  • I'll show you how I installed the Bi-LED Projector Conversion kit from RetroFitLab.com into my Porsche 996.1
(same procedure for the Boxster 986.1)
This is a VERY long, comprehensive video, showing everything I did from start to finish. My mistakes are also included, at the end of Part 2, in the 'Bonus Material' section.
To help make finding parts of the video easier, here are the time stamps for the Chapters:
    Intro 00:00
    Headlight Removal 00:52
    Prepare Headlight 1:51
    Into the Oven 4:51
    Lens Removal 10:10
    Reflector/Sealant Removal 16:36
    Bi-LED Assy/Install 28:39
    Install Angel Eye/Halo 44:31
I don't get a commission from RetroFitLab.com, but here are the links to the items I purchased for this conversion:
-Porsche 911 996.1 pre-FL 98-01 Bi-LED retrofit headlight upgrade kit for halogen headlights (AlphaLED x2 RHT)
    retrofitlab.co...
-105 mm 6000k (or 5000k if you prefer a less 'Blue' effect) Angel Eyes / Halo (round) - SMD LED
    retrofitlab.co...
Since I didn't care for the look of the 'Panamera' shroud that comes with the above Conversion kit, I switched it out for the 'Gatlin Gun' shroud
    retrofitlab.co...
A couple of other things I used in this process were:
    -ThermoPro TP03B Digital Thermometer
    -Alumilite Amazing Mold Maker
Before I attempted this project I watched a few TH-cam videos. Check out below, the ones I found most helpful:
    -RetroFitLab.com has an instructional video:

    Part 1 • Porsche 911 996.1 986....

HelpMeDIY also has an excellent video:

    Disclaimer:
I an NOT a professional mechanic and DO NOT have any training in the automotive field. Poorish 911 Guy assumes no liability for anything you choose to do to your car after watching my video. This should NOT be considered a 'How To' video.... but more of a 'This is What I did ' video.

I’m in the process of doing the same conversion. I got off the lens of the first headlight and I used a paint can opener where I filed down the point of the opener to get it underneath the groove. The ring lets you pull up the lens out of the groove.

Another thing a person could consider is, removing the white 'scale' inside the housing that is used for aligning the original headlight. It serves no purpose after the Projector Retro-fit. If I was to do this project again, I'd just snap it off or at least paint black to make it less noticeable.
