I have been a hobbyist for a long time.
I can miss my college lectures but not your model railway 101 Sessions...
Great summary of basic tools for people starting out. It looks like I passed the test without the class as I have every tool listed. I only just got a mitre saw, but don't laugh, I built my last 10x18' layout with only two power tools, a sabre saw and a cordless drill. Really! If you are very careful, you can use the sabre saw to cut wood in all kinds of ways.
It's true - you can do a lot with a little; but nothing is better than having the right tool for a job!
The NPR of model railroading.
The right tools make any kind of modeling much more fun. And, I am one of those that has an N scale layout on a door.

Excellent video. I ordered a pin vice bit set a few weeks ago because I saw Dan use is EXTENSIVELY during the famous SD40-2 Snoot Santa Fe build series. (which was an AMAZING in-depth look at detailing)
May I suggest buying multiples of the #70,72,74 bits. They will break very easily if not careful. If you have a variable speed Dremel, you can buy the bit adapter to make drilling the holes easier.
Any favored sources where I could pick up those bits in numbers and the Dremel adapter. I do have a trusty Dremel that i've had for ages.

Also don't try and drive screws with a drill. Not meant for it. Get an impact driver for screws.

I want to get into DCC for my N scale DC layout, which is small, I watched the DC and DCC video for beginners, I think i'm going to use Digitrax for my layout but how do you make or set up a programming track for your DCC locomotives. If you guys haven't done a video on making a programming track, I think it will help a lot of people program there locomotive without frying it.
if UR STARTING OUT AND GETTING DCC SYS. I WOULD HAVE GONE WITH NCE WHICH IS A LOT MORE USER FRIENDLY. WHERE DIGITRAX U CAN RUN MORE BUT NOT USER FRIENDLY I HAVE DIGITRAX I FIND IT VERY CONFUSING I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT NCE.

The best advice I have ever seen given on this topic is to go with whatever your friends and colleagues have so that you have someone to help you when you run up against a problem. If you do not have any friends and colleagues who do this kind of stuff, research them yourself and choose the one you like best.
