    F14 Back Stories and History.
    The 2 seater Grumman F-14 Tomcat was the US Navy's air superiority fighter, tactical reconnaissance platform and its fleet defence interceptor . The F-14 replaced the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in 1974 and was replaced in 2006 by the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. It appears in all Top Gun video games including Top Gun: Guts and Glory, Top Gun: Combat Zones and Top Gun: Hard Lock.
    The aircraft first flew as far back as 1970 and deployed from Navy carriers in 1974 and was ultimately cancelled in 2006 with the advent of the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornet. The F-18 was faster, more maneuverable, and more high-tech than the Tomcat, and emerged as a new generation of carrier-launched fighters.
    The F-14s initially designed to counter Russian MIG fighters during the Vietnam War, and were then used against Iraqi planes by the Iranian Air Force during the Iran-Iraq war; they reportedly shot down at least 160 Iraqi aircraft while only 12 to 16 Tomcats were destroyed, according to a 2006 Air & Space Magazine report.
    The F-14s are still used by the Iranian Air Force, and some have raised a question as to whether they were retired prematurely by the U.S. Navy. This raises an interesting question regarding technical progress. While there is clearly value in human decision making faculties adding to air attack with two-seater planes using a Naval aviator to support the pilot, the advent of newer sensor technology may have supplanted the need for a second person in the plane.

    regarding the buzzing on mks servos: there is a programming device from mks (DSP-1), using this device you can adjust the deadband of the servos. This will clear the buzzing. MKS Servos are set to the lowest deadband value on the market (normaly wanted because they are very exact and fast), most of the "older" powerboxes (including the jeti) do not like that. Had the same problem on my powerbox mercury's which is in all my jets (around 12 systems). After reprogramming the 747HV servos to deadband 3ms, everything is fine. Got this information from powerbox systems including the programmer... the only downside, the DSP-1 is not really cheap...

      @@thelightersideofrc Jonathan. I am not a Great Writer so ask Questions if I leave you hanging. Could you use any of the Servo hardware they give you? In our F5J plane we have Bearing to hold the Servo arm better and could you use the Trays they give you? They have awesome ways to connect the flaps and So On. Last since you a Busy Man. In the New Shop have Wifely paint one Wall that looks like Sky with Some Clouds ☁ then build three brackets that you can hold your Jet ✈ ( like this Jet) maybe use the Landing Gear Doors Open . Maybe Acrylic glass Rods with Hooks so you Can Take a Photo of Each Jet 🛩 you Build. . I know you can make a clear Bracket that will not be in the Photo. Thanks Jonathan you are the Best. Peace. Very nice step by step walk through. Ill definitely be using this when I work through my functional wings. As I do not have the bell crank for the flaps Ill be interested to see how you work through it. I have been debating an external linkage on mine. Hopefully there is an alternative.

    Superb setup. First time I see slats on a jet, will they be as functional as on the full scale counterparts?

  • @waltbodaczewski695
    @waltbodaczewski695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It would seem that the flap gap should be equal for both inboard and outboard.

    • @waltbodaczewski695
      @waltbodaczewski695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry make that the slat gap measurement with the slat extended.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally yes but with the Slats running on Carbon sliders it would induce alot of binding in the system and load on the servo if we tried to get them even. This is why I did the first step of moving it out manually to see how it sits in it's "Happy State".

  • @philippebaudon
    @philippebaudon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's really very difficult for 3 servos with 3 differents ajustments for the same slat ! We can hear a small noise from one of 3 servos ?.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The slats use 2 servos. There will probably always be some buzz from these paired servos just because thee will always be some resistance in the system.
