- On March 16th 2024, the Hokuriku Shinkansen (北陸新幹線) was extended from Kanazawa for the first time in almost a decade - and we got seats on the very first departure of the new train that morning!
In this video, we'll ride the very first train on the new line extension and spend an afternoon in Tsuruga (in Fukui Prefecture). I'll also explain three different options for to buying Shinkansen (bullet train) tickets & how to navigate train travel in Japan.

Great video as always. You should have cycled back along the coast ;)
haha, that would've been fun! The last time I tried to ride along the coastal bike path through Komatsu there was too much sand covering it though - hopefully it will be clear again soon, that section is really pretty
Another awesome, informative history lesson! 😝
Great day out, soaking in the excitement of the 1st train trip on the new line.
Also fab to see family mart making an appearance 😃
New kicks too?! 👍🏽
haha, thanks for noticing the new shoes, I was excited about them 😂 and glad you enjoyed it! Lots of historical facts in this one lol - thanks for always watching!
Very nice movie😃
thanks so much for watching!🚅🥰
Wow, seeing that many people early in the morning excited for the train felt kind of surreal! Very cool seeing Kehi Shrine, that felt like the quintessential Japanese shrine experience (especially that shot at 8:48 with the sun peeking from behind the temple). I'll be visiting Japan early this summer through a school trip, so watching your video makes me pretty excited lol
haha yes it was cool to see so much excitement so early in the morning! And Kehi Shrine was definitely beautiful. Thats amazing you'll be in Japan soon! Where will you be visiting?
@@AnniewhereAndEverywhere I'd need to check the itinerary again, but I think it's just the famous places like Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hakone, etc. The really cool thing is I get to do a homestay experience for the first couple days with a Japanese high school student whom I'll get to go to school with. That should be pretty exciting. Also, going to spend a week after the school trip with my family, so maybe I'll get to check out some less famous places as well. It's not less famous by any means, but I hope I get to check out Hokkaido in particular. The nature there is so pretty!
@@lycanerf6885 Wow that sounds like a great trip!! So many highlights - theres a reason they're famous, I think it's great you'll get to see all those cities 😄 I've actually never been to Hakone! Doing a homestay sounds so neat - there was a high school girl in my Japanese class who did a similar sounding program with a homestay and she said it was so cool. I'm excited for you! 🥰
My favorite thing about Japan is the fact that cats are everywhere, even when they're not, like in those little paintings everywhere. Maybe you can bring the train and cat themes of this video together in another video about that train station with an actual cat stationmaster. My cat would love that. :)
Agreed! I love finding cats everywhere haha - good idea, I would love to meet that cat stationmaster - hello to your cat! :)
@@AnniewhereAndEverywhere Thank you, and I will tell her you say hello when I next see her. I lied a little, she's not 'my' cat but a stray who comes here often requesting seafood-flavored snacks. I think she would like Japan for that very reason, given the plethora of seafood-flavored everything there. Btw, thanks for making fun videos!
@@joeyp1927 aw thats even better! both of our cats used to be strays - its fun that you found each other. Thanks for watching!
@@AnniewhereAndEverywhere You're welcome! Speaking of strays, I just talked to a woman who used to take care of our cat and she said it was never really her cat - it came to her, had babies, and then disappeared, turning up at our place later. I guess our cat, Grisabella, did not like this woman's accommodations and was auditioning for caretakers. So I guess we won!!!
@@joeyp1927 haha that is great, and Grisabella, what a name!
