"Hate is unacceptible", they wrote. Yet, their actions show hatred towards a man exercising the very freedom they claim they are promoting. Such irony.

ARTyrdom You're right. It's a great solution. And makes me thing of grey rock technique in dealing with narcs and toxic people. We don't react in the way they expect us to, we stay calm, and continue on without their approval or authority and they will stop due to our lack of attention to them.

Campus security was outside blocking the front doors, along with a couple of officers (at some point). Why the police didn't do anything when people started banging on the side windows, I'm not entirely sure about, maybe they didn't even know it was happening, considering the mob out front. Or they probably didn't want to get targeted by the media for supporting "hate speech" and wimped out.

Others are watching - and many need inspiration, example, encouragement and hands-on real help. When I'm in the fight with another disabled and their family, I forget about my limitations because I'm too damned focused on what's at the top of that mountain. A pleasure to go to a source where honor, duty, integrity, guts, and ingenuity still mean something.

This is so intense. I felt like I was watching a horror or suspense movie. Or 1984. The quiet, pensive, attentive audience sitting peacefully in the pews of this beautiful old building (church?) while the wisdom of JBP echoes through the rafters. Then suddenly, like drums in the deep, a knocking and banging slowly builds and builds and yet no one budges inside. Their determined stares fixed on the sound of reason in the room. Their yearning for truth not wavered by the possible doom outside. Shadows fill the stained glass windows and blurred figures move into view and eclipse the beauty of the ancient glass panes, as the hammering increases. The similarities of the protesters to “barbarians at the gate” or the “subdue the free thinkers” as in 1984, Equilibrium, or that Mac computer ad, or even metaphor of mindless zombies banging on the door is filled with irony as they shout “lock them in, burn it down.” This is a lecture that should be shown in schools to educate future generations. Indescribably important and metaphorical. Amazing job everyone inside. Clean your room. Speak the Truth. Slay the Dragon. Save your Father. Bring home the Treasure. ❤️

Well said. The building is Grant Hall - named after Principle George Monro Grant (A preacher and political advocate for Canadian unity in the latter half of the 19th century). The building is where Queen's has its convocation - and some exams. During WW1 it was a military hospital. It's a historic building, and it's a shame the stained glass window was broken.

When I started watching Jordan Peterson over 2 years ago I knew he was thought provoking, and wise, but never thought I'd consider him a goddamn CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER until I seen this video right here. I've heard many talk about what's happening on campus, even seen some videos. But this, how does this not look the damn apocalypse outside those walls. Those kids in there are as strong as the speakers. I'm a liberal by the old standards, and a black man who very well knows where this type of fervor can lead. It's uneasy for me to watch, I hope these kids come to there sense soon. The strength of everyone in that room is inspiring.

What many young people today completely fail to connect (but which I'm sure a person of Dr. Peterson's age can well remember) is that these very same stupid interrupting strategies were being used in the 1960s and 70s against anyone who "the Resistance" disagreed with. If you need any proof, just YT "Richard Nixon at Oxford Union" for the very same disgraceful interruption strategies being employed a generation or more ago...nothing new under the sun, it seems!

Junk Science: good observations, but just because they "completely fail to connect" today, our young people will grow older and wiser, and the appalling behavior of the radical leftists shown and recorded in this video will stay with them for many years, as will the courageous and gallant focus and commitment of Dr. Peterson as he - and the others present at this remarkable event - carried on against the caterwauling of the anti-intellectual mob.
Dr. Peterson's performance, and willingness to stand and continue against the opponents of free speech and free thought, show that he is and remains a fine teacher. What a lesson he taught those in attendance at this event.

Fascinating- on the inside of the building is a man with a beautiful mind- gently, kindly teaching what he believes is the best for society as a whole. After years and years of experience and study he humbly comes, admitting he doesn't have all the answers but willing to share what he has learned after a lifetime of study.....on the outside of the building is a mob.... who are mostly young, with little to no experience- little education and shockingly -some aren''t even sure of their own identity... and yet in spite of this they are out to silence one of the great minds of our time. Inside the building is inspiration and enlightenment - outside is an angry mob stirred into a frenzy... banging windows piling up garbage cans and chanting .... because they are barbarians who have no better way to communicate.... keep up the good work Jordan.... i wish i could have been there to hear you speak.

I think that is because his views are, at this very moment in time, really speaking to people in that group the most. but that doesn't mean that it doesn't speak to other types of people aswell, maybe not as strongly but nevertheless it does.
that white male audience assumption is also brought into focus by the fact that he fights against the so called SJW movement, which is known to state that white males should shut up and stand back, that's one of their core ideologies, that while males and their ideas should be ignored in favor of every other group.
that's why I think that this idea exists, that he only has white male followers. and that also just shows once again that these people are bigots and they don't even realise it, or they have a very twisted definition of that term.
they group up people and act like all of the people in a group are the same. a disgusting thought but in their twisted minds it is just and caring.
they think all transgender people are the same and are baffled by the thought of some of them supporting Peterson's ideas... I bet they would be shocked that you, an Asian woman does too, because to them all asian women are one group, and as a group you should resent his views.
back in the day we called that racism or bigotry, now they redefined these words so they don't fall under these terms, when in reality they do. and then they tried to force the public to accept their new definition of these words so they can be the good guy

And let me tell you, what he is doing, doing his presentations with no notes is only a testament to his superior intellect and ability to make sound value judgements. Doing a presentation, especially one drawing so heavily on scholarly endeavors is difficult. You have to know your material really well, which entails remembering the most relevant material that the presentation or conversation calls for, be able to choose from among the many that your mind offers up, and last be able to present it in the right words for your audience. So you need to remember, choose, present. So, he is doing it over and over throughout any given talk like a hundred times! I have the utmost greatest appreciation and thus respect for Dr. Peterson.

Every Top 2000 corporation in North America have a diversity departments that actively seek to hire people that are not white males (the pure definition of legal racism) and diversity purchasing departments (meaning they actively buy and support black, minority, LGBT companies first and receive bigger bonuses for doing so). In addition if you work at any company you will go through sexual harassment training which sounds forthright in its theory but when you get into it you will find that going to lunch with 2 male friends is sexual harassment and sexism because you didn’t invite a female colleague....and you may have discussed something at lunch work related that excluded her, or a gay person, effectively instilling your white male privildge. In addition you will be given sensitivity training, explaining to you that it literally doesn’t matter what you say, someone has the right to be offended by it and you will face repurcussions for it if they raise a complaint to HR.
Be smart you’re in for a massive ride my friend.

You can expect lobsters! Rules for living your life in a manner that will make it meaningful. A fair amount of talk about the significance of the stories in the bible, and how they show us how to live our lives, and what happens when we don't follow the right path (It's not proselytizing though). Why cleaning your room is the first step to a life that is under your control. Parenting advice. Some tragic personal stories from peterson's life. How to be a bit more dangerous, and why that will prevent you from being evil. Why you should tell the truth, always, or at least not lie.
All sorts of things you already know, but have never been able to put words to, so you can define those things, and truly understand them.

I just watched enough of this video - so far - to be totally embarrassed that Queen's University, in my home town, allowed this guest of theirs to be harassed to such an extent, and so persistently throughout the evening. As Dr Peterson said to this effect, "How disrespectful to attack an event that so many people put so much work and effort into; appalling." Total understatement of course, but as simple as that. How on earth did Queen's not know that this would happen. The MC actually mentioned the security staff as having put so much effort into the event. I'm sorry, but they should be sacked forthwith. Even after the protests began - and I've only watched a short snippet - there was no sign of security to any effect - imagine - in Belfast a shortage of effective security!!
I sincerely hope that no one I know even remotely took part in such a shameful attack. I can only imagine that the attackers are so afraid of those they disagree with that they simply have to descend into childish tantrums with their hands over their ears repeating, "No! Don't say that! No! Don't say that, it's not true, it can't be true! And if it is true I won't be able to handle it!"
I feel like I should say a lot more but words fail me as to the logic or the purpose.
PS - I take my hat off to the trans person in these comments who was courageous enough to say that Jordan Peterson was reasonable in his presentation - thank you - that's how we get things done! There is hope.

Oh he's discussing something that's vaguely related to transgender rights because of bill c-16?! Then it must be he doesn't care about transgender people, and neither do any of his followers! So it's either black or its white, there's no chance that he's discussing something in the middle somewhere. And if it triggers their emotions or challenges their virtue signalling, then it's automatically evil!! That's the logical fallacy of radical leftism in a nutshell, they judge the truthfulness of something by their initial emotional reaction to it. So they're a SLAVE to their emotions, they won't even investigate whether something is true or not or what shade of grey it might be, pitiful way to live really.

Such behaviour is not new. Have a look at the TH-cam video of Nixon speaking at Oxford University forty years ago. The reaction from a noisy few is almost identical to what JP experienced. I'm glad that Queen's University did not cave in to pressure and cancel the event. Unfortunately other universities have tried to appease the mob by preventing 'controversial' speakers from appearing at scheduled events.
Maybe that is why so-called 'liberal intolerance' is growing today. Because the universities are afraid to stand up for their ideals against the mob.

Veovdadi, I didn't say he said it to be funny... I just find it funny, and had me laughing... there's something humorous in it, whatever his intention is. You cannot really dictate my reaction to whatever he said. I may find it funny, or serious, it is my discretion. I'm not really explaining what he said, just stating my reaction to this very particular quote.
Btw, when he said that there's nothing funny about it, I think he is stating about the act of the groups, not on the quote stated above. I for one, don't find the disturbance funny; I find it very annoying and for a progressive and rich country, I find this act a bit ironic.

He’s defending independence and freedom of thought and speech to promote mental resilience and strength not just in his life, or your life or the lives of the people who oppose him, but in everyone’s lives. What a worthwhile occupation. It linked straight in to what he was saying about treating yourself with respect and thereby realising that all people matter in the same way that you do. I came to a realization upon watching this video, it hit me about half-way through, and I'd love to hear other thoughts on this. Seeing these kids screaming and going on outside the door made me reflect on my own university experience, as I am currently finishing up my last semester of undergrad (social sciences too). Here are my thoughts. It's not these kids that we should be alarmed and appalled at; they are young, impressionable, and despite what they're being told, they are immature KIDS. That's all it comes down to.
What I AM concerned about is the professors that are fueling this kind of behavior and cognitive dissonance that has been portrayed drastically more over the past few years, but seems to only be getting worse. These oh so wise and intellectual professors have a responsibility that they are failing dismally at. Dr. Peterson has talked at length about this.
Our focus needs to be exactly what Peterson's most primal message is: dismantle these ultra-postmodern, out-of-touch, and seemingly hate-filled ideologies that are being spoonfed to young absorbent minds by professors who are abusing their positions of power.
This raises two sinister questions: are these professors aware of the hypocritical, deviant, and ultimately destructive elements that are contained in their messages, or are they completely oblivious and naive? Both are equally terrifying.

I think the responsibilities lie on many levels:
      1. The school administration that doesn't enforce the schools rules, and doesn't punish this type of behavior. If you have people that are used to ignoring rules and getting always with it, you are only breeding criminals.
2.The professors who pass on their ideas to their students, a university professor is not a "teacher" in the full extent of the word, but more a "mentor", the transition is when you stop being told what to bring to class in order to be able to follow, to when you are suggested what might be useful with no real obligation.
3.The parenting, I would argue that these kids lack a father figure in their lives. Male parents are (usually) the first law enforcers, those that teach children to respect authority and not display some sort of behaviors in public. If you reach the age of young adult and are behaving like an infant, throwing tantrums and breaking property (whether it is yours or not), it is quite telling of your upbringing.

    • @SlocketSeven
      @SlocketSeven 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Funny thing about riots. You only need a handful of bad actors in a crowd to turn things ugly. A crowd of 100 peaceful (though loud and stupid) demonstrators can be turned violent when just 5 people start throwing rocks, or start banging on windows. People get swept up in the moment and do terrible things. When you ask them later why they did those terrible things, they will not know. They will tell you it isn't like them, and they would never do that normally. Most people in crowds like this think they are good, because they have never been given the opportunity to be malevolent. Give them the chance, and they will jump at the chance to be malevolent.
Most of these protesters are probably from the school or the local area. If anyone came from out of town, it would be the worst of the worst, who probably got the keys to mom's minivan for a few days for a road trip. An entire bus load of agitators is not required to make a scene like this. Those agitators probably aren't part of some nefarious plot, but simply malevolent people, swept up by the drama of the event, who see it as a good opportunity to raise some hell.
Luckily for us, Leftists spend most of their time screaming in incoherent rage, and abusing innocent trash cans. We'd be in real trouble if they were truly conscientious about their rabble rousing.
Antifa was the closest thing to an organized group of professional rioters, and in the US at least, plain clothes officers very quickly dismantled their entire movement quickly and quietly. They went from causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage with bombs, bike locks, and incendiary devices, to waving banners and screaming incoherently in just a couple of months. They don't even get in fights with trash cans anymore.

And if all we can do when someone disagrees is attack them, how can we move forward? Trying to destroy members of your own society because you can't win them over-- that just leads to fascism. Doesn't matter whether that takes the form of Naziism or Socialism, it's still a disaster.

I'm 10 minutes into the video, Dr Peterson has yet to utter a word and the intensity and sheer range of emotions I'm already feeling has compelled me to pause and comment.
Dr Peterson, in the description box of this video, after you detail the chaos, aggression and violence perpetrated at this talk, you say it's 'not good, not good at all'
My initial instinct is to agree with you and despair. But then I note that your subscribers currently number almost a million. I note that this video has almost 30 thousand views just a couple of hours after posting. Just a brief glance through the comments section and I see nuanced, well thought out statements and discussion. I note, overwhelmingly, civility and reason despite differences of opinion.
It IS good Dr Peterson! It's good because there enough of us out here and in that lecture hall who understand. There are enough of us who see the Emperor's naked ass parading down the city streets and are prepared to say it out loud! I don't know if you were the first to utter that truth but you are definitely the loudest. Your courage and conviction have inspired the same in others to speak the truth!
The Emperor is absolutely starkers!! We all see his dimpled, doughy flesh exposed to the elements.
No bill, no legislation, no mob, no bull horn exists that change the fact that he doesn't have a stitch on him. And thanks to your courage we're prepared to say it out loud!

    • @c3cubed
      @c3cubed 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Many echo your sentiments as suggested by his huge following. But so many are still young, and unaccustomed to waging a genuine battle, let alone a "war" to defend something that we took for granted since the last physical battle between the continents in the 20th century.
This is a war of intellectual prowess against a tyrannical 'idiocracy' [that] not only has full governmental support - but is being fueled by a baffling degree of legacy-liberal ideal run amok. Let's just say, daddy Trudeau's implementation of the "Charter of Rights and Freedoms" was a noble experiment that went terribly wrong. I knew this was going to happen over thirty years ago when I read it, line for line. It's convoluted multicultural & religious definitions are impossible to align in democratic practice.
We can be grateful that Peterson has arrived at precisely the right moment in time. Given that he has amassed an international army of educated and/or intelligent followers - we are in the learning phase of verbally articulate fencing against our attacker; we must Parry and Reposte with devastating skill and immaculate, surgical dispatch. To wit; Jordan speaks a moral pragmatism that intelligence understands. We can win this war, with the right sword of tempered steel, and always keep up our guard.

    • @christinaky2564
      @christinaky2564 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

c3cubed indeed! Dr Peterson has arrived none too soon. However, I do feel that the space and time in which we currently find ourselves as humans have made his rise inevitable. He has the intelligence, education and extensive vocabulary to say what many of us are thinking but can't quite articulate.
And as I write this it occurs to me that the chaos and zealous absurdity that often surrounds his talks - while it's frustrating and galling to witness - has been invaluable in letting us know that we are indeed in a war against 'tyrannical idiocracy'
Because it's not always been as evident, certainly not to me. And I've found it's the stealthy propaganda which is the most dangerous. The Hollywood movie diet many of us have been on since childhood, the media bias which we are fed daily, the psychological manipulation of our need to be compassionate and fair - all of these are so dangerous in that they are so well disguised! But when one day you see the absurdity of the naked emperor before your very eyes, you can't help but see the truth. And the powers that be are telling you he is clothed and that if you don't wish to suffer dire consequences best you compliment his beautiful outfit or at least keep your mouth shut. 'But he's naked!' Your mind screams. And all it takes is that one voice to pipe up and the tides quickly turn.
You're right in that many warriors on the side of reason are still very young. And yet Lindsay Shepherd is all of 22. And her class, not one of them complained protested the discussion. So I have hope.
I'm not Canadian, I live in the U.K. And yet Bill C16 is as close to me as to any Canadian. we certainly live in interesting times.

Must retreat to simpler times!), who believes in cultural Marxism (an old antisemitic con), who repeatedly courts the alt right and Trumpites, who "struggles to find things of value in Islam" which is a "naturally warlike religion and whom feminists defend because they subconciously want to be dominated by men", who won't touch the fact that contemporary neocolonialism (oft waged by hyper Christians) is deliberately thwarting secularism in Middle Eastern nations by arming and funding islamo fascists and proxy terrorist groups (all for private profit), who thinks marriage should be kept sanctified from gays, and that sex should be enshrined in marriage (outside of marriage women will get raped), who misunderstands the Pareto law in an attempt to "naturalize" exploitation and poverty, who has a wrong and cartoonishly simple understanding of history and economics, who has no understanding of how money is created under capitalism, who can't tell the difference between John Wheeler's Participatory Anthropic Principle and the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, who got famous for overreacting to a law which wasn't a law, who echoes the hysteria of trans-medicalist groups, criticises "poor methodology" while belonging to a field which epitomizes it, who would "oppose gay marriage if its what leftists want", who can't handle any contemporary findings in neuroscience or with regards to hard free will, and who behaves like a hilariously cranky old Republican or traditionalist.

This makes me so ashamed of my Country... A shame how far Canada has fallen. We should treasure a man like Peterson, not silence him. Jesus Christ

Sweet old meme well, we live in a backwards world right now my friend. Facts are racist, the sane are called crazy, schools are dumbing people down and common sense is anything but common. This is a small taste of whats to come if people dont smarten up.

Sweet old meme...Which is why those who strongly oppose such extreme behavior must stand up against them, i.e. actually stand up and chant them down; challenge the government and universities to police effectively; raise your collective voices to overpower them to restore order. It must happen in Australia, Britain, the U.S. Too many times the obnoxious few shout while the vast majority just looks on befuddled and hypnotized as if powerless. We all must resist the few.

Try to remember that this is a very verbal and very loud minority of misled and unsatisfied (spoiled) young adults. They do not represent your country. Do not be ashamed of your country, be ashamed of the parents and teachers that allowed them to get so out of line.

We didn't! The university openly welcomed this discussion, with the principal calling censorship attempts intellectually lazy.

For a good reason, because it is a sign of something very, very bad unfolding.

When Peterson talks of the great thinkers in his lectures, I can't help but admire him for being one of those voices for this and many generations to come.
People like Jordan Peterson do not come along very often, not all will agree with him but we should still listen and open our selfish minds to the possibility that we might be wrong about some of our assumptions, not only about him but about our society and the individual freedoms we should not try and strip each other of.
