After once again stopping watching Derek and Dalton's videos after a few minutes today because I'm sick of their stupid promotion of nutritional supplements whose effectiveness has already been disproven many times, I want to say "Thank you". Thank you for not having any "sponsorship" on this channel. Thank you for not jumping on the bandwagon to make more money by promoting snake oil. Thank you for doing what you've been doing for years: having fun with wrenching and taking us along. What a relief.
As an ex-mechanic and at 50 years old, I would love to be Mustie's apprentice. His diagnostic skills and fixes, still amaze me after a few years of watching him. I love how you still get excited when an engine pops off and shows signs of life, it is infectious. Mustie I love your videos I appreciate the effort you put into entertaining us and teaching old dogs new tricks. Please keep going I get excited on a Sunday. Big love from the UK.
As a retired part time machinist it is generally recommended that when hand threading a bolt in, you start by going backwards to feel the "Click" of the threads locking together which is the sign for you to reverse direction to the right.
Yes, 100% snowmobile engine! Many manufacturers used that engine back in the late 60's and early '70s. As a point of reference for next time you do not need to gravity feed the gas to that type of carb since the fuel pump is built in, and you have a pulse line coming from your crankcase that drives the pump. GREAT VIDEO - LOVE IT!!
Very neat video Mustie, CONGRATULATIONS, that was a real project and very challenging as well entertaining, has been very long time ago that I haven't have one of those in my 72 years of age, my most expressive thanks for sharing it with us, please keep us posted, from the endless summer paradise Puerto Rico Jesus Torres.
Good morning everyone and thanks Again Mustie for another video and time in shop. Everyone asking for prayers for all affected by the recent hurricane in Florida and major Flooding in NC and Tennessee. Parts of Tennessee and Nc are devastated. Whole towns are gone. They need our prayers 🙏✝️
One of the tricks I've learned to do if jets or other screws are stuck in a carb is to send it through the ultrasonic for a cycle or two with that screw in place. Quite often the heat, fluid and cleaning action will unstick the threads and allow me to remove it for another round in the bath.
Interesting tech from Germany! It reminds me of the Harley Davidson golf cart engines from the 60’s except when you applied power in reverse to the starter / generator it would start the engine in reverse so one could back up the cart. The forward reverse selector also isolated the charging voltage to battery when it was in reverse or they used a diode patch to prevent reverse voltage from reaching the battery. That centrifugal clutch needs to be polished a bit since the rust will wear the belt prematurely. These early engines from HD were also two stroke.
Glad she is back to running. Just cant wait to see the engine on tbe project now. Not sure what would keep the track from getting all tore up during the summer months, but I bet it fun year round no matter what.
Late to view this one but, I've said it before and I think it's right, I'll say it again, Mustie, you ARE a MAGICIAN!! On to this weeks!! All the best, sir!!
I’m not sure if anybody has mentioned this, but I remember this engine from the late 60s being in some Moto ski snowmobiles. It was a 399 cc engine that didn’t produce a lot of power but was very reliable. Great video.
my sympathy goes out to you, living in central Florida I have been through quite a few but thankfully I've always been spared any serious damage or loss, stay positive my friend.
In the 70's as a teenager I had a Scorpion snowmobile with a 400cc version and also a Ski-doo that had a 340cc version transplant on it from the original 1 cylinder Rotax, the correct carb would have been a Walbro, I have fond memories of them engines.
Morning from Minnesota where we know a bit about snowmobile motors! Throw the carb in a drawer, get a pulse pump and mikuni. Add some back pressure to the exhaust and you got a little monster there!
Good morning all from Fairfax Virginia just outside of Washington DC. Wow, Mustie! you find the coolest stuff dumpster diving, yard sale shopping, and pulling out of old structures. Around here, it's hard to find that kind of stuff. You rarely see it and not for little or no money if you do.
Love to see you work on youre projects and the way you explain what you are doing.... you would be a great teacher....😉😁👍..... Greetsz from Holland/Friesland..max......👍😊😉😎🤗
I'm sitting here picturing that engine in that tiny little boat thing you were working on. And you flying across the water on top of that thing at 50 mph. That would be one heck of a scary ride!
It's not just Will it Run. It's more like , will Darren do the sinister laugh when it fires up! It is so satisfying to hear the little laugh after that burst of power.
Hi Darren. Love watching your videos! You have given the confidence to work on all kinds of equipment from lawn mowers to lawn tractors to my latest project a 1996 Yamaha Jog. (With only 200 KMS) Changed some parts and cleaned and adjusted the carb so that it works well.... But I cannot adjust the oil pump to stop the bike from puffing that smoke. I would love if you could do a video on how to adjust the oil pump! Thanks for for making great videos and explaining this stuff so that we can understand!
I've entered a time warp. I watch every Mustie1 video and can not remember part 1. I'm blaming old age. (Found it recorded 2 months ago) And the part that flew off jarred my memory :) Incoming.. Part 3 I found the missing part 2 months from now.
Morning from Minnesota, USA. I absolutely love this engine! My second snowmobile was a Scorpion with a JLO Rockwell 440. Some of my best memories 💓 ♥️! Please do something cool with it! Also a pulse pump and slide carb "mikuni" will simply tuning and make better power in the mid rpm range. FYI this engine is very lean/heat sensitive, get a set of rings and bearing Please!
Hi D. Great revival!! Go figure the carb kit was right but not. I just knew that you would get it running great!! Another awesome video!! Hope you have a great week!! Thanks again for sharing!! Can’t wait to see it put in and running!!😊😊😊Darren
Always a great Sunday when a new Mustie1 episode pops up in my feed. His laugh is absolutely hilarious when things go off track. That's definitely a snowmobile engine. I'm racking my brains trying to remember which brand I saw them in as a teen growing up in a small Michigan farm town north of Flint Michigan. Yes, I've seen them. They were ultra reliable. It'll come to me tonight as I'm falling asleep of course. Ooh, I believe it was made by Sachs. Rockwell badged so maybe a Monkey Wards branded snowmobile ?
I’ve had horrible luck with those aftermarket carb kits. I basically use the gaskets only and will clean up and reuse all the brass adjusters and jets from the original as you said. They’ve got real bad the last few years. Those Tillotson carbs always threw me for a loop getting the stack up and orientation correct.
Not sure if you noticed but the first time it flooded with the light spring in the carb, we could see the blown head gasket leaking fuel on the CVT side of the engine. Runs good all things considered and would make an awesome go-kart engine.
the diaphragm didn't fit because you were putting it on backwards, the metal part goes on the other side, not in the fuel chamber, then the holes will line up
I think once you sort an air filter and exhaust system for it, it will run a lot smoother, as the 2 strokes tend to need some back-pressure at low RPM to maintain crankcase pressure, but otherwise it's been a fun and informative set of Videos, I hope we will get to see what you decide to put it on to power it, great video, love that you bring the dead back to life. Sundays wouldn't be the same without Musties medling lol
he said it there was a preview of it in his last vid... the last vid was of a yard vacuum... guess I'll have to look and see what was in the background. Won't be able to sleep otherwise.

Uh I actually just saw a camera advertisement and one for Tinker and one for a politician…. Etc….
@@devicemechanix9049 Really? At what time stamps did Mustie advertise a camera, Tinker and a politician? I must have missed that.
@@NorbertMichalske I don’t know, I didn’t note it. But I saw at least 4 advertisements.
@@NorbertMichalske guess you’re luckier than me. Do you do paid TH-cam maybe?
@@devicemechanix9049There’s a difference between sponsorship and advertisements. TH-cam does the advertisements, and Mustie can’t control that.

Same background but the disassembly and cleaning of the tillotson style carb had me yelling. Why would you leave gaskets on in US cleaner? Lol
As a retired part time machinist it is generally recommended that when hand threading a bolt in, you start by going backwards to feel the "Click" of the threads locking together which is the sign for you to reverse direction to the right.
Mustie 1 master class on carburetors! I even have worked on carbs after learning from the man. Experience is what it takes to do this.
reminds me of working on my old snojet all summer only to get it started and watch it take off across the yard and craxh into a gulley...good times
Good morning from Texas, everyone.
Morning from Montreal.
Just finished smoking a brisket. Great morning.
Good Morning! 😄☕🌄
@@maustank8864 I'll bring the baked potatoes! 🥩🥔🥔🤤

One of the most extraordinary real mechanics I've ever encountered

How can you turn trash into treasure, this guy shows you how. Best regards from Ireland Mustie lad.
This is a very cool engine. Can’t wait to see Mustie 1 screaming around with it. What an awesome find. Thanks
I love a mustie laugh when something starts for the first time.
Thanks Mustie, that sound is so evocative, reminds me of the old 2 stroke race bikes, beautiful.
Another fun Sunday morning in the shop!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
An alternator/starter repair shop should have snap ring and circular keeper! Old Chevy starters used a flat keeper! Luv u videos!
Thank you for the work you do producing these videos!

Cool engine. Looks like it could be modular, like a multi-rotor wankel. Stack Cylinders with a different crank. Nice work as always.
classic engine still alive... great job figure out carb putting back together.
Love when Mustie gets a engine to turn over and the Joy we hear!!!!! The best!!!!
Glad she is back to running. Just cant wait to see the engine on tbe project now. Not sure what would keep the track from getting all tore up during the summer months, but I bet it fun year round no matter what.
Great video, That is the same engine I had in my 1969 artic cat. That machine/engine was awesome during the blizzard 1978"
That's a very good and proper way to show off the

Hollywood Florida, USA. Always here Sunday mornings!
Nicely done friend, now we need a old briggs and stratton mini bike to drop this into....
That Vertex decal brought back memories for me from the sixties. We used to run Vertex Magneto s in our gasser engines when we raced.
Greetings from Bologna, Italy, where this NC farmer and mate are having a glass of wine and enjoying Mustie on vacation!
Morning coffee and mustie1 🤤, Franklin MA checking in....
I'll second that👍👍👍👍
That carb kit is typical aftermarket garbage. That engine was used in Polaris snowmobiles and could be over 50 years old. Thanks for the video.
In the 70's as a teenager I had a Scorpion snowmobile with a 400cc version and also a Ski-doo that had a 340cc version transplant on it from the original 1 cylinder Rotax, the correct carb would have been a Walbro, I have fond memories of them engines.

We had a 72 Massey ferguson snowmobile that had a 440 JLO rockwell. Sounds exactly like that one.
That would be wicked sweet on a go-kart 😁
Fantastic timing, I've literally finished TH-cam today, had nothing else to watch until my favorite TH-camr posted this video..cheers !
Glad I'm not the only one who spends all their time watching other people work instead of getting on with my own projects .
always thought it would be fun to put one of those 80's or early 90's 340 snowmobile engines on a large go cart. That baby would rip!

Great job on bringing that thing back to life.
Nothing like a Sunday Mustie1 vid and coffee. Nice job reviving that 2 stroke.
That engine sounds great..good find

The game was on stupid peacock!
At the end of the video, it's always satisfying to hear Mustie say one more time.
I can just see Musty out in the woods with that thing on a snowmobile. Trying to build a fire after that piece of crap leaves him stranded 😂

I thought I was the only one.
If it makes you feel any better, Mustie can't often remember either because he often says he can't. He handles many projects at once.
Even if he found the missing part, it wouldn't be much use as that one flew off too.
Same. Totally forgot about this one.
Same. I first thought I skipped this one, but it's in my watch list, so...
I Must(ie) be getting old.
Welcome mustie fans ,from a cold Surrey uk

They also had CCW 400cc in them too.
god afton from sweden too.
that is what I like about your videos I always learn new stuff, thanks.
Good Morning Mustie1 , hope you’re doing well! Thanks for the Sunday morning video!
That would be a wild golf cart engine.
Good afthernoon from the Nederlands.
Good morning Mustie from Laredo Texas.
Hello from wareham ma Mustie 1 love all your videos have learned so much!!!!
Good morning from Michigan
oddly, my favorite part, aside from the engine running, is him fighting and winning with his struggle against a temperamental carburetor.
Love the slip ons. Keep up the good work.

Good morning Mustie1, from Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada
It's amazing how you can raise the Dead keep up the amazing work 👍🇺🇲
the diaphragm didn't fit because you were putting it on backwards, the metal part goes on the other side, not in the fuel chamber, then the holes will line up
I'm not no engine speaking guy but I was thinking that the whole time he was trying to get to fit. I was, "Why not flip it over mate?" :-)
And that inlet valve lever was set waaaayy too high. He may have got it running, but it sure ain’t right!
