  • This Pomegranate Bonsai started in 2016 from seed. It has lived nearly all its life as a bonsai tree in a little blue pot.
    It has been allowed to grow out, then chopped down. This video shows it being repotted in April 2019.

    I was wondering how you wintered your pomegranate trees. I've got seedlings that I planted in march that grew amazingly over the summer. I live in a USDA 7a area (lowest temp averages around -18C, and I was wondering if I could keep the pomegranates outside.

      i think thats too cold. i think some species can go to about 12c .. in the ground. so no way in a pot.
      probbaly a few degrees under zero will be fine. mine have reached that low and been okay
      I would just place them in a shed/garage/unheated greenhouse. ...bascially anywhere cold, but not like below -3c kind of thing.

      Thanks man. I decided a at the end of last year that I wanted to start youtubing, just been stock piling any footage since then. I wish I started years ago. I luckily started instgram and took a few pictures. When I first started I documented nothing!

      Thanks Kennet, I appreciate that. I also have some in a clump style which I am trying to fuse at the base. However, didn't use a fancy fusion plate like yourself, so hopefully I still get results similar to yours.

    Love the series! How often did you repot the tree/did rootwork on the tree prior to the repot shown at the beginning of the video?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers. It grew from seed late 2016. then went into that blue pot in of spring 2017. I imagine i give it it a little root prune then. ...then i have no records of spring 2018, but i imagine i also repotted and worked the roots. there is no way i would have kept it in that small pot for 2 years as its such an aggressive grower... then the video shows 2019.

    Pretty cool 😎 I got one over from Japan last year but it’s struggling to wake up this year :( also anytime I’m gonna eat now I’m gonna look look at my fork as a root comb lol 😝

      Thanks. They can sometimes be slow to get going, but once they do they normally go like rockets. I have a proper rake, but the fork is just so much better for some reason. Lol.

    Wow, I just planted some seeds this year.... How old was this tree when you did this? Didn’t you cut too much? Didn’t the tree got too much stress?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pomegranate are pretty hardcore. This tree is fine. Watch part 2 - th-cam.com/video/7Qz1-cLhiY8/w-d-xo.html you will see I cut it back hard, often.

    Hi. Love the series! Just wondering when did you cut the trunk between 2016 from the tall, lanky tree to the root work in 2019? I bought 3 trees recently that look similar to the one you showed in 2016.

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers, I will have just let it grow out all year. Then in late winter chopped it right back.... waited a few weeks until early spring and once the buds start to really swell and almost open i will have repotted it and done the root work.
      That is pretty much what ive done every year and im still doing now. It just that now i maybe prune it a few times throughout the year as well

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. It was just grown from a supermarket pom. so unless its some sort of genetic freak, it should just be a normal size

      @@BackGardenBonsai HaHa okay sounds good. Thanks again for the rapid response. About to drop a few tomorrow. I am curious about the way you winter these. Would be great if you could elaborate on lighting, temp etc. Thanks

      i think i cover it all in this www.backgardenbonsai.com/how-to-grow-bonsai-with-grow-lights/
      although i do also have one i just keep outside all year. so i just ignore that and nature does it it thing with it.

    I have a huge package of forks I use for food and bonsai. But really nice music. I know I cringe at my own voice. Are you going to consider doing half and half with voice and music?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. 100%. I couldn’t find a mic. So I’ve made about 10 videos so far, in one week( a few are still scheduled) so once they are all out and I make more I will do some talking. I’m also trying to find a decent place to work so once that sorted I can record easier and be in the videos a bit more ...even though it’s pure self cringe lol

      I’m not sure how to do, that but I will find out. Im sure that would be useful for some of my earlier videos where my poor sound quality along with my awkwardness of recording audio make some of the videos hard to hear. Not to mention my accent 😳. Cheers for the suggestion
