      I wish it had a double locking tremolo on it, LOL. In terms of making any changes, I would probably add some resin to the hexagon holes just to give the guitar more mass and address the issues with the neck for stability purposes. I would also cut the headstock to mimic an Ibanez RT headstock, put some locking tuners, a graphtech nut. better hardware and ballsy pickups.

      Too bright and thin for my taste. Is that cheap pickups or lack of wood?

      @@LeonTodd It didn't take too long once the printing was done. Printing is reasonably slow, the centre piece took 44 hours on its own.
      All in all, probably about 150 hours of printing time, one evening of assembly and a week of waiting for parts. It was all spread out over a few weeks and was a good learning experience for us all.

  • @hoosierdaddy2308

    Very cool. Physics tells us the pickups matter most! Strings, Pickups, nut and bridge more than anything besides our brain and fingers! 😛
    There was some guy on Reverb selling Video Game bodied guitars and I wanted one and should have bought it!
    Yeah, putting them together no matter what they are made of is the true joy to me as well.. It's just so cool to put together something you end up using. I bet you're dad would do something like this!

    The reason its so loud is because the 3d print has an infil. Its not solid plastic as that would be very very long to print. Which essentially makes it a hollow body electric which is pretty cool

    I am currently printing this project. The parts come out great on the new prusa mk4... imao this project is more to show what can be done with a 3d printer... but the stl files are great for prototyping. I'll probably fiddle around a bit till I'm satisfied, and then use the same files to make the body out of wood on a CNC router.

  • @crunchchannel9391

    I think if i was to design one ide make it like a neck threw then bolt the "3D printed" parts to the neck threw so the main part is wood but the different shapes can be changed using the different 3D printed parts. I then think ide use something like shoegoo to bond the 3D parts to the wood along with screws.

    It seems a little... bright LOL! Thins it up more than I'm used to hearing a standard Tele. Not sure if that's the electronics or what, but I think the "jangle" we hear acoustically is being picked up and amplified and it just sounds thinner than I'm used to hearing from a Tele.

    This is something I consider doing... But with a bass.
    However, there's a few things I would add, like reinforcement rods in order to make a more consistent centerpiece, and also consider a string through design.

    When do you think the tone wood debate will end? this is another example that wood types and styles dont matter at all. pick ups, their placement, how they are made, scale length, bridge saddles and nut matter most. Then theirs outside of that like speakers and mics

  • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing
    @Paul_Lenard_Ewing ปีที่แล้ว

    It is neither too dark, or muddy. The notes have good definition. My point being if it was a blindfold listen and we were told it was a particular pricey brand name we may or not like the sound but is totally improbable that we would think it was not what we were told it is.

  • @picksalot1

    I like the hexagon design and color. I would have liked seeing them used on the lower bout as well, and the hexagons as a design feature in the wooden headstock. Nothing in the tone sounded cheap or compromised. If I hadn't seen the guitar, I wouldn't have guessed a large part of the body was made of plastic.

    • @hanovergreen4091
      @hanovergreen4091 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And include a patter to make weighted hexagons to fit inside the lower bout. This would be a killer idea for a 3D SG. That way you could add weight easily by gluing in Hexagons until it was where you wanted it. Best Regards and Best Wishes!

    I'm absolutely amazed by the tele tones you got from this. Would love to see how you would "metalize" a tele. Hot rails? Route for humbuckers? Maybe some other options to get humbuck'ish tones with singlecoils on tap. I feel like tele has so much metal potential that is underutilized

    • @jameskellam2980
      @jameskellam2980 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Tele has a high gain pickup. A lot more meat than Strats do, and being a single coil it can go all the way into the twang of country. All in all they are very versatile guitars. Only drawback is they look kinda crude. I love the 2 I have.

    Hi Leon. You've mentioned the acoustic "volume". Back in the 90's, I always wanted a Kramer Ferrington. Mate of mine had one, an acoustic that felt like an electric and wasn't so loud - or loud as an "normal" acoustic which can be awkward in some situations. Could a "Ferrington" be printed? OG's are very expensive s/h.

    • @LeonTodd

    When an electric guitar is that loud and resonate acoustically its usually a pretty good sign it’ll sound great amplified and obviously things besides wood can resonate pretty good too, I think it sounds pretty good, it’s not really my type of thing, had the electric guitar been invented in a more modern time it could’ve been made out of just about anything but wood is relatively going to be easily accessible and easy to work and we’ve made a whole lot of Mojo out of special “tone woods” when the fact guitars are made of wood probably has way more to do with convenience than any sort of calculated tone wood formula,
    If it sounds good it is good.
    Yeah the whole point of legos is putting them together I would’ve been bummed if my parents assembled my legos before they give them to me.

    To me the headstock design looks "unfinished" - like: "Hey, customer! Take your own saw. And put it into any shape you personally like! 😄
    No moneky grip - but by grabbing the guitar through the honeycombs with one hand, you could hold it up in a live show in unusual positions while tapping your butt off... a "showing-off"-friendly guitar!

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I think that's the idea with those cheap HB kits - DIY headstock design and body finish!

      @@LeonTodd Oh thanks, I didn´t get the "diy" in the first place. I had thought, some small brand would print that pody parts and the same brand would provide and sell a widely premounted guitar with the wooden parts.. Now I see, it´s just a manual how to print. And then you´d buy a fitting wood kit from HB - or vice versa.
