  • For you 996 Owners. I install LED headlights (actually Hybrid Lights), on a 2000 Porsche 911. This video is also applicable to the Boxter 987. The headlights were from a company in the UK, called Design911.com. I really love the lights, and will upgrade the Low and High beam bulbs from Halogen to LED to make the entire light LED. Note that the driving lights ARE LEDs. The light has the 4, LEDs that surround the Projector lens and they look VERY MODERN! It also has clear/amber turnsignal LEDs that double as DRLs (Day Time Running Lights), and as usual, thanks for watching HowToHeaven!

    Only Porsche makes changing the entire assembly easier than a light bulb in a chevy truck

    Also for Boxster 986.
    Can be found on the internet in two versions: for left-hand drive and also for right-hand drive.

      And BTW, the new headlights look great. My 996 is the same color so I might l look for the dark ones.

    Have you had any bulb related failure issues with this product? I read they often fail and commonly need replacements.

    I forgot to say, if it is really a RHD British version it will not work on left hand driven cars (or you use a special tape for the reflector like the Brits do when the drive in continental Europe), because it will shine to the left side of the street instead of illuminating the right side , where the street ends . Also changing the light units means to adjust the two units to the same height and angle. Normally a job for a shop with the measurement device. Nice to watch and enjoy your car.

    • @Chon-c
      @Chon-c ปีที่แล้ว

      No. They are easy to adjust without going to a Porsche tax shop.
      Just pull up to a wall and adjust beams generally where you think they need to be. Then drive it on the road & then fine turn accordingly.
      I’ve done my own plus others.
      Ride heights are different for different cars. Whether that’s from shocks down Bcuz of age or from having adjustable coils on them.
      So “the special tool” only gets you as far as using a white wall for INITIAL general adjustment 💁‍♂️. Lol.

    Usually only difference for left hand and right hand drive lights are if they have a projector for light output instead of a chrome bowl. With the projector they have what’s called a cut off. That essentially allows more light out one side. So the outer side of the road has more light than on coming traffic. Sorry there are definitely better ways to explain this. I’m just not good with words.

    hi. I have a 2000 porsche 996 like your's, but it's a hard top. i bought these lights, like your's but it has chrome trim instead of the black trim. i'm having a heck of a time locking them, it won't click. and all of a sudden the left lights aren't working even with the originals back in.

    • @HowToHeaven
      @HowToHeaven  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, I can't help you. I am sure that ALL the aftermarket lights by design, look the same, and many are made in China, so they will look the same, but Quality is probably quite different.

    I wish these weren’t so chrome-y. Otherwise they’d work well with my black 996.

      @Chon-c ปีที่แล้ว

      He didn’t put it on. That’s how they are made. Lol 🙄.
      They are white lights & orange for when you turn on signals ti left or right.

      No yellow bulbs, the LEDs change colors from White to Yellow when the turn signal is activated!

      @HowToHeaven  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand your question. Are you trying to convert to the traditional oval headlight look? If so, you would need to replace the fenders and bumper.

    How has your long term testing been? Any warm weather issue as noted in the comment?

    • @HowToHeaven
      @HowToHeaven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As LED headlights go, if they worked out of the box, I would expect them to last a bit, and they did. Unfortunately, I cannot give a long term test opinion as I have since sold the 911.

    • @HowToHeaven
      @HowToHeaven  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eBlack996 I am assuming that you are asking why I sold the 911. If that is your question, it is because the clutch was always too hard for my knee. I installed a new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and clutch assist spring to no avail...still to hard on my knee, so I decided to sell it. Loved driving that car!

    I had replaced my tail lights on my 911 996 C4S with Depot LED lights. I didnt like them partly because the red stripes didn't match anymore. So I returned those. But I'm considering getting these headlights. Is the price really worth it you think?

    • @HowToHeaven
      @HowToHeaven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the lights, especially because of the 4 leds surrounding the projector lens, makes the car look modern! I think the price is worth it! They have the same style on Ebay, I'm sure that they are the same manufacturer based on the similarity of the pictures. Ebay also sells LED tail lights for $345, pretty pricey! (Porsche car markup). Thanks for watching!

      These lights are of medium quality. When they are on for more than half an hour in very hot weather, the brightness of the LED headlight decreases!
