I refuse to believe that a channel with this much style and such well made content is going so unseen on TH-cam. Props to you dude, all of this stuff is great.
Something I noticed when playing through Somari last year is that Star Light Zone... is kinda good actually. It pulls off multiple paths fairly well, and even has rewards for maintaining speed in some spots, like being able to skip over dangerous areas through high speed platforming. It works with the controls too, which isn't always the case with Somari level design. The usual issues with the game are still present, but I feel Hummer Team's Star Light deserves some credit.
Another great and curious video. I always loved those cartridges with hundreds of pirated games when I was younger, they always seemed sort of magical like the games were from an alternate dimension. Great video as always thanks for continuing to show me stuff I wouldn't have otherwise.
When my beloved aspect ratio strikes again :0!!! Bang up job on this one! Seeing as I'm playing through Mania right now, it's great to know how far back his roots really go and see what sorta bountiful harvests the Hedgehog has produced since then. In some abstract, cosmic way, Sonic was the progenitor of not only ROM history but mods as well. I guess this more or less confirms he now is the daddy of Nexus Mods and it confirms we're living in the best timeline. What a blessed day, and video and wow. Wow. WOW.
I just stumbled upon this video. Thank you for not straying into the usual clickbait content that TH-camrs have used when playing bootleg games. I honestly think so many of these games, despite their quality, deserve some appreciation for the efforts that their creators went to to make them function the way they do.
This video honestly gave me an appreciation for not only this, but other bootlegs made in countries where owning the "big" consoles was a near-impossibility.
One hack of Somari I enjoyed a lot is "Talui" which changes Somari for his trusty sidekick brother Talui, and gives the game some new graphic assets making it look more "3D" and also new level designs.
I loved renting it to play with my siblings on our Famicom, you could choose between Mario and Luigi or Sonic and Red Sonic. Later when we got a Sega we thought it was the same game but without Mario and Luigi :(
Sonic fan projects do *not* have Sega's blessing. The Retro Engine was not a "fan project" like all of the others. It was a product that was pitched to Sega and licensed by them. It's a completely different situation legally and does not mean anything for any other fan projects. Sega turns a blind eye to the fan projects for the same reason they turned a blind eye to the bootlegs: they aren't a threat to their business. Also, can I ask where you got that footage of Jing Ke Xin Zhuan? It looks very different from other (granted, very limited) footage I am seeing elsewhere.
It's not mentioned here, but Dendy is obviously not an original thing, it's basically just rebranded Micro Genius famiclones, made by a devision of TXC corporation
Calling this the first Sonic fan game isn't actually true, as one had been made by Umihara Kawase creater Kiyoshi Sakai in 1993 for the Sharp X68000, which was a very powerful computer at the time. th-cam.com/video/g-Jlv3z9tCw/w-d-xo.html

Thank you! Hopefully this will be a vid to get infront of more eyes :D
There are NO emeralds to collect in Somari but Eggman appears in the ending juggling them anyways
wanted to show off his skills

Never knew a small bootleg would have so much history behind it and would leave such a lasting legacy. Great video!
Watching Mario and Luigi beating the sh!t out of each other in what is, presumably, Bowser's Castle - it's too surreal.
Forced to do it for our enjoyment 😥
D:
They predicted Smash Bros?!?!?? 😳😳😳
me when *oh god no* :
they predicted the "I HATE YOU" creepypasta

No problem! Glad you enjoyed

Thanks! Appreciate the appreciation
The best part of Somari is the mid speed run cycle, hands down.
Ah, Titenic, the booziest of beat em' ups.
I remember this. I thought it was just a fan made flash game that someone made.
I just searched up a somari gameplay video and saw this video thumbnail and saw that the somari sprite is from mario's madness
Lol, in my country, Malaysia, the 100+ games have been changed to 64GB of rom hacks for cheap.
The subtle ray tube glow and chromatic aberration takes the presentation here to the next level. Excellent work mate.
Thank you! I always appreciate when someone notices the CRT effect haha

i like how you used somari sprite from mario's madness from the thumbnail :)
That’s what we call synergy 😌
pure thumbnail mindfuckery i thought it was the original thumbnail and said “hey wait Mario’s Madness got developed for 2 years early?”
7:20 OH GOD NO
Mario madness bring me here
Awesome bit of bootleg history!
Yes it was!
Why this video is so good?!
Wait.... why in the miniature are somari sprite for mario madness?
👀
MARIO SING AND GAME RYTHM 9 - Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness v2 OST
My favorite bootleg!

somari definitely could defeat both Mario ad Sonic
Absolute banger as always

Thank you!
Leaving a comment to remind youtube that this channel is worth recommending.
