- Once the hair is wrapped with perm rods and end papers, apply protective cream and cotton around the hairline, and wear gloves to start the process. This perm solution is made by mixing the thermalizer with the processing (perm) solution which produces heat in form of an exothermic reaction, but there permanent waving solutions in the market (beauty supply) that do not require mixing and are pre-maid and will work alone to process the perm, for example; the Superstar perm. This one is Zotos Feels so Lively perm wave package. Apply the perm solution on the rods. Protect the rods from dripping by using a cotton ball, if necessary. Change the cotton around the hairline if it gets soiled. Cover the perm rods with a plastic bag to use the body heat for processing. Wait for 20 minutes; follow the manufacturer's instructions for any other perm for processing time and safety precautions. Strand test for the curl development. Unwind the rod on the top and the bottom of the head and check for an s form. Remove the cotton from around the hairline and rinse the hair for 5 minutes with warm water. Towel blot the hair on the rods. Apply cotton around the hairline for the neutralizer. Apply the neutralizer and let it process for 5 minutes. Remove the cotton and start removing the perm rods. Apply more neutralizer and work it through the hair. Rinse the hair and style. For this perm, pink rods were used. The client asked for a roller set, because she perms her hair to hold the roller set and to keep it longer. You can tell the woman was thrilled when the perm was complete and felt like it was "supposed to". I loved her laugh and also her saying "you did a good job" at the very end. As hairdressers, we live for that!

Yes, but coloring before the perm is not recommended. It is better to color after the perm (not right after, though). Perm washes off the colored hair, and the amount depends on the hair condition.
i love the smell of the perm solution
Gray and white is good for tight curls for ringlets, do not use pink or blue rods. You can also use larger rods for extra long hair. The best way to determine the right size that would work for you is to wrap a test cure with gel, dry it and see if you like it. If you have time, you can even perm one strand , which does not take a lot of time by the way, and see if you like to size of the rod. I hope your curls come out the way you like them.

Yes, first the perm solution changes the pH from 4.5 to about 10 and then the neutralizer brings it back to about 5-6, or sometimes 7 depending on the hair porosity and the amount of damage. Both chemicals are applied when the rods are on, but some manufacturers ask to add some more neutralizer after the removing the perm rods.
Good question. Theoretically, perm requires a trim before and a trim after. But, if your client does not want to trim her hair, you can use two end papers to cover the uneven lengths.

Yes you can perm previously colored hair with any perm for colored hair; it states on the perm box that it's for dyed hair, and those perms are sold in beauty supplies or online.
Keratin works by coating the hair and making it straight, thermal straightening smooths the hair with heat.
This is exactly how my perm was executed!!

Because perms help thin hair look thicker, and they make grey hair more manageable, and some do it to make hair easier to roller set. The pixie cut helps hide wrinkles. Hope this answers your questions.

I have very long hair & I cant decide what size perm rods I should use to get tight curls/ringlets. What size would you recommend?
Both perm types will work if your hair condition is normal; just follow the manufacturer's directions, and be careful not to overprocess.
Some people use styling products, but the hair is better to be left alone after the perm for 48 hours. Some hair products will change the hair pH, and that might effect the curls.

I Permed a friend's hair it took all day, I didn't use any water , when I washed off the first solution I blow-dried it for a long time until dry then added the neutrileser and the perm didn't happen 😒 was still straight

Consider it going 40 percent shorter; if it is below your chest, it will go a little below your collar bone, but, it also depend on the diameter of your hair, if it is thick, it will be heavier, then it will weigh down a little more.

Exothermic means the heat is coming from inside. Endothermic means it is taking in heat from outside. It's not that intuitive

BeautyHealthTravel I've had an olaplex treatment after the perm and I do regular conditioning treatments. I've always used acid perms and it relaxes fairly quick. I'm a male with short hair so there's a lot of hair that gets re-permed. Was going to use a quantum firm options perm on white and purple so the curls are firm and will last longer.

I had a perm today, she combed it straight while wet, trimmed it, then barely dried it with a diffuser. I left with my hair wet, and now 10 hours later my curls are completely gone. Frizzy hair! But no curl.
Did the combing cause this?
No, something else could have been missed during the process. I hope you did not wash it during the first 2 day after getting perm; that would have really messed it up. If not, try to wet your hair and see if the curls are still there.
That is actually a good length, but, instead of pink perm rods, use gray or white color rods. They are all color coded.

Soft curl permanent is more advisable for african-american hair texture; it involves a chemical breakdown with Thio cream first from roots to the ends, then through the ends and smoothing with a comb, then the perm with ATG lotion (ammonium thioglycolate) over wrapped perm.

Thermal straightening has a temporary effect on the hair, keratin treatment stays longer on the hair: that's the different in my opinion.

The procedure calls for trimming the hair before the perm and after as well (that would be your answer to state board theory question) , but I prefer to roll the perm, do the whole process, then trim the hair to get rid of dead ends, especially if the hair is shorter: it is easier to roll without cutting it first to save some length.

My mom didn't want me to get a perm because that can happen, but that happens when you don't take care of it. Before my perm, my hair was SUPER frizzy and dry. I always struggled with frizzy hair and I hated it. I still decided to get a perm and started to really take good care of my hair, so it is really soft now and not as frizzy. I'm glad I decided to get a perm because I had the curls I wanted and it encouraged me to take care of my hair so that it will be more manageable. As for the split ends, sis, all it takes is a haircut and conditioner. I hope that your experience didn't ruin curly hair for forever.

If the hair is chemically straightened, the perm solution will damage the hair since it will chemically react with the relaxer.

Oh, sorry to hear that. Yes, the neutralizer has to sit on hair for at least 5 minutes to work.

60 perm rods, but it also will depend on the thickness of the hair and the size of the head.

You could get the perm, but with your hair, most likely they will be soft curls.

40-50 percent for your hair length; it also depends on the perm-rods that would be used to wrap your hair.
