When a trainset almost 70 years old, was better than the one that runs today

I reckon to lure people back to travel once covid is over they should try and introduce some of the luxury service and old fashioned styles of bygone eras. I'd be way more likely to do a train tour if I knew I'd get to experience something like this.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has acquired several of the California Zephyr Vista Domes and cars.

In those days, ladies were well-turned out: They wore dresses, hats and gloves. A different time, truly. One other thing, REALLY important: The African American men who staffed these trains (waiters, kitchen staff, porters) made a good living (remember this was during the Jim Crow days). Those were sought-after, plum jobs. I personally knew one family whose Dad worked on that train: Over the years he worked, Mr. Davis was able to put his sons and daughter through college, finance his wife's small beauty shop. Then later - retire and buy a lovely home, down in South Carolina.

And trains were customized to their different lines. Now the Claude is zephyr train is just Amtrak. There’s no more colors anymore

I hate flying, but I flew to Denver more than once to ride the Rio Grand Zephyr remnant of the CZ because it is the most scenic ride in the country. And the train still carried a full dinner and dome lounge.

Why did the westbound Vistadome California Zephyr go from Chicago to San Francisco from 3:00 to 20:52?

Oh to turn the clock back and ride the California zephyr. I wonder if Amtrak runs that route today? Sad to think how San Francisco so beautiful then has turned into a cesspool today. Very sad. It makes me laugh to see the ladies all dressed up in the men wearing suits. How times of changed.

Funny how people would get dressed up every day for this train ride like in the early days of air travel. Now baggy sweats, see through tights and baseball hats are the norm. Geesh!
