  • This is a recital of Andrew Buhr, disciple of Jeff Lewis, in a recital of double bass playing the rare Indian art form of Dhrupad. Andrew here is performing Raag Jaijaivanti-Alap & Jor, for his portion of this Student Recital.

    I enjoyed it, the instrument is obviously not unsuited to Dhrupad, but for some reason the sound is too `clean`. There is not the variety of frequencies you would get with say a gourd resonator or sympathetic strings. Sympathetic strings may help? I dont know. Would be quite an undertaking. Other than that I think the double bass may actually do a better job with Khyal.
