How to set up a chain to properly tether a dog

  • When using a chain to tether a dog, it is important to set up it up properly so the dog has access to a large area, and as seen in the photo link, the dog is still able to move very easily as long as you don't use a chain that is too heavy. If you have a high energy dog, and it is not active on the chain spot, you have a chain that is too large. Please do not make that mistake. I explain how to properly set up a chain tether for your dog to an anchor point for this reason. Doing this properly is important for your dog’s safety and also for the safety of others.
    NOTE: I forgot to mention in the video that if you use CONCRETE in the hole to anchor the chain (instead of the truck axle), you will need to dig a hole about 10" wide and 2 feet deep.
    I recommend 1/4" high tensile strength for dogs under 60#, 5/16" high tensile strength for dogs between 60-100#, or even larger if well maintained, and 3/8" high tensile strength for dogs over 100#.

    My dogs are inside at night and most of the day but there is a few hours in the day where I just need a break from the dogs and they need to go outside. Both of them are pitbulls one is a lot bigger than the other and he probably weighs 85.90 lbs., and I've got to get a chain that he can't we're out. And I really appreciate you posting this video because I have not ever tried a lead but I'm about to so thanks.

    I use ziplines(steel cables) running front to back on my property, at around 4 ft high, and straps connecting to the collar. When at home, during the day, I leave a 12 ft center free path for ppl to come knock... At night or when I leave I set them up with the full length straps... They love it. The straps are used so they won't mess up the grass and vegetation around. And that my friend is the best fence system you will ever have. Hahahah I have 4 German shepherds

    • @APBT-Bandog
      @APBT-Bandog  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the best thing to do is to simply crank the nut far enough down over the threads that it locks itself...and you cannot do that by hand. You have to use good wrench or pliers and some type of pry device to hold the link while you crank on it.

    Should we put oil or grease on the swivel to help from wearing down that thick axle grease also I take electrical tape then duct tape and wrap the ring you tighten helps keep that thing from turn back off ,I like the way you did the part to connect to the dogs collar going to do this when we do civil/agitation work,and I have used thicker chains well I am in the business of cleaning out buildings, houses and I come across many objects(chains,hooks,cables, etc)OK keep up the good breeding, thanks for the info,I have been working on a line of banddoggie too,but didn't have the room or people to help with a real breeding program most of them our of dogs these days move on,but I doing what can do at my level, and I breed for me,my dogs our an offspin of Bandogs,but I will be putting the game terrier(pit)to working type mastiff(presa maybe,neomast maybe,Corso maybe,dogo maybe,) back in my lines your lines our nice good work
