    I waited at the till when I first went shopping here thinking someone was coming, it wasn’t until all my grocery was there in a pile in one corner that I realized I was alone, I didn’t even have a bag so that also was a shock to me. The stupid thing though i wasn’t the only one confused , the til operator was too. She must have thought I was stupid really because she asked me something a couple of times and because I had just arrived in the country visiting my language skills were limited. I was saved by a nice lady who spoke struggle speaking in English but explained that I needed to buy a bag or bring one from home, I got the bag and just knew what to do then after but this really was not only a culture shock for me but also a very embarrassing moment😅

    Germans to me are well discipline as I listen to you unpacking these culture shocks. The hardest and difficult one in my view is the grocery one I share your sentiments imagine if someone is behind you but you'll adjust Cindy. You have very understanding and supportive hubby ❤ you're so blessed. I am mother and granny retired already.

    yea, the stare might be the weirdest for many people. but its good you have already figured out that it mostly has to do with curiosity, not so much with something like disrespect or any worse. gotta say, a few friends from london visited me once and on our first train ride we were like not that quite and of course obviously speaking a foreign language. also there was a girl who had long curly hair dyed red, so vocally and visibly we did not try to keep bein unnoticed, and in fact multiple people were constantly watching us for about 10 minutes or so. i can definitely imagine how weird that might be to strangers at first glance.
    oh and yes, grocery shopping is not really about comfort, its rather about speed round here. i grew up with it so i was seriously surprised bout how it's working in the u.s. for instance. just makes it clear to anyone why walmart not even lasted a decade before retrieving from the german market^^
    cheers to the both of you :>

    • @sindypetronella
      @sindypetronella  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aah, I have figured it out and gotten used to it now . You right for those who are still new in Germany might find it abit uneasy with the stare.. I can imagine you guys talking alil louder (Germans don’t like noise) and you speaking English it’s quite intriguing for Germans…
      Oh yes speed speed everywhere here, customer service, walking , shopping lol time is money in Germany 😅. I still get nervous if I have a lot of groceries 🙈

    Sindy I am with you with the grocery shopping .I would panic myself, being South African we are so used to somebody packing for us . That being said experiencing a different culture is just awesome , enjoy it dear ❤️and when South Africans says they will call you now now , they are just being modest .Expect the call within an hour or even later 😂😂but I still have mega love for my people ...❤️🇿🇦

    Now all these are a shock to me lol. 😂😂 About the grocery I think we're are like South Africans, in Kenya we don't pack our own stuffs. Punctuality in my country does not exist.🤣 The fifth point I could never get used to it.🙌 We only have one type of bread here. 😂 I feel like Germany is a totally different world on its own. 😁 Thank you loves for sharing this with us. 🤍 Team Mega Love we love you.🤍

      Hahah I’m glad I’m not alone with these shocks. Germany is quite special for sure 😅, with punctuality in Kenya I remember people really take their precious time with everything 😂🤣 Just like in South Africa.. Same the only bread I grew up with it’s the four cornered bread & I’m not going to call it toast bread unless toasted 🤣😅

    ❤️.😂. In Poland, we also have many types of bread, as in Germany.
    In big groceries even here in Poland we have identical situation. I found out from a friend who works in such a grocery, so I think that in Germany they have the same system, cashiers are controlled all the time how fast they work. Groceries have standards and employees have to respect them. Personally, I do not like and will never get used to such a rush. I lay out the products on the conveyor belt at my own pace and pack them into the nets also in peace.

    • @sindypetronella
      @sindypetronella  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahhhh that’s new to me , cashiers being controlled how fast they are hmmm… awww now I need to try your bread 🤗😍.
      I should try this do it with my own pace and less anxiety 😅

    • @NotUnymous
      @NotUnymous 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hooooo, cashiers aren't controlled in Germany for their times - that sounds brutal tho 😅 In Germany you often wait a long time to get to the cashier so it's more like a feeling of respect for the customer I think.
      At least in my schooltime-job as a cashier it was something like this - could have changed tho.
      As a customer I just dont want to make the other wait even longer - therefore I help out to fasten the process.

    Hello Sindy here in the USA, We have a store called Aldi there you have to put a quarter in the cart to use it but once you put the grocery cart back your money is returned to you. Now our regular grocery stores they scan groceries and bag them for you. It’s not bad. But I understand what you are saying. Thanks for sharing! Much love from VA♥️

    The comfort with nudity was also a shocker for me! At the Fkk beaches qhen you are biking along the Danube River there are certain nature areas where nudity is allowed . Must say though that in the Saunas one must take a towel and sit on the towel (at least here in Vienna).
    Just imagine, I learnt that being on time in Japan means 15 mins before the agreed time! Wow!
    I have a question and that is " is it a German thing not to eat ham or bacon for breakfast ?"

    • @sindypetronella
      @sindypetronella  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaah Fkk Never heard of it will try to have look cause I’m curious now 😅
      Yeah saunas here are pretty much the same, if you have to have a towel to sit on / I must say some people to cover.
      WHAT? 15 mins before agreed time that’s new to me now.
      Hubby just said in German hotels and households love eating different kinds of ham (Serrano, Parma, Schwarzwälder,…) & bacon with all kinds of egg styles. But surely there is also a movement of young people to eat vegan, bowles, smoothies..

  • @NotUnymous
    @NotUnymous 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Sindy, welcome to Hamburg :-)
    Quick info on "why to be naked in a german Sauna": Hygene.
    If you feel uncomfortable, some Saunas have women-only-days - perhaps that would make it easier for you (Kaifu-Lodge for example each tuesday).

    • @NotUnymous
      @NotUnymous 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ps: stares.
      Its difficulte to generalize it but me and my friends do stare. Well, we try not too but it's... happening.
      Be asured, at least for us it is just curiosity. Like: whats this dress. Is she a foreigner (not negativly ;-)), whats that for an accents, nice shoes, and so on.
      Clearly, with a stunner like you, you'll also have some "woah what a beauty"-lost-in-thought-stares like your Boyfriend mentioned 😅🙈
      And yes, sadly racism exist in Germany too.
      But as far as I know Hamburg is after Bremen the least racist area (AfD polls are at 5.4 % and as a port city with the nickname "Tor zur Welt" we always had lots of foreigner living and working together with us).

  • @TheGosinho

    For me punctuality is a quastion about respect. If you have an appointment or meeting etc and come too late, you waste my time. I have better things to do than waiting for you. I organize myself to be punctual and expect the same vice versa... In buisness it is also a quastion about your professionality. If you are not able to be punctual, what should that say to me about your professionality?
