Check the solder joints on the Displayport and HDMI; if someone was careless with that header and yanked on the cable at an oblique angle it might have cracked those, which means you'd just need to re-solder the connectors.

Probably because, other than RTX offering a different way to do rendering in real time, which kinda has niche following, there really hasn't been any major improvements beyond *bigger numbers*
The problem with bigger hardware numbers is the companies making the games don't bother to optimize anything anymore so the benefits of that hardware aren't as good as they should be anyway.

    *about NOCTUA fans...*
I replaced the fans in my EVGA GTX1080 FTW3 that warbled and were generally slightly too loud with Noctua fans. (In case someone asks, yes I fixed the thermal pad issue.) They are the NF-A9 PWM 80mm fans (black color). I also had to get the 4-pin adapter for the fan header due to the size difference... my noise issues went away. Basically I did this:
    1) ordered 2x NF-A9 80mm PWM fans, and 2x fan header adapter (came to about $50USD in total)
    2) removed entire top shroud (make sure you have the proper screwdriver first)
    3) attached fans + adapters with zip ties (worked well but plan it out)
    4) Delete EVGA Precision X OC software and reinstall (it was crashing as the LED stuff was no longer attached. reinstalling software worked fixed this)
    5) Set fans to OFF until 60degC then ramp up on a steadily increasing curve... basically silent in gaming even with the sound disabled
(OTHER: my motherboard BIOS has a profile for my Noctua CPU and case fans as well mostly because that works well in Linux. My graphics card fan noise was even worse in Linux compared to Windows as there's no software to set a custom profile and the damn EVGA fans made horrible warbling noise. And I wasn't going to RMA my card as I heard that didn't even fix it for some people. Plus I love a mostly silent PC)

  • @vitor900000
    @vitor900000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Those Msi fans start to get stuck after 2~3 years of use. The best way to relub them is by heating a needle and using it to make a small hole on the back of the fan housing. You will be able to use a syringe to inject lub true that hole and you can cover it with tape.
You can also try to separate the fan from the bearing housing since its just a press fit but there is a very high risk of breaking the fan blades.

When checking dead gpu's you should check the pci-e connectors with a multimeter, When there is continuity between the bottom and top row of the pins than there is a short, most likely in one of the powerstages. You could get a really cheap multimeter, probably even a 5€ one would do the job. It could be that the you killed the gpu (and the psu) with the cheap psu. A good psu should detekt a short and shut itself off, sometimes the gpu survives that, but every time you try to start the gpu with the short it is more likely to kill the gpu-die.
It would be pretty interesting to see somebody with basically no prior experiecne try to repair gpu's.
Definetly looking forward to your next videos

Where I live it's impossible to get even this graphics card for a reasonable price (not that I would do it), sellers are not honoring the MSRP, and prices are way above what you'd expect from a piece of hardware such as this, I recently finished building my rig (assembling it by parts) and couldn't afford the GPU right away so I bought an Intel Core i5 10400 none F variant because I knew this was going to happen.

I had to retire my GTX 780 because it was really unstable. GTA V used to crash quite frequently with a graphics error Skyrim Special edition and Fallout 4 used to Crash to the desktop when ever it felt like it. Cities skylines would also crash too. I turned on performance mode in my bios settings and my pc would not boot just kept saying unstable overclock. I found that it used to draw more voltage than what it needed too and when I used MSI Afterburner to attempt an overclock it would be fine running benchmarking software but when I tried to play a game like Skyrim Se for example it would finish loading then instantly Crash to the desktop. It would refuse to play any demanding game when overclocked it did not even like being made not to over volt its self so I assumed it was a issue with the power rails. Since upgrading to a RTX 2080 super my PC does not crash now. Unfortunately I brought the 2080 just before the 3 series cards were announced :(

New Monitors doesn't have vga or dvi port but in this card bios setting is save to display from vga or dvi port 1st then goes to HDMI port. Just do one thing boot windows and when you have login then remove the dvi port and put in hdmi port and display will show.

clean that 780s ports with WD40 and a gun brush (its like a tooth brush with stiffer and much longer bristles to get in deep places) spray the wd40 liberally into the dead ports let it set for a few minutes spray again and scrub, you can even spray down the whole card. Go check out techyescity cleaning videos on reviving old GPUs

I doubt u could swap the whole cooler from 270 to 780 ... components on pcb are placed differently, even the cooler is shaped by the position of the gpu die and vrm.

Its a good card but 3GB VRAM really hinders it nowdays, also some Kepler cards don't render DX12 properly at all, specifically both my Gigabyte GTX 780 & GTX 780 GHZ Edition cards are unplayable with DX12, even UWP store apps such as OneNote etc fail to render correctly

You should try some sort of frankstein solution for the r9 but set yourself a rule of no zip ties or something

Have you tried plugging and unplugging a (DP/HDMI) cable into those sockets over and over again? Might be some oxidation on the contacts that needs scratched through. _might_ could be re-established. Now If you'll excuse me, I'm off to SewnBySophie to watch you attempt to sew.

6:49 and this is supposed to be the next-gen graphically super-advanced straining your hardware sort of game, great physics and logic in that game for sure.
Man Watchdogs Legion is like a joke in terms of anything honestly, I've seen decade-old games with more realistic and better-looking physics than this game, but it sure requires some super beefy hardware to run smoothly.

Even if the ports stop working it can be still used in combination with onboard gpu :D get yourself a cheap ryzen apu and set windows to use dediceted gpu in games.
