      I haved plumped for a modest ev and would not normally bother with high end reviews but Jack's presentation draws me in. It was a huge bonus to see Ricky as well

      @@haknys If you push the limits of the car too far, yes. A Tesla carbon fiber ceramic brake kit upgrade is eventually supposed to be available for $20K for those Plaids equipped with the Arachnid wheels. There are other aftermarket kits that are far cheaper but that will probably void the warranty.

      I'm riding for a year now, passing miles long traffic jams in ten minutes and never take more than a minute to find parking.
      About the roof and window thing... to each their own. I don't like being trapped in a box, I prefer the openness of riding. Even in rain and heat.

    I'm with Ricky on this one. Not that I'll ever buy one, but that wouldn't be because of a few panel gaps and a less-than-Mercedes interior. It's a technological marvel and a worthwhile HALO car. And it will sell loads.

      Merc interiors are the squeaky creaky hard plastics where u touch overrated in the industry they have been terrible for 25 years they hace got better in the latest gens but still aren’t the best

    As someone who's owned all models from the 3, X and S at one point - I can say that their cars are truly fantastic and nothing short of engineering marvels. I think anyone can agree on that. When it comes to Tesla though, the problem isn't with the cars themselves being up to scratch and instead it's with their after-sales customer service and buyer experience. I'd highly recommend anyone considering a Tesla to fully research and understand what they're truly going to be getting themselves into before getting their wallet out.
    As an example, my Model 3 Performance blew through THREE motors in 9,000 miles total, and it was nothing short of a huge headache to get Tesla to actually repair things ultimately spanning several months. During my year of ownership for that model, I'd maybe driven it for a couple of months total and the rest of the time it was simply off the road due to either lack of service appointments, or awaiting parts to be shipped from California to the UK.
    For the icing on the cake, I was initially offered a small Mercedes A class hatchback as a replacement because they very rarely have stock of electric courtesy vehicles, then ultimately that became unavailable and they (reluctantly) threw me into a Range Rover Velar after initially telling me they couldn't arrange a vehicle at all. I'm a petrolhead at heart and a huge fan of Range Rover so I was happy with this, but I can see how to some it just looks awful when they're preaching about emissions and yet throw their customers into ICE vehicles. I admit that this is a minor point, but does highlight the inefficiencies of Tesla Service and one that you may also consider if you're heading into Tesla with the environmental impact as a factor.
    Anyway, one thing lead to another and that whole experience ultimately forced me into starting a legal battle with Tesla to reject the vehicle after it's 3rd motor had blown - and after a LOT of back and forth, including dialog with senior management, they eventually they gave in and admitted manufacturer fault which ultimately allowed me to reject the vehicle back to my finance company. I'd say the wide consensus with Tesla UK is that they're going to work against you at every opportunity until you peruse legal action to really get something done, and there are many many more stories similar to mine. UK Owners groups are littered with them daily.
    With all that said, would I buy another Tesla? Yes. Absolutely. I've got a Plaid on order which is due to arrive early next year.
    The wide sentiment for a lot of owners (myself included) is that they absolutely love the cars, but hate the brand customer experience. If you're asking customers to pay prices that are equivalent, or higher, than more 'established' rivals such as the likes of Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, etc, then you really should work on getting the customer experience at an equivalent level too... at the moment, I've had far far better experiences dealing with Ford and KIA dealerships than with Tesla.

      The UK Model 3 comes from China, so why were they shipping motors from California ? Did you buy a used import model?

      Could not have said it better myself. We had M3P but traded that for Audi e-tron GT (already had e-tron 55) and while it's not as quick on straight line nor has it the same level infotainment as Tesla, as a CAR Audi is much better.

    The crazy thing about this new Model S/X generation from Tesla is that the base versions, not plaid's, they are faster than any Mercedes AMG. Can't wrap my mind around how fast these things are. Awesome they are finally coming to Europe!

      The model 3 especially is a very capable car dynamically. Low COG and good chassis, as well as of course immediate power.

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but the plaid is still limited to 282 km/h at the moment while the base is around 250 eish. The 350 run was a hacked plaid if I recall correctly. I still can't understand why didn't they just have a two speed transmission to avoid excessive rpm at high speed (as result, an oil pump is needed to cool down the bearings and were forced to duct tape the motor together so that it would not exposed due to centrifugal forces, they call it carbon fiber tube of course 🤦)

      yoke is not the problem, but I think left indicator should be in the left a right in the right side of the yoke accessible to finger. That would be far better

      @@michalsalaj that doesn’t work either because you only need to have to indicate when exiting a roundabout and you are in trouble with either implementation. These functions aren’t without reason on a stalk. That really should mean that these models are denied homologisation for the EU!

    Making this groundbreaking piece of engineering just makes sense. Yes, it costs more, but that is not the point. This is just another way prove it can compete or beat ICE vehicles.
    That being said, I have owned a Leaf 2.0, and now we have a Model Y LR (From Shanghai) and they both make sense for their use. The Leaf is a cheap little car that for many families does the job, and just runs, nearly cost free. The model Y makes sense for a midsize family with a dog, and carries a lot with all the space. It also goes twice the distance on one charge, and the supercharger network makes it superb when you need to charge on the go (example on a holiday)

      I use my Model Y for my company. Its a tool, it fits its purpose, i transport material and tools to my customers, safe, secure, comfortable, cheap - no service, no maintenance, working day in day out, cheap to operate. It just works. It smells good or at least neutral, no more fuel stinking! Next year when the warranty comes to its end i will switch to the next - very possibly Model Y from Grünheide.

      @@jrodelite1515 I was comparing it to a standard Model S, due to you paying more, for something someone considers gimmicky. But the fact that it breaks new ground, and that those who want it and can afford it, buys it, furthers the incentive to make development in other areas too. I will never own a Plaid (I think) as it does not suit my needs. But I love it for what it is, and what it represents going forward.

    Was planning to get one but once started driving my Performance Y model I don’t think there is enough Xanax in the world to calm my nerves after a drive. I will stick to the Y and wait for my Cybertruck.

    I opted for the 2022 MSLR rather than the Plaid MS and have zero regrets. My car is wickedly fast enough for me, and I do not need the extra second for 0-60. I love my car and this was my third MS starting with the 2012 MS85. No gimmicks for me!

    I've gotten used to the yoke, but in no way is it better than a wheel. It's too wide, for one thing, like the wheel in an old car. Buttons instead of stalks is criminally negligent ergonomics, though. The way they worked was particularly stupid before a very welcome software update a few months into production.

      @@alastairward2774 No, it goes much further than the point where your arms collide, which is too far already for comfort. You have to develop a special hand-over-hand technique, which you must also do in reverse - you cannot "unsteer" by letting the yoke slip through your hands.

      @@alastairward2774 Nope, it's 2.3 turns lock to lock (828° total) like the Titanic. I drove one for a week and drove me nuts. It's a completely pointless gimmick. And don't get me started on the capacitive turn signlal buttons and the microscopic capacitive horn button that's not the airbag cover. The yoke should be used in design schools as an example of nightmare ergonomics and functionality and what not to do.

      There should be a yoke steering course for drivers so that the yoke steering wheel doesn't get the poor review it doesn't deserve! The best way to fully appreciate the yoke steering wheel is to:
      (1) Start by mentally telling yourself that the yoke steering wheel is far better than the traditional round steering wheel for handling (not only for the 10x improvement in visibility and enjoyment of clearly seeing the driver's instrument cluster) because "accepting change" is the best way for approaching "change". It primes for better adaptation to the new situation.
      (2) Train yourself to NOT hold the yoke steering wheel like a round steering wheel. I hold it in the way it was designed:
      (a) Place one or both hands ON TOP of the horizontal part (at the bottom) of the yoke steering wheel for the "long and straighter stretches" of roads or at times when you anticipate there is less "sharp cornering" (which is >95% of my driving time). Use your hand(s) to slightly jiggle the yoke steering wheels to adjust to slight curvatures in the road. A good gauge of "sharp cornering" is when you can feel some sideways pressure when turning or cornering. This is taken into consideration with the speed AND the curvature of the road.
      (b) Hold the yoke steering wheel with "one hand" and then "one finger" (when getting more advanced) at the top right or top left corner, at a small protrusion, of the yolk steering wheel, for those "sharper" turns. Technique (b) is more advanced and will become more predominant with time.
      (c) Place the OTHER hand, UNDER the ALTERNATIVE side of the horizontal part of the yoke steering wheel to initially LIFT UP then continue the turning whenever you feel that the "one hand" or "one finger" technique is not for you yet.
      Tip 1: Combine techniques (a), (b) and (c) as required.
      Tip 2: The curvature of the road must be taken into consideration with the car's speed when deciding which technique/combination of techniques to use. After a while, this required calculation becomes autonomous and takes very little to no effort. As you feel relaxed about your steering technique you will feel the road's conditions and enjoy your driving experience. This is quite a similar experience to sailing where you will feel the thrust of the wind, the pounding of the waves, and the constant lift and drops by the waves, against the torque on the boat's steering wheel.
      Tip 3: Once techniques (b) and/or (c) are done routinely, at slower speeds and for parking, you will realise point (1) ... that there's not much difficulty with the yoke, in fact, it's even easier and more maneuverable than the round steering wheel.

    The newly refreshed Refresh Model S (LR and Plaid) have got new headlights with Matrix LED and taillights with a bigger charge flap to accommodate CCS for the European market’s, a Plaid Badge and swivelling screen.

      My LR accelerates fast enough to make me a little woozy. A Plaid is not indicated for a 70-year-old with a heart condition.

      Fantastic piece of engineering if you can excuse the usual crappy build quality but the waste of excellence on yet another driveway glamour model is irritating. The world is waiting for a clean solution to everyday motoring needs not vanity products for the wealthy.
      And yes I understand as a business you are correct why wouldn't they follow the standard commercial model but it spits in the face of the reason behind the journey.

      @@logicalChimp call me cynical but i dont think Mr Musks major motivation is saving the planet. Compare and contrast with the Sono Sion whos inventors have brought to market a properly useful vehicle that in terms of a total solution to your lifes energy requirements is streets ahead of any Tesla. 11kw vehicle to load is enough to power my modest home in periods when the sun isnt shining. And i could recharge overnight if I required on a cheap tariff. Teslas billions are only going to drive that figure to trillions. Sure there might be a trickle down but until we can supply enough bits and batteries to sate current demand no automaker has any interest in the average Joe. I really could give a damn about any EV until it fits my budget, new or used.

    wraping the motor in carbon does not increase the speed, it prevents an interferance pattern that reduces power as the motor speed increases, wraping in carbon was impossable until Tesla creatated a machine that could do it. Stil can't afford one, saving for a Sinclare C5, And yes I'd have the long range (Model S, not C5)

    At 10:41 there's an error. It's written "Top Speed 200 mph / 280 kms". The conversion should be "Top Speed 200 mph / 320 km/h"
    "Kms" doesn't even exists, and if you're meaning 280 kilometers per second, It would mean about 1.08 milion kilometers per hour, or 0.1% of the speed of light. At that speed you could reach the planet Mars from Earth in less than a minute, and the planet Jupiter in less than 10 minutes.

      As an engineer I find it maddening how Fully Charged gets basic units consistently wrong -- particularly when they're so good at virtually everything else. (A bit like Tesla getting the indicator controls wrong on what's otherwise an engineering masterpiece, I suppose...)

    Engineered 44 years in big auto world wide. Ridden sports bikes for 40 years. Driven all kinds of performance cars and I always knew if some one could pack enough grunt in a battery then you would get the performance of a sports bike in the form of a car for the running cost of a moped. In 2014 the Model S P85 was an engineers dream, I tested it, I bought it, 125,000 UK miles later Im still running it. I was right and more, a charging network beyond any expectation, a company now so big and so stable there is concentration on service support. My Tesla P85 still looks and drives like new, owes me nothing and yet is still worth 40% of cost new after near 10 years! And you ask me what car i would have next? Pannels gaps, a bit of trim pale into insignificance when oil prices are through the roof, I can power my transport from the solar on my house, Ive been driving a stunning looking car for 10 years and helping the plannet.......Plaid on order.
    I think what we all have to remember is if for once Tesla didnt exceed pretty much every expectation with each and every significant company drive then the nay sayers would be out in droves "Tesla lost its lead, the competion is comming" and thats just not going to be allowed to happen. "Vorsprung durch Technik" was Germany..........now USA and its not going back any time soon, that must hurt!

      @@one_step_sideways you are precisely correct and is one reason why I run a Zero SRF electric motorbike. Jams are pretty bad and a bike avoids all that, so when Im on the bike the car charges and when Im in the car I charge the bike. But keep the classic S is a thought Ive had as I also have a Roadster on order from the press day (both cars paid for by Tesla shares bought in 2014 not like I could afford these otherwise ) but the Roadster is even more irreverent and my head says you chuck the mountain bikes in the back of your P85 you tow with it and it smells of the dog oh and Supercharging is free for life so costs nothing to run distances! Just keep running the classic S (its even white with the carbon spolier, red calipers and black wheels and cream/black interior)....I might never sell it there is something to having one of the first Teslas and going over 250,000 miles. BTW you can chuck a 29er mountain bike (front wheel off) in the back of a Roadster so Tesla dont make it an easy decision lets face it a nice decision to have.

      Tesla is behind in charging times compared to 800 volt Kia Ioniq5 and Hyundai EV6GT, they do the same range and same performance, have level 3 FSD for 10k less than level 2 FSD Model Y and 3. The Mercedes EQS has further range than the Plaid, the EQE more range than the Model 3 and Y. The Nio Et7 has 1000km range (629 miles).
      The new Audi e-tron SUV are coming an have nearly 700km range.
      VW IDR has all the EV car laptimes records. Audi has the autonomous car rallye record. Rimac Nevera and Aspark Owl are quicker than the Plaid and the upcoming roadster.

    I've driven the X, 3, and now the model Y. My only gripe is the translucent roof. I absolutely hate it. I want a flexible solar panel on the roof to block the GD sun. Even with the AC blowing full speed (which is annoying to listen to) I can still feel the sun beating down on me. I wont be purchasing another Tesla until there is an option for a solid roof or some aftermarket option to install a solar panel up there.

      I'm in Perth Australia yes the Roof is an issue with heat, yes the AC in the model 3 is asthmatic at best, it is probably my no. 1 gripe with the car. But you don't need solar panels, they will only cover phantom drain at best, plenty of cheap options for shades does the trick, plus a dark tint on the sides and rear.

      I hear you - driving during the day here in Southern California would toast me even with the AC on full. But I found a solution: I got all my windows tinted (40%) with that IR blocking film from 3M, and it makes a world of difference! It also means I can actually see out of the roof during the day, which was never possible before. There's not that much heat coming through the roof - it's a fraction of what used to come in through the windshield and side windows.

    Amazing stuff, but to be honest, for that price, there are plenty of goodies to choose from in that particular market, other than owning the pinnacle of, well, what? If you want the pinnacle of electric SUV's this isn't it, if you want the pinnacle of user friendly and human-centric design, this definitely isn't it. I don't understand the blind fallacy banging on about buttonless cars. I need buttons, physical interaction with my car for the stuff I use constantly while on the road; heater, airco, radio... For the same reason I don't choose the latest Apple iPhone iterations anymore. And the one thing the S had over the 3 and the rest of the Tesla range, was the sunroof that could be opened. The plaid seems to have the fixed sunroof like the 3? That alone would be the reason for me to skip this car. (financing obviously being the first).
    And I agree with you, built quality should be immaculate at this price tag.
    I do understand the raving about the quality of the underpinnings of this car. The Tesla fanboys and the early adopters finance Elon's thirst for improvement so thanks to people who fall for this stuff, we have the electric eclectic we see in the car market today! I have not a shadow of a doubt that without Tesla, there would be no Kona, no ID3, no Niro or anything else worth talking about other than the relentless steady hand of Toyota in this electric and hybrid space.
    If there would be a 3rd party add on to integrate in a model S with buttons and wheels to adjust my driving habitat, the regular dual motor S would be my dream car I guess. With a swap of the most recent battery technology to replace the older already market shifting batteries then built by Tesla.
    Love the company, but I am too much of a human first and a techie later to understand and accept the absence of a physical interface in what basically is a bullet on wheels. Let alone the steering wheel on this one, which will for sure leave the knuckle draggers with too much money literally in a ditch or worse. Let's hope I'm wrong.

      I'm definitely in the same boat - Tesla fan boys love to tell me that you don't need buttons, just talk to the car instead. I don't want to talk to my car - I just want a few more buttons 😭. There's a nice space right below the touch screen on the old Model S I have, which is conveniently directly in front of the debug port that gives access to the CAN bus. I am intending to make a little panel down there with physical buttons for air conditioning, seat heaters and to toggle headlights, once I find the time to reverse-engineer the protocol.

    Part of the efficiency is the paved road, the rougher it is the less efficient. It can have the best tires and the lightest car but the road is still going to be another factor.

    not a huge Tesla fan but I bought the Tesla Plaid last year as it was easily available (taycan wanted a year to ship vs I could pick up a plaid in a week). its a good roadtrip car, handling, braking, and interior aren't the best but its good enough.
    its the perfect roadtrip car and great practicality. lots of room and autopilot makes it amazing to take on trips.

    The long range version is the much better buy. There's so many Plaid owners on the forums complaining about bad vibrations between 38 - 50 mph. Tesla have known about this since the release of the Plaid, and they STILL don't have a fix for it. It took them so long to fix the shudder issues on the older Model S that I'd be skeptical of them fixing this any time soon. I actually had the shudder issue on my 2021 LR Model S, which had to have new half shafts.

    Can Tesla PLEASE offer wheel options for the performance 3 and Y like it does for the Plaid S and X?
    I would probably go ahead and buy a performance 3 except you have to buy the 21s from Tesla and I hate big wheels with little tire tread. Not to mention it kills range. I know you can buy aftermarket but I'd rather just have the Tesla 18s.

    Nice review.
    I call the left pedal an emergency brake, because you rarely use it. The pedal on the right I call the adrenaline release, because every time I floor it my body literally releases adrenaline. As a passenger, it’s just nauseating. It just never stops pulling.
    I love the yoke and never gave it a second thought. If I’m cranking the steering it’s always a a very slow speed and I just use my palm on a lower corner without thinking and it works fine, just like I do with a steering wheel. It’s the first car I’ve ever owned that doesn’t compromise gauge cluster visibility and seating position.
    It’s just an insanely amazing beast that has tons of room. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat, even though they cost almost $20k more than when we bought ours last year.

    Costs DO add up: more engines mean less $ for brakes or interior. Big Power should also be paired with Powerful Brakes, however. This vehicle makes a stunning point about what electric power can offer. It may not try to make a point about how 'balanced' a vehicle package Tesla cares to produce.

      Brakes are far less used in an EV, due to regen braking. You only really use them for hard stops, which means there will only be degraded braking on a track. They sell an upgraded brake pack for that use

    It is quick, impressively quick. That being said, 99% of the drivers will only use roughly 30% of all that power 99% of the time. Just like with petrol/diesel cars. You just don't redline your engine all the time.

      "roughly 30%" is 300 HP. I have a Skoda Enyaq with 180HP in my fleet and thats plenty enough to drive 130 on our Autobahn. Thats our speed limit. I would never need and possibly never be able to drive with 1020 HP. I would have to drive to the race track.

    I love what Rick said in the end, this is benchmark car but a lot of technology inside will eventuelly end up in regular family car. Think of it like F1 where eventually the technology developed for F1 cars often end up in your average day to day car.

    Thank you, I enjoyed your joint video. IMO, the Tesla Model S Plaid makes a statement about just how remarkable an EV can actually be. Many car makers have a flagship model that makes a statement about the brand’s superiority in some particular area be that performance, engineering excellence, reliability, safety or even opulence. If the Model S continues in the longer term, I would expect the manufacturing quality will improve to the point where it is best in class. For me, this product defers the need for the Tesla Roadster. Based on my understanding of Tesla’s mission of getting off fossil fuels, introducing the Cyber Truck and the Tesla Semi are far more urgent.

    The steering wheel? Suggest you put a SW knob on it. spins easily. Has to be offset from the center at the bottom, but I mount closer to my spinning hand anyway.

    Why didn't Tesla think to produce self-adjusting geared steering ratios for the yoke? That is, when travelling at parking lot speed the turn ratio of the yoke would be higher than when travelling at freeway speeds? Surely this isn't too difficult with drive-by-wire. The driver's hands could then remain in only one position on the yoke.

      They definitely will eventually. The problem is that you lose steering feel and people won't like it.

      Unless it changes in the last few months. US cars must have a direct connection to the steering box. Not legal like camera for mirrors.

    I cant help but love it that more and more tech, sciency, visionary yt channels get together and join up doing content. Its just great! Nice to see more and more people sharing similiar visions, ideas, factual based realities and possibilities. And yes i know, its just a plaid video, but thanks for it! :) Do more together, invite other channels and reach more folks to spread the message about a better more sustainable future in which cats and dogs had the time to evolve another 10mio years and talk to us when they are hungry, or something(and not just plaid videos;)!     The brake comments always crack me up from 60-0mph this 4700# sedan with over 1000hp stops within 6' of a c8 corvette at 104'
    From 70mph it stops better than many ice sedan segment competitors, unless they have carbon ceramic brakes optioned.
    Could they be better? Oh heck yes they could and imo should be. But to say it doesn't stop is asinine. 👍🏻

      The brake comments come from another review, comparing them to a Toyota Prius. The conclusion came from track driving with pro drivers, not a Tesla spec sheet. They also complained about the brake feel, and how you actually have to use the brakes to get them to work well.
      I had the Model S luda. Heavy car in the turns, mediocre brakes and zero feedback from the steering wheel. But acceleration was mindblowing. No hate, but I left the brand lacking for more.

      It's more about cooling. Repated stopping quickly overheats them. So you cannot push it too much. I'm glad it stops pretty quickly when the brakes are cool. All that weight and speed could do a lot of damage to peds and other road users.

      @@andrewnorris5415 explain how they survived laps around the nurburgring then please? Or how Randy pobst out piloted a BMW m5 competition pack and ctsv in a stock plaid around willow springs last year(video is right on here of it)?
      He won his class in a modified plaid at pikes peak in 2021 and finished in the top 15 overall there this year.
      They do fade but under heavy use so does every other stock tire, stock fluid, stock rubber brake line stock pad equipped high hp heavy modern sedan. Just 1 full out panic stop from 120+mph can cook just about any cars stock brakes. It's only a big deal because it's a tesla(that gotta hate elon factor in full effect) imo and this is the very first ever production car that can out accelerate it's own brakes. 🤔
      You don't see anyone complaining on youtube about how the Ford lightning which is Ford's highest hp quickest accelerating factory truck.
      Also being the one that takes the longest to stop from 60mph out of their lineup.🙂

      @@4literv6 The negative comments from some reviewers was about the actual brake feel, how you had to use the brakes and fading. A pro driver might get it fast around a track with that sick acceleration, does not mean the brakes are perfect or optimal for that car. Tesla is well known for cutting corners regarding cost and quality.
      This car is much faster than a M5, so its not apples to apples comparing time and then concluding anything about the brakes.
      One of the weak points of my Model S was the brakes. I do not care that the car is fast in a pro drivers hands, I want a driving machine. Steering feel, road feedback, brake feel etc. Porsche, BMW etc. are famous for it, Tesla is not. After 3 years ownership, I would much rather have a 1 sec slower fun driving machine.
      Just my experience of course. ☺️

    Thanks for this good and balanced video on a well-publicised Tesla. There should be a yoke steering course for drivers so that the yoke steering wheel doesn't get the poor review it doesn't deserve!
    The best way to fully appreciate the yoke steering wheel is to:
    (1) Start by mentally telling yourself that the yoke steering wheel is far better than the traditional round steering wheel for handling (not only for the 10x improvement in visibility and enjoyment of clearly seeing the driver's instrument cluster) because "accepting change" is the best way for approaching "change". It primes for better adaptation to the new situation.
    (2) Train yourself to NOT hold the yoke steering wheel like a round steering wheel. I hold it in the way it was designed:
    (a) Place one or both hands ON TOP of the horizontal part (at the bottom) of the yoke steering wheel for the "long and straighter stretches" of roads or at times when you anticipate there is less "sharp cornering" (which is >95% of my driving time). Use your hand(s) to slightly jiggle the yoke steering wheels to adjust to slight curvatures in the road. A good gauge of "sharp cornering" is when you can feel some sideways pressure when turning or cornering. This is taken into consideration with the speed AND the curvature of the road.
    (b) Hold the yoke steering wheel with "one hand" and then "one finger" (when getting more advanced) at the top right or top left corner, at a small protrusion, of the yolk steering wheel, for those "sharper" turns. Technique (b) is more advanced and will become more predominant with time.
    (c) Place the OTHER hand, UNDER the ALTERNATIVE side of the horizontal part of the yoke steering wheel to initially LIFT UP then continue the turning whenever you feel that the "one hand" or "one finger" technique is not for you yet.
    Tip 1: Combine techniques (a), (b) and (c) as required.
    Tip 2: The curvature of the road must be taken into consideration with the car's speed when deciding which technique/combination of techniques to use. After a while, this required calculation becomes autonomous and takes very little to no effort. As you feel relaxed about your steering technique you will feel the road's conditions and enjoy your driving experience. This is quite a similar experience to sailing where you will feel the thrust of the wind, the pounding of the waves, and the constant lift and drops by the waves, against the torque on the boat's steering wheel.
    Tip 3: Once techniques (b) and/or (c) are done routinely, at slower speeds and for parking, you will realise point (1) ... that there's not much difficulty with the yoke, in fact, it's even easier and more maneuverable than the round steering wheel.

    Jack is getting caught up in old legacy detailing. Ricky has nailed it. This is what electric cars are "easily" capable of, and these are early days, after 100+ years of the ICE vehicle. The Model S Plaid shows how easily superior the BEV is to ICE. And anyone who drives one knows it. Super plush interiors? Unimportant. The real luxury in this GT is all the stuff that you can't do in any other car.

      I actually fully agree with Jack. He is annoyed by minor details that are fully Tesla's fault and of dubious usefulness at best. Imagine Plaid+, updated braking system, normal wheel and couple of buttons instead of haptics. You have a car everyone can appreciate, but still a Tesla and it would blow EVERYTHING away.
      I am a Tesla fanboy, but I'm not persuaded by the Plaid.

      @@AndrejGobec A Tesla carbon fiber ceramic brake kit upgrade is eventually supposed to be available for $20K for those Plaids equipped with the Arachnid wheels. Still not available according to the Tesla website. Anyway that's probably all that's needed to add the "+" to Plaid. I really want to get one of those kits, but seems pricey to me. There are much cheaper aftermarket kits but that would most likely void the warranty.

      Big wheels look good, but they're not worth it, expensive tires, lower efficiency, prone to damage. Now that everything has big wheels, they're not special anymore.

    After 2 months. Yoke is not an issue at all once you get used to it, actually I prefer to a round steering wheel even in the parking lot now. And all the mentioned good stuff is definitely good. Still not a fan of the turn signal button thing, nor the horn button. I still have to think about using the turn signal and there is just no way I'll get the horn to work on a panic blast. The build quality is short of what you might expect at $140k. It's fine, not great. But the driving experience is just hands down awe inspiring. It is flat and tight on the corners. The acceleration is mind blowing. And as mentioned, the most spectacular thing is the "already going kind of fast and punch it acceleration". Going from 60 to 80 will give your passengers whiplash. Passing someone on a 2 lane road is just crazy easy.

    8:26 you repeat this like a mantra when it comes to Tesla, with no proof! That "gap" you point out is not a gap, it's a movable piece of the console so you can slide the cup holders out of the way. It's intentional! Just stop Jack...you will never, ever give up on the old "build quality" trope, which is just not true.

      Agreed. Also bored of this now. I watch a lot of RSEV channel too, he spends a huge chunk of his time driving around the country in them and has much more positive things to say. I recall him saying the majority of the build issues are a thing of the past now esp with Shanghai cars etc....

    Cars that cost $40-50k more have a nicer interior? Well duh.

      Mercedes AMG GT 4 door : 10 seconds faster than the Plaid on the Nurburgring race track, 5 times better interior. Also 40k Audi A3 and Mercedes A class have way better interior than 140k Plaid.

      I’ve tried the EQS and the Taycan. Chose the Model 3 Performance. That competes quite happily with those two unless you like loads of buttons.

      @@THEREALZENFORCE actually I can afford any car I want. I have a Plaid on order, but being in the UK with right hand drive, I don't expect it any time soon. I decided to change my Model S P100D in 2020 as it was 3 years old then, and I thought I would have an interim car until the Plaid arrived. I tried the Taycan. I didn't like the cluttered cabin, and the reversing camera was crap. I also felt that being in a Porsche, and with the fake engine sounds, I would drive it like a teenager and put my licence at risk. I had also tried the Model 3, and loved the spartan cabin. Performance wise on the road, there was little to choose. I went for the 3. As you say, why spend 60k more on something you didn't like as much.
      I recently also tried the EQS. Similar to the Porsche in dials etc. Nice ride. In that it beats the Model 3, but performance wise, about the same. I am currently using the Model 3 in motorsport (hillclimbs and sprints). It is competitive against all the ICE stuff, despite being factory standard. I'll be keeping it as my competition/track day car after the Plaid arrives. Haven't seen any Taycans or EQS in competition yet though...

    It wasn't completely clear about top speed. Yes, the Plaid is capable of just over 200mph (320km not 280 as mentioned!) BUT... all Plaids have a limiter on it that only allows top speed of 163 or 165ish ??? mph. The requirements to support the car going 200mph (320) include the special package of different ceramic brakes, different tyres and moulding adjustment to exterior of car. The package (as far as I know) has not yet been made available to the general public. That was going to be the Plaid plus version. Most Tesla enthusiasts know this. As Bugatti have said, getting up to 200mph is "easy" but designing a car to go over 200mph requires extensive, very expensive investment in advanced cooling, braking, aerodynamics etc.
    Apparently the Roadster will have these incorporated so really will be the ultimate F. U. to ice cars.

      The Roadster will still be way behind in top speed, Bugatti, Koenigsegg and others are doing close to 300 mph nowadays. The 250mph mark has been beaten for nearly 2 decades. And ICE sports car obilterate the Plaid and the Roadster in handling on race track laptimes. The Roadster will not come close to the laptimes of the Porsche GT2RS and will be light years behind the Porsche 919 Evo and Porsche 963. Also the 992 Porsche Turbo S obliterated the Tesla Pikes Peak time for production cars, see carfection video.

      I see it more as the guy coming from corporate auto media vs the guy coming from independent media. The truth is somewhere in the middle perhaps.
      Folks do care about fit and finish, folks care about technology and performance. Where you stand on priorities will depend on factors such as age and tech savvy.
      Buy a million dollar hypercar or buy a responsible upscale family sedan? Well, Plaid packages both in one uncompromising product, showing older ICE buyers how EVs can do it better.

    I have an Model S P90D. It's a car that demands you make a lot of compromises, and in turn gives you what no other car can. It's ridiculously powerful, scary fast in a straight line, ghost like quiet ride, amazingly practical tech inside...amazing stuff. But it does feel as if the QC guys were asleep...and the QA guys we never hired. OK, the interior is still solid with no squeak or rattles (something that can't be said for my client's 2020 MB S class), but I have had repeating problems with driver's door handle, leather (?) cracking, inaccurate range remaining estimates, increasingly heavy steering etc etc...
    Overall, though...I am a convert. They will hopefully address the quality issues with time, but I do acknowledge that the inherent simplicity of the car compared to an equivalent performing ICE car has the potential to create amazingly reliable cars. Tesla's body stamping innovation will do wonders for body rigidity via parts reduction, and their technical innovations in batteries and motors are clear signs they want to lead. I just hope that desire to win includes producing cars that are as bullet proof as they are innovative (as crazy as that may sound!).
