBrokenLife true, but, you know that he'd probably friggin sponsor someone to restore an early to mid 90s Celica
@@williamsinger4124 I would assume the opposite: he would restore his if someone sponsored _him_
I have been doing for the new video on this series thank you for blessing us all.
The Right Stuff makes OE style brake lines, you'll never have to bend and flare your own lines ever again!! They even come in stainless, with steel loop just like stock!
This channel is underrated
5:15... I see what you did there.. Very funny.
Was just wondering a few hours ago when the next bird video was coming out.
Another great one, thank you keep it up, looking for a bird soon, I dont even care what year, you've taught and reminded me of a few things. Keep it up, love the vids
Nice!! You should totally paint the calipers :(
Banjo bolts must always be accompanied by banjo music.
These imo, are the best looking year of bird..
Hot coffee and a new video..perfect
Another great episode..
Good job! Awesome attention to details!
Omg brake fluid on the plant!! You monster 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sarcasm level Chandler Bing! I loved it! Can't wait for the next Ep.!! Cheers from Buenos Aires!
I been waiting for the next vid, thanks ,and brakes are for those don’t want to come 1st,lol
I think I bought your Blazer...
I low key keep checking back every day to see if you posted a video XP
great job..like the narrative process you use..and i imagine editing this must be a long, arduous process...
I’ve found that walnut shell scouring pads (available at most supermarkets or online) are very good for situations like 9:28 because they are not abrasive enough to scratch metal but will remove residue from seals and gaskets, at the cost of having to scrub longer than using a regular scotchbrite pad
Work great on your skin, too! LuLz
When installing the pistons back into the caliper housing, you can use a caliper tool to push them back in
Your stuff is professional bruh 👍👍
I would of painted it before reassembly. Great vid - thanks.
thank you for saving the classics car looks great
you should powder coat the brake calipers! sweet video btw love watching this series of restoration.
Good informational video that will help alot of beginners. One thing I did notice you say in error is the front master cylinder reservoir serves the front brakes. That is wrong in this case. The rear reservoir serves the front brakes. You will notice its bigger because it's the most important etc.
Yep, good call! I was rushing to edit this together and messed that one up. I'll mention it in the next episode when rebuilding the master. Was thinking about older GM stuff, my 78 Firebird is front-front, rear-rear.
I really enjoy these videos.
I don’t even like cars. But this is making me like cars
*mentions banjo bolts*
*Banjo music starts*
Good one, sir 👍
Love your dedication
Just started all of these episodes today and epi 7 came out td 🤩🤩
I have an 82' Cummins swapped f150. I rebuilt the wheel cylinders and that was just a waste of time. Went to the parts store and got 2 new cylinders for less than 20 bucks and they've been pretty good even after all these years. I just flush the brakes once a year to keep fresh fluid in the system.
Can't wait for the next episode I love this series very informative!!
Your videos are very informative and very funny. Hug from Brazil
Great video again. Keep up the good work.
I love the breaks for humor
i love your 1991 project
bro you actually have the best humor ever haha keep it up dude
Great video lots of good tips. Keep up the great work
Aaaaah sweet a firebird video finally👍
When it comes to brakes. NEVER GO CHEAP!!!!
I love this series and channel, man!
YAS NEW FIREBIRD EPISODE!
I almost died of laughter when the piston shot out! 😂
I just seen this, On The Master cylinder at 17:37 time stamp, the front is used to control the rear breaks. and the rear of the master cylinder is to control the front breaks. even though it's been years later.
Top quality video. Keep up the great work, love your channel.
good job man you are very talented 🙏🏼
Damn it I can’t wait for the next video!!
Great narration.
Had to subscribe for the commentary alone. 🤣
Nice video. Doing similar work to a 91 trans am!
Great Video man!
Use a light grade sand paper to deglaze the rear brakes
love all the videos. i loved the blazer videos as well!
Spent a few bucks on this old timer ,hope you give a good clean and panel work , that dent in the rear , and bolts hanging out of he front clip
best channel on youtube
Please start painting the rusty parts like the brake callipers.
Damn you teasing me with a future video!
Wooooo finally a new episode :D
