    I watched all of your videos on this several times. I decided to buy this based on your videos. The quality to price ratio on this thing is just unbelievable. Basically, it has good sounding versions of a bunch of effects that cost more individually than this this unit with everything. Thank you. You saved me a lot of money buying individual effects!

    Thank you for the awesome 3 videos you've done for a pedal I can actually afford. Very useful and informative, as are all your videos. You are the Katsunori Ujie of the guitar pedals!

    I'm normally not into digital multi effect units, but I have to admit this would be a great addition to my pedal board. In a cover band, sometimes one needs a specific effect and this would be perfect. No need to go buy a boutique analog stompbox just for one effect you need on that one song. You've sold me Burgs!

    I have had this pedal for many years and it is an awesome utility box to have. I have been using it at concerts halls, as well as small bar gigs etc. I will admit that it doesn’t “feel” like a real analog effects pedal sound-wise, but it can come pretty close. I put in on the top of my amp so I can switch sounds manually. It is never on the floor unless I use it as a single sound to switch on and of with my chain.

    I actually bought one of these largely due to your great demo. It really is an amazing piece for the price. I use it for effects that I don't use often, like a univibe, which sounds pretty damn good, instead of buying expensive pedals to sit in the closet. Thanks Brett for as always, a great review, Cheers!

    Yep. Paul is someone whom I've been lucky to spend time with (after I acquired that guitar). He's a fantastic, generous, enlightening bloke and I regard myself lucky to have shared some hours with him. The guitars his company build are second to none in terms of construction and sound. Even the Fender clones I have custom built by VERY great luthiers around the world can't meet the standards that Paul's company have achieved. I'm lucky indeed to be part of their roster. 11/10.

    In 1997 I used to play bass in a metal band through a Zoom 506. The guitar players used to play through their 505's. They were the first affordable units that sounded cool for the price they had. I'm amazed of how much has Zoom improved their products. Maybe I'll buy the bass version of this pedal, just to decrease the size of my live rig.

    This sounds way too good to be true for the price and ease of use. I never thought of Zoom as a top quality effects manufacturer but this pedal really sounds awesome. I'll definitely consider purchasing one.

    Thank you very much Brett. The only reason I haven't bought one of these is because I was worried that I couldn't use it like a stomp box; so I could turn the effects on and off when I work live. Great video. I'll get one and give it a try; at 65 I'm not real tech savvy.

    Hi Brett, great videos about this pedal. I bought mine almost as a joke because was 40% off... I'm very surprised because sounds great no matter in wich part of my pedal chain is located. One of the best pedal I ever had, lots of things you can use.
    Love the delays an modulations. Regards!

    I bought the MG-50G after seeing this video (thanks Brett!) and was pleasantly surprised to see a V3.0 firmware update for it just this week, providing another whole bunch of new effects. Zoom also have provided a Windows & Mac app for editing effects on the pedal. I'm excited to try it all out!

    • @zoomosis
      @zoomosis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update: The Effect Manager app is just for selecting which effects are enabled on the pedal, because evidently there now seems to be an upper limit of the number effects made available, which is a bit odd. Unfortunately you're still not able to edit patches with a PC. I wonder if this is possible in an undocumented way, because the MS-50G appears to the PC as a MIDI device. Oh well, never mind. The extra effects provided with the 3.0 firmware update are all great, and maybe deserve a review on their own!

    I just bought a used G5 in excellent condition and I have a G9 .2 TT that is getting fixed right now that I love. I think Zoom is ahead of the game when it comes to those two bottles and these MS models. Boss and the others better step up a notch because here comes Zoom!!!
    Not to mention the fact that they had tubes in their multi affects G series but now there's no two in the new one that's the only call my have with less effects and less amp modelers, i'm sure though get back on track after the release of the G5n.

    I bought a Zoom G3 a couple of years back, just because it was cheap and it looked interesting.
    Totally blown away by Zoom's sound quality. Much better than previous PODs I've had - and much better than the Tech21 emulation pedals (I so wanted to like them, but just didn't).

    and you can put the line SEL anywhere the chain, too, so you can have effects chains that you can turn partially on or off. I haven't messed with it much since I play pretty simple but its a nice option to have.

    Nice Demo Series Burgs. They have been around a long time, I still have my ZOOM 9030...... got be about 27 years old. Because of your demo I upped the firmware in my Zoom G3 and now have a 6 effect chain (was 3) same as MS50-G. As if the G3 wasn't small enough they made it a single pedal, clever bastards those Zoom people.

    With regards to bypass (MarkDally and others...) That's what the 'LineSel' module is for. (I thought I made this clear in the vid - obviously not...) It's a line selector, which, if placed in the first of a possible 6 effects positions (or modules or whatever you want to call them) will bypass everything or anything after it. I've tested the bypass; it's not 'true bypass', it's a buffered bypass. And the buffer is as good or better than many others I've experienced. No complaints from me.

    I started as a metal player some years ago, but now I like to play a wide variety of different styles ranging from jazz and folk to extreme metal. And I really don't have that much money, so I'm looking for something that's max 500 euros and this seems to be the ideal pedal. I can find used Blues Jr's that suit my price range, so I thought that this one with a good clean amp would be enough, since essentially I only need a clean tone and a distorted tone and this has effects on top of that.

  • @BrettKingman
    @BrettKingman  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks David. I hear you re the size observation. The crazy thing is that the size of these machines is usually determined by the controllers and/or jacks (sooo 20th Century). The brain is in the chip, and the chip is not very big at all. The input jacks alone are probably 4-5 times as big as the chip.

  • @williammolina9792

    With that amplifier i would use it's own distortion. And use the modulations of the pedal throw the loop effect of the amplifier.

    Excellent demo thanks........ and also Parts 1 & 2. Could you possibly explain how you'd use the Line Select, Patch Alpha Select and Tuner in a "live" situation? It seems to me that I can't do all 3 but if I could the MS-50G would be a great gigging tool.

    Hmmmm still not very clear, so I create a patch with effects in it right ? example, chorus, delay and tremolo, and I put this line selector in front so I can bypass the whole thing ? ok but lets say I want just chorus for a song and delay in another, how do I change the patch without having to bend down to touch the controls ?

    Brett, love your reviews. I ordered my ms50g after watching your videos some 12 times. I hope Zoom does acknowledge your work. I have been a fan since getting the G2.1NU and there weren't any reviews this awesome for that pedal. Any chance you'll review any Pigtronix pedals? I have an Aria and Philosophers tone, I think you would dig them.

      Hey, thanks for the kind words. Mine is a labour of love; one which I'm trying to improve on continuously. Pigtronix pedals: I'd love to demo some of their stuff but I'm not sure they're interested in my services as they probably have enough stateside based demo-people. But we never know what the future holds, do we? Cheers, have a great new year.

    Actually, can I ask a question? I'm currently using a Peavey 6505+112 and I have to say that I don't like it since it isn't versatile at all. So now I got an idea of changing it to a Fender Blues Junior and buying this pedal. Do you think that this would be even a remotely good idea? It would surely add convenience and versatility to my rig. Thanks in advance.

    @khargrar 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. I love Joe faraldi's comment about you being able to make a slice of pizza sound good. I agree with that. I have a question about the way to program this baby : you can program the recall order of patches that you store in a list as 'A', 'B', 'C', etc... but can you program several different lists, store them and use one or the other (like one for each song) ???

  • @BrettKingman
    @BrettKingman  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 6505's fundamental reason for being is to rock and rock hard. Versatility was not its main design criteria. If you're looking for versatility you might want to consider a very clean amp like a '65 RI Twin, Super-Sonic, Laney VH100R or a HIWATT Custom... there are others; and get some decent pedals to do the dirty work. This pedal will cover many bases - not all - but can be used without an amp (because it simulates many) if need be. Will the audience be able to tell the difference? Hmmm...

  • @damosurfer
    @damosurfer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The modulations sound great, and it takes the distortion in front like a champ. Sadly its own distortions sound terrible to me... mostly. Some are OK, but the fizz factor just about kills most of them for me. Very artificial. Nevertheless it's a great box even if just for the modulations! Thanks for the demos Brett.

    these are probably the best video demos of a multi-effects pedal I've ever seen and heard on TH-cam yet, great work!
    I'm wondering though, do you have any of the real analog stomp boxes that the Zoom simulates that you could do a direct side-by-side comparison to? For example a real Proco-Rat vs. the Squeak/Rat simulation on the Zoom, either direct or in front of an amp, etc. Been looking for videos that does direct comparison between the digital simulations on multi-effect pedals and the real thing but have yet to find any.

    I enjoy your videos but you didn't really show whether it can be used as a regular stomp box. Nobody has time to press buttons during a live show. What I wanted to know is whether can it can go from delay>delay and octave>delay by stomping it on and off.

    • @BrettKingman
      @BrettKingman  10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It can do as you wish but you'd have to store your different combinations of effects and whether they're on or off in one of the 50 preset slots, and then use it Preset or memory mode. Please consult the downloadable manual for further info.

      theres many modes, so u can turn singles on/off, with one stomp, multiples on/off single stomp, some can stay on while some can be on/off single stomp, u can setup to ... say bounce between 2 presets single stomp, scroll designated patches 123456123456 ect, this pedal can do many modes, easier to use than u think. i use 3 on my board, one pre tube amp input, second thru series effects loop, third thru parallel effects loop. first is noise reduction always on, and overdrive on/off, second is noise reduction and eq always on, exciter and chorus on/off, third is firstly line selector with volume at zero, stomp delay set page 2 to stereo, but only use one output (right) into hall reverb, killing dry signal so doesnt screw with phasing while using parallel loop, the on/off is line selector, adding the wet delay/verb, or muting parallel loop. holding switch down set to tap tempo for delay. 3 stomps, total control. anyone can be held to mute and give tuner aswell. without these pedals, i would need 10 singles, these things are worth more than priced. really.

    • @minus9us677
      @minus9us677 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      to answer ur question, yes it can do delay>delay and octave>delay with single stomp. just need to set it. best part is no need to save. when u unplug it, it remembers everything. dont think ive ever actually saved a patch or went to diffrent presets. just set it up as swiss armyknives. no hassle. cheers

      You can put LineSel at the start of a chain and it acts as an on off; putting it later in the chain acts as an on/off for whatever follows it.
      Alternatively you can label a number of patches from A-Z and stomp through them sequentially, so pairing an effect with an empty "Thru" slot 'A-B' is another way - Switch to the tuner in muted mode to silence everything!

      +Sin sin sinner From what I've heard the main differences are merely the Bluetooth capability, and a few extra cabs.I asked the same; haven't heard of the 100 sounding 'more digital'.

      I dont know why wrote that I have two 100s and find there are NOT digital sounding

      Sin sin sinner appreciate your response. My 50g will be here in a day or so, I can't wait to try it out.
      I still wish I knew the differences between the 50 and the 100 other than BT.

    You can't really. You'd need to stick in the amp's effects loop if it has one.

    How does the Pandora Stomp compare to the MS-50G?
    Thanks!

      @wonderlust3529 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +John Kiene This seems to be a question many are asking. I know you asked a year ago, so by now you could be off slaying polar bears in Africa. I got my hands on a Pandora for playing-it seems to concentrate on emulating the sounds from specific songs (Master of Puppets, Aenima, Smoke on the Water, etc.), but in terms of individuality, I didn't see it shine like zoom usually does. My Zoom RFX-100 couldn't be touched, and I've found they really put their balls into their work. I'm getting the 50 tomorrow. Haven't gotten my hands on it, but I DO know the Pandora seemed awkward and even the clerk had to spend a half hour getting it to function. Who knows, maybe this thing is complicated, too, but I DO know product name *does* matter in the world of music. Korg never really impressed me, whereas Zoom certainly did. Top tier performance in the studio from my RFX, so I'm expecting the same from this puppy.Can update per requests. I don't expect disappointment, and look forward to the Rat.

      Jensen Bell Yeah no problem. I have the 50, and it's really sweet. I won't look at a distortion pedal the same. OR an FX rack.
      It's crazy where we've come.

    This actually looks like a pedal you could use in a practical situation, like a gig....

  • @sebastianmartinsson8243
    @sebastianmartinsson8243 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that you cant turn the entire pedal into bypass if you are using multiple effects. That's a big problem if you are going to use it live...

    • @sagnier
      @sagnier 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sebastian Martinsson you can in fact do this, and it's remarkably simple.

    • @sebastianmartinsson8243
      @sebastianmartinsson8243 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sagnier Are you referring to the line selector? But lets say I want to use the patch scroller and then turn effects on and off from there.
      The pedal is great anyway. It's worth it just for the modulation effects imo :)

    • @sagnier
      @sagnier 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would create an 'empty' patch in that case, and simply insert it wherever it was required in the sequence.
      And I agree- the pedal is excellent. There's simply nothing else that comes close in terms of flexibility and usefulness at this price (or any price really!).

    Changing patch to patch and back is a big issue with this unit

    • @-Pol-
      @-Pol- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't found this to be such an issue; there's a feature that assigns any patch a position from A-Z and the pedal cycles through the sequence with each stomp of the foot. You can't reverse through the sequence but you can copy or modify a duplicate patch and assign it a letter later in the sequence - I just reserve a few patch slots as a sandbox for such maneuvers.

    Dealbreaker: no headphones output. :(

    • @makeahalo
      @makeahalo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There aren't many effect pedals with headphone outputs, it's not a common feature at all. You could connect something like an Electro-Harmonix pocket amp (with headphone out) after a pedal though, if that helps :)
