    Loving You (1957) - during Party, a song played in the first part of the movie, and for a few songs afterword, until he is gifted with a Gibson Natural finish J200.
    King Creole (1958) - when he plays Lover Doll in the 5 and 10 cent store
    G.I. Blues (1960)
    Viva Las Vegas (1964) - The Lady Loves Me, duet with Ann-Margaret, when he falls in the pool.
    There may be more, but those are the scenes I recall by memory.

    Of all the movies he did, Elvis said that his favorite was King Creole. Having seen it myself, I can certainly see why - it’s a terrific movie! I’ve also got the original soundtrack for G.I. Blues on vinyl in my catalogue. (I don’t call it a collection; collecting is for stamps, not music.) It belonged to my late grandfather, who I think was about the same age as The King of Rock and Roll himself.

    @davehopping7212 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Presley could play some cowboy chords, and also some very basic R&B. You can hear his playing on "Blue Moon"(an early B-side/album cut), and the AM radio version of "Love Me Tender". In the '68 comeback special he does "Baby What You Want Me to Do" and cops a few Jimmy Reed licks on Scotty Moore's big jazz box, a Super 400, I think. Singing was his strong point, so he learned enough guitar to get by when he was starting out, but as soon as he got famous, his people could and did hire the very best accompanists and Elvis only played guitar when he felt like it.
    He's the reason I've been doing gigs for sixty-plus years. He was on Jackie Gleason or Red Skelton's TV show before Ed Sullivan and I saw the power of live rock and roll. I knew in an instant what I wanted to do.

    As a big Elvis fan...especially his movies...I'm very skeptical about this guitar. The guitars that featured in his movies had ZERO finishes on them. This was to stop them reflecting under the studio lights. I can obviously see this one is finished in Nitrocellulose. That is a big flag for me. Could it off been applied after? Sure, but why wouldn't you keep it original? Also, the colour seems off. Elvis's J45's in the movies seemed to have a much lighter coloured burst, this is quite a dark burst. Sure it's stamped by Paramount but is it THE one or, one of the ones in the ACTUAL movies...questionable.

      What movie? The only time his guitar didn't have strings was when he was doing a movie screen test.

    “Elvis” was way better than “ehh.”I didn’t like it at first but after re-viewing it, I changed my opinion. Because Baz Luhrman’s production is so over the top (that’s what he does) it’s easy to lose track of how good the acting and story telling is. Austin Butler did a great Elvis. And Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker? Comer on, man. Serious acting chops and incredible makeup. The movie is as much about Colonel Parker as it is about The King Of Rock And Roll. May be watch it again with a more open mind.

      PS ~ Elvis DID play guitar and what he played, he played well. He had “feel.” This J-45 may have indeed been a prop, but he could play some. Not saying he was a polished or excellent guitar player, but he got around the fretboard ok. He didn’t pretend to be a lead guitar player. That’s why he had Scotty Moore and James Burton. These comments on his playing just might … possibly … come with a wee bit of jealousy, ya think?

    Hell, just buy it and let me record a few tunes on it.

    Elvis was a performer and an amazing singer, not a guitarist. Guitar came second for him. Kind of like Kurt Cobain.
    Still both legends.

    I think the guitar is the star...making Elvis the prop. Both should never be diminished as viable...but in this matter...the incident that Elvis held the guitar is inconsequential. Elvis ads very little value.

      Watch the sit down show from the '68 special, Elvis in a black leather motorcycle outfit playing the fuck out of the guitar. He was a rhythm player, not a flashy lead player, but he was solid. He was, however, notorious for playing too hard and the guitars were never too happy with him afterward :p

    No one needs to "get the rights" to show the logos & trademarks that companies have stamped onto their products in film unless those items are being featured or characterized in a way that could wrongfully afflict the reputation of the brand, such as alcohol brands being shown alone, with no other brands in their category, in the context of evil characters getting drunk.
    The reason the giant gold Gibson word was blacked out on that guitar is because it is SO LARGE that it upstages the plot & characters, it distracts the audience into reading irrelevant text instead of following the plot, and the metallic paint reflects light around the stage and perhaps directly into the camera's lens, an absolute no-no on a film set.
