  • Please visit twuphysics.org for videos and supplemental material by topic. These physics lesson videos include lectures, physics demonstrations, and problem-solving.
Ms. Twu's AP Physics B / AP Physics 1 and 2 lesson videos are designed for students who have never had physics before. These videos are also used for "flipped classroom" teaching at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
Her AP Physics C lesson videos are designed for students who are at least taking pre-calculus concurrently.

Hi, thank you very much for all these videos. I'm from Australia, but all your AP videos have immensely helped me in my studies. Keep up the good work. You deserve more viewers.

Your videos are tremendously helpful. They're honestly the only thing helping me get through the AP Physics course. My teacher is okay, but explains everything to fast and complicated. And you explain it concisely and easily. Great videos!

You cover such a detail in such a clear, precise and creative manner that I watch your videos even if I understand a concept, to add more clarity to them. Thank you! :)

I made one of these "motors" and it tickles me every time I make the screw/nail spin. ..... However ..... I noticed something unexpected. I found that I can make it spin WITHOUT TOUCHING the neodymium magnet at all. If the screw/nail is rocking a little bit back and forth like a conical pendulum, it will begin to spin and remain spinning as long as the screw/nail keeps moving back and forth. I suspect this is due to or somehow related to Faraday's Law that ANY change [ motion, frequency, amplitude ] in the B Field will induce current (emf => I ) .... but I am not sure that is a solid explanation. ....... Anyway thank you for the delightful video and the elegance of this "motor".

I think it may be inertia: the nail + magnet are spinning and will continue to spin for a while until they lose all their kinetic energy to friction and air resistance even after the current is cut off.
While they are swinging a little like a conical pendulum, the occasional contact between the wire and magnet provide current and therefore magnetic force to give the spinning nail + magnet occasional torque to pick their spinning back up.

+Parameswar Ghosal Perhaps taking a look at the first 4 magnetism lesson can help. You can find them at: sites.google.com/site/twuphysicslessons/home/magnetism
