the "kid in white" was more then a "state qualifier". He was a 3x state finalist, winning it his Sr year and was HS all-american. He ended up taking 2nd at ncaas for Penn State. Alan Fried didn't beat a nobody...he was just that good.
Both fantastic Ohio wrestlers. Love to see the Gregg Genovese vs Robbins match. Robbins senior year had the match up of the whole state tournament. Problem was it was in the quarter finals against Scot Petch. Both Robbins and Petch went against each other in the quarters even though they both won their districts and both returning state finalist the previous year.
@nicholas33309 i understand your criticism, but Alan Fried was just that far ahead of the competition. if you saw the kid in white wrestle anyone else, he would look like a state qualifier, I am sure. I knew some very talented wrestlers who went against Fried, one of which, was an OVAC champ, and they were simply destroyed. Alan Fried is one of the greatest wrestlers in US history.
Jr H . Pattie of Elyria beat Fried once 9-3 District finals. Lost 2-1 to him overtime state finals in 87. A stalling point for Fried sent it to overtime at 7-7.
