They sound good because they are amazing . No auto tune,no fake crap. Real singers and musicians with real talent, like most singers and musicians from the 70s
Oh give it a rest. They used effects. Auto tune? No. It didn't exist yet. If it had, Freddie would have used it, and done something weird and wonderful with it. And I hate to burst your bubble, but talent didn't stop with the 70s. There are remarkably talented musicians and singers today, just like there have always been.

@TheBarkinFrog What? They did not auto tune, that's why they sound so good. You misunderstood what I said or meant. They were amazing. I listen to them live!
I did not say the used Auto Tune. It didn't exist. They did use various effects: Reverb, compression, EQ,, de-essing. Just putting a voice through a microphone alters it. I didn't misunderstand what you said. You just don't understand what we can do.
Wow...what a whiney baby. We live today and have only seen what super talented producers can do with untalented people who look the part. The artist are no longer the performers. The artist are post production.
Once you 'Get' Queen...They become part of your soul and mental wallpaper. Although now in this 21st century there is so much mystique surrounding Queen, and particularly Freddie's legendary status...We who were privileged to see Queen perform live, knew instinctively that we were witnessing inimitable greatness. I was so very fortunate to attend several of their concerts in different parts of the world in the mid 80's...This band were the perfect storm, and Freddie was the God with pockets full of fairy dust, who ensured each and every ticket holder experienced the absolute time of their lives. Dear Freddie showed us inside his heart...and we will love him forever for it.❤
If you didnt catch it, the time he got up and started playing to the crowd, he was ad libbing that whole part because Brian broke a guitar string. If you'll notice Brian walks to the back and Freddie keeps looking over his shoulder until he comes back... It wasnt a rehearsed part..
These 4 guys were together as the band Queen for 20 years (1971 til 1991 when Freddie died from AIDS) so you have 20 years of Queen music to get to know and to enjoy !!! Have fun.....
Quite possibly one of if not THE best live performance of a single song in history. The talent, passion, conviction and cohesion among the group is lightning in a bottle.
Brings tears to my eyes hearing the reactions of younger generations and acknowledging that our music was pure and simple. NO AUTOTUNE. Thank you to opening your mind to other types/styles of music.
The cups are mostly tea with honey and lemon to sooth his throat. You are doing a great review. The stand broke during an early pre-Queen performance. He just kept singing and liked the mobility it gave him and made it his " signature thing". He often plays air guitar with it
If you want to know the real reason for the half microphone stand, go and look up Mercury's Caduceus. Mercury is the Winged Messenger, that's why Freddie had the wings on his early outfits. He's not going to go to all that effort to look like the Winged Messenger and not have his Caduceus is he? You'll understand when you look up Mercury's Caduceus ; )
The broken stand happened before he joined Smile, and a couple of years before he changed his name to Mercury. There is a conversation with one of his Wreckage/DSour Milk Sea band members who said it happened with their band. It is available on TH-cam, but does it really matter when it happened? The question was why did he like it @9ofdiamonds350
The story behind Freddie's microphone is the band was beginning one of their very first shows ( long ago) and right when Freddie was about to pick up the mic, it broke and it separated from the bottom so all he had was the pole and mic, and Freddie actually liked it that way and the rest is history. From that day, it was all he used for every show. Queen is IMO the greatest band to ever grace the stage and Freddie Mercury is the ultimate frontman of all time. Do your soul, ears and brain a favor and stay with Queen, there are 200 hundred songs to love and you know more of their songs that you think. I seriously enjoy watching the two of you, keep up the good work guys. 👑💙🫶

@ It's incredibly fascinating, Freddie is a Virgo Sun sign and Virgo is ruled by Mercury. He absolutely embodied all the Mercury traits, the black and white duality as you already pointed out. I'm a decoder/numerologist and Freddie is covered in the 69 Yin Yang! His Birth Card is the 6 of Diamonds and his Spirit Card is the 9 of Clubs (Yin Yang). Brian May also has the 9 of Clubs (his birth card) - 9 of Clubs is card 22👇 Queen = 22 (Chaldean) 22nd prime number is 79 Element 79 is Gold Some tidbits for you, have a wonderful holiday ; )
The cups are from the whole band, not just Freddie. If you notice, they're all different so he can find his quickly. He always kept tea with honey on the piano during a full set to keep this throat from drying out. The beer bottle you see is from one of the concert sponsors, as a promotion; the bottle always sits with it's label facing the cameras. Freddie liked carrying the mike stand because it gave him something to do with his hands while he was singing. Rogert Taylor is the drummer, John Deacon on bass guitar and Brian May lead guitar.
This ages me to an 'old one', but I spent my 24th b-day at this concert in Montreal. 8th row, center floor. It is a concert I'll never forget. When Freddie was singing this song, I was close enough to see the sweat on his brow! He is sorely missed and will never be replaced. There was over 18,000 of us at the concert.
Roger and Freddie always sang nice together. If Freddie was tired at the end of a two and half hour concert roger would pick up the high notes allowing Freddie to rest his voice at lower note. This happened at Live aid because Freddie was sick then with a throat issues and was told not to perform but he would never let the fans down. You think they are young here, please react to Liar at the Rainbow London 1974. Each member has a solo and there is is great guitar solos from Brian. I've been a fan since 73 so I'm a very old lady love watching you two great young men speak so intelligently. Blessings from England
"Why does he sound so clear?" - He sounded clear because, generally speaking, people used to speak with greater clarity than they do today. This is especially true for performers such as singers and actors, who no longer articulate their words with the same precision. As we look further back into the 20th century, the clarity of speech becomes increasingly evident. While it may seem somewhat outdated to our ears, the diction from that era is notably crisper and more distinct than what we typically encounter now.
Soundboxes had a lot of noise from fractured wires, radio had a lot of static if it wasn't cabled to a building like in England and overall show houses didn't have extra sound boxes, so the band had to play in a way that the sound traveled without being to loud. Add to that Freddie's training in operatic singing and it's almost a lost art of performance for the whole band to play like this 😊
Freddie Mercury is his stage name. His real name is Farrohk Bulsara. He was born in Zamzibar, which was an English colony on the Africa, this city now belongs to Tanzania. He and his family moved to London when he was 17 years old.
Stumbled into one of these videos and its been a joy to watch you guys discovering Queen. I'm in my 40s now and grew up listening to them because of my parents and was just old enough to remember Freddie Mercury passing away. There is something timeless about their talent and the emotional pull of their music. Hope you keep discovering the rest of the back catalogue as there's so many incredible songs and performances to see
5:12 I grew up singing.. this is a masterclass in diaphragm control. He's breathing from down in his core, and he's had a lot of time to extend how much air he can get and when and how to draw out every ounce of air to keep those notes holding out as long as they do. 🔥🔥🔥
You've found the greatest band of all time gentlemen , spread the word, keep Freddies flame burning. Just seen the comment " I wanna see how big the crowd is.." 2 words... Live Aid
You two are doing a fantastic job! It makes me smile when young people discover Queen. You may want to react to their Live Aid performance at some point. I would also suggest "Love of my Life", in Rio, and "White Queen" at Hammersmith.
The reason it looks so good is because it was shot on film. Queen was one of the top rock and roll bands in the world. They could afford to pay for film cameras to record the performance. Audio wasn't yet digital, but it was extremely high quality analog, which, even today, some people think is better than digital. Regardless, it's on par. That's why it looks and sounds so good
Queen was the absolutely the best! I saw them in many concerts. You need to see the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie had the most amazing voice & NoOne has come close. In an early performance he broke the microphone stand & he just liked how it felt.
Scientists have studied his voice and concluded that no human can do what he does with his voice . He is the greatest this universe will ever have . There is no one who can come close . Aside from that , he is the most beautiful soul that was ever created.
No auto tune then...just raw talent. Queen's lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury, had an incredible vocal range and is considered the best rock frontman in history. All four members of the band (Roger Taylor drums, Brian May lead guitar, John Deacon bass guitar) are college educated, all four wrote songs covering many music genres. If you have not yet watched their legendary performance at the Live Aid concert, I would highly recommend it. Live Aid was a charity concert broadcast worldwide. Queen was not on the original bill to perform, but they ended up stealing the show.
They used effects. It wasn't "raw." You'd be surprised how you can tweak a voice, just using a microphone. And if Auto Tune had existed, they would have used it.
Just out of curiosity what exactly are these effects your speaking of, because microphones in the 70s and the 80s didnt have any effects that boosted the singers vocals in anyway, in fact, they didnt even have pitch control back then nevermind anything else, so unless your talking about echo effects, or other similar nonsense, that wouldn't help a singers technique one bit, im not sure what your talking about.
Freddie was unique and simply unforgettable. Queen's music will always live on and inspire generations. But please also check out the version “Somebody to Love (HD Remastered) (The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert)”. For me the absolute best version of this song. George was so good and he sang it for Fredy without copying him, just perfect.
The beer on the piano belongs to the bass player John Deacon. The cups are for Freddie - it's tea only! ;) The quality of this recording is so superb, because it was recorded for movie theatres! Queen was so huge back then, that they toured the whole world and to those who couldn't make it to a sold-out live show could watch a concert a the local theatre. < i've been there: imagine Queen fans only in a room with Queen on the big screen + the big sound! < this was a concert party for sure! :)
There is no voice like Freddy's. He was and he still is the best singer of all time. I'm blessed I lived in time that he and the Queen conquered the World 🌎
You asked about why he likes his partial microphone stand. According to the stories I've heard, early on in his career he was adjusting a microphone and the lower part of the stand collapsed leaving him holding the microphone and the upper part of the stand. He just kept performing and quickly discovered he could use it as a prop when performing on the stage. After that first performance he found someone to help develop a new microphone that would work for him and it was his signature after that point. He could use it in so many ways and as his primary goal was to interact with the audience it became a huge part of his performance.
So Queen has been around since the late 60’s early 70’s. I saw them live in 1976 and they are outrageously great. It’s Freddie mercury front man, brian May is the guitarist, John deacon in bass and Roger Taylor on drums. I’m 64 and they are a band I grew up with. They really were one of a kind. Yes, Freddie’s vocals are seriously richeous! Love seeing new generations discover them. Story about brian’s guitar, his dad made it. There is no other like it and it is played, HARD. I love this reaction.
You are my favorite music commentators. You are commenting on music of my generation (I’m 70+) and your joy and appreciation of it makes me happy. I really enjoy listening to you both. Keep up the great work.
One of my favorite things to do is watch young generations listen to the greats. Every single one is blown away. From the musicians, singers, and yes cameramen, they were literally creating brand new sounds and sights. They didn’t have cell phones or tablets to distract them or computers to enhance their voice for that matter. I like a lot of new artists but this is different. It’s all natural talent, hours of work, and playing gigs in tiny bars until you’re discovered. The awe in your faces was priceless. I had to sub.
@@kathleenhayes9320 This Montreal performance was in fact 24th November 1981, 10 years to the day until 24th Novemeber 1991 so the original post is 100% accurate & no correction needed. BUT thanks for letting the world know you are an American woman. 😘
This is an outstanding peformance by the entire band. Thank you. During a performance the Mic and stand came loose from the base. being a true professional, Freddie just went on as though nothing had happened. He decided that it made a good prop and he like it so for the rest of his career he used the baseless mike stand. If you watch more videos of him, you will see him using it like an air guitar and other sometimes unsavory things. The Drummer is Roger Taylor who is also a great singer.
I'm glad you are finding this awesome band. The movie has a lot of fill-in information leading up to the Live Aid concert. You both seem to like the guitar Stevie Ray Vaughn is a must and Eddie Van Halen. Def Leppard is great for crisp sound and excellent drums, guitars, and vocals. I never hear anyone react to it, but Shaver, that's the band, and the song is "I'm Going To Georgia on a Fast Train." It's got a father and son that play together. JACKYL, David Bowie! So many! God Bless.
the stand was difficult to adjust in one of his earlier shows so he yanked it apart realising he could move with more freedom on stage and it became his signature. John Taylor is the drummer. Freddie had a great passion for opera, he sang a song titled Barcelona in 1987 with opera star Montserrat Caballe which was featured in the 1992 Summer Olympics after his untimely death.
Roger Taylor, drummer and he also plays other instruments. A couple of years ago, he did a tour called The Outsider Tour. Roger and Freddie were very close, the whole band were close. Roger has five children. When Freddie Mercury was still alive, he asked his advice what to name their next child, Freddie Mercury said, if it's a girl, name her Tigerlily, if it's a boy name him Tiger. Roger and his wife had a boy and named him Rufus Tiger Taylor. Even after Freddie's death, Rodger named his next child, a girl, Tigerlily. I saw Queen and Adam Lambert 5 times in 2023. Each show is better than the last and they pay a beautiful tribute to Freddie Mercury. The band also includes, Spike Edney, he has been with them since 1984. Neil Fairclough and Tyler Warren. Rufus Tiger performed alongside his father, percussionist for a few years. There is a documentary called, "The Show Must Go On, The Queen and Adam Lambert Story"
Shout out to Roger Taylor ,his drumming is the heartbeat of Queen &his vocals are nothing short of amazing. Subbed on the back of this reaction, keep going with Queen their earlier stuff from the 70s is rocking & brilliant ❤❤❤❤
His mic stand isn’t “broken”, it’s just his “signature style” within his performances. I’ve watched a couple of ur videos reacting to Freddie, & Queen as a whole (love the reactions btw!! 🌟)- But as you’ve seen, he parades around the stage w/ the mic & 1/2 stand in his hands as both a theatrical aspect and also as a way for him to channel his energy through his various movements…and sometimes the imitation of a guitar or manly parts. He was a unique artist n performer with an amazing voice and talent for music, but the half stand w/ the mic is part of his trademark since no one else did that before or since. Keep making those videos of yours- I very much enjoy them! 🎉
Awesome performance by the entire group. How amazing not only to have a stellar front man, but Brian (lead guitar) and Roger (drummer) with excellent voices. Freddie once said that only dogs could hear Roger's highest notes. 🤣
Doing a great job guys! This 2 night concert was filmed by a film crew in a new format called Mobile Vision which was supposed to rival IMAX. That is why it is so good. Go back to my post on your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction and you will get information on all the band members. They are fascinating if you dig a little and read up on them. If you want to hear some amazing harmonies go listen to the studio version of this song. A different take on this track.
I love Queen and Freddie Mercury is the best of the best . No one ever comes close to him . His an icon a legend and mesmerising. RIP my beautiful Freddie ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great reaction guys. I was 20 in 1981, but sadly never got to see Queen live. You were talking about how Freddie's breath control. If it's something you'd like to learn, just search something like 'breath control exercises for singers'. If you practice enough your muscles will learn to do it without you even thinking about it.
The broken mic stand was his statement. It came apart on one of his first gigs with the band and he just went with it…..and the rest…..they say….is history.😁
I'm a 58 year old canadian whitey. lol (see Bill Burr) Queen has been my favorite band since I first heard We will rock/we are the champions. I was 11. The vocalist is "Freddie Mercury". Back in young school days he might be addressed as "Farookh Bulsara" his birth name. Check out a live performance by them, the tune "White Queen" from Live at the Rainbow 1974. Check out how heavy they can get and then reel it back in. Every guy in the band is University Educated and then some, plus they are all virtuoso musicians that came together at the right time. For their age and their vision took them to history in the R&R minds of all those lovers of great music. Zep, Floyd, Sabbath, Rush, Yes, Santana there were just soooooooooooooooooooo many great bands that came out in my love of a certain time of music. 1965-1980.

But please also check out the version “Somebody to Love (HD Remastered) (The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert)”. For me the absolute best version of this song. George was so good and he sang it for Fredy without copying him, just perfect.
Freddie Mercury is a legend.
Lead guitar: Sir Brian May
Drums: Roger Taylor
Bass: John Deacon
All talented! Great reaction, guys ❤
The beer on the piano belongs to the bass player John Deacon. The cups are for Freddie - it's tea only! ;)
The quality of this recording is so superb, because it was recorded for movie theatres!
I'm blessed I lived in time that he and the Queen conquered the World 🌎
Freddy Mercury, greatest front man EVER !
There will never be another Freddie , pure talent ❤❤
You asked about why he likes his partial microphone stand. According to the stories I've heard, early on in his career he was adjusting a microphone and the lower part of the stand collapsed leaving him holding the microphone and the upper part of the stand. He just kept performing and quickly discovered he could use it as a prop when performing on the stage. After that first performance he found someone to help develop a new microphone that would work for him and it was his signature after that point. He could use it in so many ways and as his primary goal was to interact with the audience it became a huge part of his performance.
One of my favorite Queen songs
If i had a time machine and could go back to any point in the history of the world, I would go back to Montreal in 1981 to see this concert.
It was a small crowd (for them ) 18,000 peeps. In 1981 they played in rio de janeiro for 2 nights 600,000 watched those concerts
John Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals).
John Freddie?? I don't think I know that guy! 😀
Sir Dr Brian May is the curly haired lead guitarist. He has a PhD in astrophysics and was also knighted
Do you mean Farrokh Bulsara, stage name Freddie Mercury?
So Queen has been around since the late 60’s early 70’s. I saw them live in 1976 and they are outrageously great. It’s Freddie mercury front man, brian May is the guitarist, John deacon in bass and Roger Taylor on drums. I’m 64 and they are a band I grew up with. They really were one of a kind. Yes, Freddie’s vocals are seriously richeous! Love seeing new generations discover them. Story about brian’s guitar, his dad made it. There is no other like it and it is played, HARD. I love this reaction.
Michael Jackson LOVED Freddie Mercury and Queen. He loved to see them live.
Nothing you can watch on line will ever compare to a real live concert, do yourselves a favor and start attending. Well worth it.
You are my favorite music commentators. You are commenting on music of my generation (I’m 70+) and your joy and appreciation of it makes me happy. I really enjoy listening to you both. Keep up the great work.
❤ Love 💕 watching you guy’s discover Queen & the magic they left us with. RIP Freddie. There can be only one.
I love you boys reacting to the greats keep it up! Learn about great music
Thank you! Will do!
Freddie Mercury great performer. Sadly missed.RIP Freddie.
This was 10 years to the day & we'd lose him - 24th Nov 1981
Correction November 24th 1991
I am so Happy to see young people go back in time with 1 of the Best Bands in the World. God Bless You Guys.
I believe the reason that started though was because one time the mic stand DID break and then after that it became his signature thing :)
Awesome performance by the entire group. How amazing not only to have a stellar front man, but Brian (lead guitar) and Roger (drummer) with excellent voices. Freddie once said that only dogs could hear Roger's highest notes. 🤣
Drummer is Roger Taylor. Tall guy Brian May on Guitar. Short curly hair guy is John Deacon. And Freddie Mercury lead singer, musician.
Freddie was a very unique person he did work tirelessly to perform at such a high level glad you can appreciate real talent whole band is amazing
The red guitar ["Red Special"] was hand made by Brian May [the guitarist] and his dad.
This is my all time favorite Queen song❤
me too!🎉
Roger Taylor's drumming and backing vocals are epic.
Awesome job on the reaction. Keep up the good work.
Freddie Mercury ❤❤❤❤❤
You two are just adorable, nice guys. Stay that way.
I love Queen and Freddie Mercury is the best of the best . No one ever comes close to him . His an icon a legend and mesmerising. RIP my beautiful Freddie ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Freddie and Montserrat Caballe - Barcelona...Live - he blows everyone away.
All members are brilliant.. Roger Taylor's light soft part vocally and playing the drummes.. Yes Thanks Sr
Freddie was
One of the best performers and singers ever!!!
You are seeing what a band should be. Talent!!!!!
The broken mic stand was his statement. It came apart on one of his first gigs with the band and he just went with it…..and the rest…..they say….is history.😁
If you don’t already know, the lead guitarist was knighted by Queen Elizabeth just before she passed away.
Queen could sell out the biggest stadiums around the world. Freddy top tier vocalist.
GREATEST BAND EVAH!!!!!❤
Thank you 🙏 for finding these songs from my youth.
My first concert as a kid! Queen was AMAZING!!!
So many great musicians. True artists that were passionate about creating artistic performance and music that reaches down into your soul.
Pls play some more Queen. Freddie Mercury ❤❤❤ never will be forgotten.😢
Don't you mean 1965 thru 1987 to include Freddie's last songs as Queen? They were the biggest in their 80s tours !
@@susancooper3111 You're absoluyely right. I feel shame lol. cheers from canada
Freddie said he'd be a legend, and judging by the fact that we are here talking about him decades later, he was right!
Makes my heart smile to see and hear these young men “discover” one of the greatest bands and voices ever! 😊
Very first concert I attended in my life. I was 15 at the time. What an awesome show it was!
You guys make it all fun again! I first heard Queen in 1973... You guys are so cool. Thank you!
React to Another One Bites the Dust.
Any version will do. You will realize you have probably heard it before. It was their biggest #1 in the US.
Freddie ad a GOD GIVEN GOSPEL VOICE, Roger Taylor beautiful voice too ❤
Freddie was one of the best singers in history of the human race. He didn’t need production or auto tune.
Powerful and clear voice of an angel
Great reactions! Thank you!
Love your reactions. You are picking up everything even the camera work. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
The crowd was his favorite instrument to play
Absolutely love this song.
All us queen fans suggest wearing headphones. Whole new sound . Please please use them. Love you guys
