    People buy Porsches for various reasons. Some people buy Porsches for prestige, some buy Porsches for their speed, some buy Porsches for their looks, but if you’re looking for a true, seat of your pants, sports car driving experience, I believe the 997.2 is the ultimate Porsche.
    There’s no question that Porsche improves their cars with each model year, but with the 991 Porsche changed the 911 forever, and for the pure race car driving experience, not for the better. I say that for two obvious reasons: first, the 991 abandoned hydraulic steering for electric steering resulting in an insulated road feel through the steering wheel. Likewise, the 991 is longer, wider and heavier than the 997, again adding additional separation between the driver and the road. Additionally, the 997 is the last “pure” Porsche, as the 991 was developed under the umbrella of Volkswagon. So, if a true race car driving experience is your main reason for buying a Porsche, I am firmly in the camp that believes the 997 generation is the way to go.
    I have owned two 997’s. I had a 2007 997.1 Carrera 4 which I absolutely loved. I tracked that car and had a ball watching Corvettes in my run group spin out as they tried to keep up with me through the turns. I recently purchased a 2009 997.2 Carrera 4S Cabriolet and I love the newer engine and the upgraded center dash. Driving these cars is an absolute driving pleasure, sure to bring a wide smile to your face. I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with either 997 version (IMS bearing concerns aside).
    As far as the future value is concerned, for those of us who prefer a naturally aspirated engine, these cars should definitely appreciate as the 991.2 started Porsche’s journey on the turbo-only road.
    So that’s my humble 2 cents on the subject. I hope this is helpful to some potential buyers.

      I agree completely. I have owned two 997.2 4S models (a 2009 and a 2010), both with manual transmission; one coupe, one cabriolet, both with sport chrono package. I have also owned a 991.2 4S with PDK (2017). IMO the 997.2 with manual transmission is the high point of the 911 as a sports car. The feedback from the hydraulic steering and stiffer ride is sportscar heaven. It corners like on rails. And the sound of the engine is right. The acceleration from the naturally aspirated 3.8 is totally linear; zero flat spots, hesitations, or sudden bursts. The 997.2 4S is a great car, perhaps even a supercar, but the twin turbos sound like a vacuum cleaner, not a Porsche. The PDK is the best automatic transmission I have ever driven, but I like 997.2 manual better. The 991.2 has a little fancier touch screen, entertainment center, etc. However, the 997.2's touchscreen does everything I want, is smaller, and leaves room for a nice slot at the bottom in which to put your phone. It also has a nice port in the console for connecting an i-Pod; yes I said an i-Pod, in my case with 972 songs randomly shuffled! The car is narrower, lighter, and shorter; fits in my garage better. The driving experience is just better; I am more connected to the steering. You need to have two hands on the wheel at all times. The interior materials in the 991.2 are better and the spoiler is better. You cannot go wrong with a 911, but the 997.2 with manual transmission is the high point in my opinion. And the 4S is the best compromise between performance and cost. I like the 991.2 better than the 992, for several minor, non-performance reasons. The 992 PDK replaced the shifter that looked like a shifter with something that looks like a Braun electric shaver. It looks like you must handle it with three fingers with your pinky out, like when enjoying high tea. It replaced the nice, concealed cup holders (used for many years in 911s) with a cup-holder similar to that used in a 1985 Chevrolet Astro minivan. It should be good for those that visit Buccees gas station/convenience stores in Texas. It will accept the large 32 oz. drinks sold there.

    • @olivier8751
      @olivier8751 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chrisginoc I'm over 150 000 miles, I had to change the suspensions, a water pump and a few metallic parts becoming too rusty during the past 8 years (and tires, of course!).
      For sure, the car is very reliable but each part is very expensive and I would not recommend such a car to someone who cannot afford it (I'm in Europe and changing my 4 suspensions cost me 8 000 euros (8 500 USD)).

    • @chrisginoc
      @chrisginoc 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@olivier8751 Yeah that's pretty crazy expensive. I have a 2023 MKV Supra 6MT and was considering going to a 997.2 maybe 2012 to just be more classy. I get too much attention and everyone wants to race me in my MKV and the Porsche would seem more classy and less attention seeking. The problem is long term cost of parts like you said. I found a used one locally with 49k miles for $69k USD. Waiting for prices to hopefully correct a little more.

    • @chrisginoc
      @chrisginoc 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@olivier8751 I get it. Not cheap to buy parts. I wanted to trade in my 2023 MKV Supra 6MT for a 2012 997.2, but it seems like it would be a strange move into that platform with the cost associated in parts or future repairs. I wanted to go for something classier because the MKV is fun, but not classy.

    Those are NOT xenon PLDS headlights. Those looked like the halogen standard headlights that came with the 997.1. As others have said you need to brush up on your Porsche knowledge.

    I dont believe that is a 2013 steering wheel. I have a 2012 Targa 4S 997 with same steering wheel. The 2013 911s became the 991 and the steering wheel is visually different.

    • @MH-ev3wr
      @MH-ev3wr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Porsche used the same wheel at the end of the 997.2 as what is used on the 991.1. So depending on the year of the 997.2 you could have 1 of 3 different wheels. The first is the same as the 997.1, the one here is the third, and there is one in between (my 997.2 has this wheel).

    Something I haven't heard mentioned, insurance for a 911 vs a Corvette is significantly less expensive, statistically Corvettes are in more accidents.
