    I bought CC3 right before CC4 and Iclone 8 came out. Now there is no discount to upgrade. There was right after I bought but I spent what I had at the time for CC3. I truly regret buying from them.

    • @AutumnRed
      @AutumnRed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Totally agree... that's how this company works, I bought CC3 and iClone 7 a while ago just to see that many normal features were hidden behind additional paywalls, then the update came and no discount, no matter how much money you've spent before in this company, my best advice is to keep the fingers away from them and invest that time and effort instead of wating money to find a technical wall later on when you need the knowledge you would have if you invested time and effort instead of buying your progress

    • @Animotions01
      @Animotions01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      To be accurate there IS a “discount” for owners of Iclone 7, but you still pay over $600 instead of the $900 USD for new buyers.
      I chose to stick with IC7 and use the free pipeline tool to send to Blender for rendering& VFX etc.
      I have spent about $300 USD on pro plugins that put my Blender on equal footing with Maya so investing another $600 with Reallusion makes no sense as I will always be exporting Characters to blender for final rendering anyway.

      to be honest I'd rather recommend you not investing the money this software costs but the time and effort you supposedly save with their software, I already made that mistake and now that I've used their software I can only see I'm lacking a lot of knowledge and lost several hundreds of bucks because I didn't want to invest time and effort.
      There aren't many good examples of what you can do with this software out there, because most people who use it end up making rather mediocre content, it's part of the deal when you don't want to invest the time to learn how to sculpt, rig and texturize your characters. The most interesting artists I've seen using this software often use just the base model and the best part of their works lies rather on additional content they've created outside of this program, like putting one of these characters in an Unreal Engine environment with Marvelous Designer clothes or particle hair to make some simulations. Maybe you can take a look at StyleMarshal and Martin Klekner.
      For not so advanced material you can take a look at rosuckmedia, all of them here on youtube.

I think the greatest difficulty is the fact that because it’s so expensive to buy into, there’s a limited amount of tutorials out there. ...and loose a lot of money while saving time and effort, because this company's practices are awful

    • @Bright12ful
      @Bright12ful 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you mean? Is it a bad company?

    • @AutumnRed
      @AutumnRed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Bright12ful yes, when it comes to customer care they are really awful. Before CC4 and iClone 8 you needed to pay for an extra software from the company to be able to export your characters and animations to external programs like blender or maya. A lot of people bought that software because it's crucial for most workflows since iClone is very limited when it comes to environment design or CC for creating clothes for example.
      That software was as expensive as CC 3 and iClone7 themselves. Now with the update to CC4 andiClone8 that software is no more needed because it's included in the new versions. This can sound like a positive thing, right? Well, it isn't for users who already paid a good amount of money for that software prior to the update because we never got an additional discount so we would be paying twice for the same feature. And that's not a single case, it happened also with other features the Reallusion sold as separate plugins like the Curve Editor as well.
      Also, they have been changing licensing in their content store a couple of times, first they had one single license, then they came with the great idea to divide that license in two types, one that allowed you to export that content to external software and one that did not. Guess what was the reason to do that? Yes, make the original license more expensive if you wanted to export content to external software. But then again, they decided to unify the license again with another change, the price would be more expensive for users who might have no interest in exporting their content.
      Another weird thing is that CC3 and iClone7 prices were somewhere between 99 and 199 USD depending on sales and campaigns, the update costs between 250 and 500 USD. I've never seen a company that sells an update for their software that costs between two to three times the price of the original full software before. Because an update means you pay for new features added to the same core piece of software you already paid for. With CC4 and iClone8 is no different, most features were included already in CC3 and iClone7, so why should loyal customers pay 2 to 3 times the money they already paid for the original software makes no sense. Reallusion justified the price because the new versions included those features I mentioned above, that were hidden behind additional software and plugins by the company, but as mentioned above too, people who already paid for those extra pieces of software and plugins never got a special offer or discount, Reallusion just did as this never happened.
      And if that's not enough, their software can be helpful but it still has some issues that haven't been targeted, like weird mesh behaviour in some common character poses like squats and such, where you will get very unnatural looking leg or arm shapes. If you're creating martial arts animations to name an example you will need to make a lot of of corrections with these. I think the software was worth with the prior versions and price, but not with the current price.
      And the company is not to be trusted, if they have done this now with a lot of loyal customers (a lot of them cmplained in the official forum btw) you can bet they will keep doing similar things in the future. I personally wouldn't recommend investing money in this company, I did and I regret it, should have started learning how to create my characters in Blender or Maya from the first day, would have saved me a lot of money and it's a better way to get real control over your characters as well as better results.
      Sorry for the long comment btw but there are so many examples of bad practices with this company that I couldn't explain it shorter to be accurate.

    • @Bright12ful
      @Bright12ful 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AutumnRed Thank you for telling me about them. I was about to buy there software not anymore. I have t revaluate my software company discission. Thank you if you have more on them keep going this was a great read!

    • @AutumnRed
      @AutumnRed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bright12ful glad you found my message useful. Of course not everything with this software is negative, it can indeed save you a lot of time and effort and I think the software price is not necessarily wrong for its value and what it can do, it is rather how the company has treated their most loyal customers and what this could mean in the future. Because if they've done this once they can surely do it again and ask for 1000 USD when iClone 9 and CC5 are released.
      I personally cannot say much positive about the company itself, but the software can be helpful depending on the situation. For me personally, it was worth with the old prices or a more reasonable update price considering I already paid for several pieces of extra software that are now part of CC4 and iClone 8 but weren't before and that I am not getting that many new features as to pay two to three times as much as I paid for the full software before.
      Also it depends a lot on the goals you have for your company or product. For me personally CC4 and iClone 8 still have some limitations that force me to use external software to make modifications to my characters or make them more unique, because CC characters have something to them, that you can kind of see and spot them in other contexts. If you want something more unique you will probably need to export these characters and use some sculpting and texturing tools on them like Zbrush, Blender, Substance Painter...
      If that's not so important and you characters are rather human looking with not that much personality, and nothing like monsters, vampyres, or people with very special facial features... you might be ok using Reallusion's products.
      Also some poses could force you to use external software to correct meshes, like let's say your product is a martial arts game that requires your characters to stretch their legs while kicking or do some squats because they're ninjas who run stealthy on the roofs of some castle. You will then see that the meshes don't look correct in many of those cases and this was an issue that wasn't targeted in CC4 or iClone 8 so it's still there.
      For me personally, I think I'll keep using CC3 for base meshes until I need how to properly create my own characters from scratch, and I will then modify the CC3 characters to match my needs until I learn or for secondary characters. For main characters I will definitely be using Blender or similar because my goal is to make very unique looking characters with also unique expressions to each of them.
      If you want to know more about loyal customers reactions to the new update prices I can recommend you visiting the official Reallusion forum and searching for a thread there called "Moved: iClone 8 Pricing/Upgrade Feedback", hope it helps you take the right decision for your company needs. Cheers :)
