- One of the greatest HS match ups of all time. Future NCAA champions Brent Metcalf (Iowa) and Dustin Schlatter (U. of Minnesota) face each other in the finals of the Medina tournament. Metcalf gets him this time but Schlatter comes back and beats him at Senior Nationals.

I was there for this match. When it was over Metcalf ran straight to the hallway alongside the gym and started running sprints.
I was there live for this on this day. One year after I graduated, and became a coach before leaving for the Navy. This match was special. Everyone as you can see, had their eyes glued to this match. And especially before cell phones had cameras.
This match still gives me the anxiety watching. It was Ohio vs Michigan... as it always should be. Everyone in the arena felt like Schlatter got screwed at the end outcome.
That's how I felt as a kid in middle school in that gym on those bottom bleachers watching it. This is the first time I watched it since. Metcalf had an insane engine and was dominating that match the entire time
I was there and won my weight.. I skipped that weight for a reason.
II actually beat met, but dustin whooped my ass...

I had never seen this match and I'm a huge fan of both of these wrestlers. Schlatter got completely screwed on the last takedown. If you watch it live, it is 2. If you count it out from when the announcers say 5 seconds left, it is 2. Metcalf pushes the pace and works hard, but scored no offensive points in the entire match. In over time, Metcalf false starts almost every restart. I do not like to complain about officials, but this match was not officiated very well.
Dustin won that match, not only was that 2 @ the end... but Metcalf should've been hit for his typical antics
Wow Dustin got cheated hard. The ref waited way to long to call two at the end if regulation. Should have won for sure
Dustin won when it mattered that season at senior Nationals. Had Dustin not suffered injuries in his collegiate career, he'd have added more than 1 NCAA title to his collection.
Metcalf ran through Schlatter in college though.
@@marcusdbatson not really. Metcalf beat him 1 time 5-3 in the Big Ten championship. That was the season Dustin missed a major portion of the season with a knee injury, which ultimately ruined his career. Both were great, Metcalf won 1 more NCAA title than Schlatter; I'd hardly say Metcalf ran thru him though.
But I think that Dustin guy should have gotten his 2
I think the ref made a bad call on Metcalf not finishing the takedown and Schlatter on his takedown. Other wise I think Metcalf would of finished and we got a tie. Good Match.
Schlatter I think if not hurt would of beat Metcalf at Big Tens. Im a huge Metcalf fan too
The funny part is that the official that blows the takedown call on the edge becomes a state rules interpreter. That is Ohio officiating for you.

i'm a schlatter fan and i agree with you but during the 2nd overtime metcalf keeps raising off his knees before the ref blows the whistle. so i think both guys got away with stuff. great match. wish they could have wrestled more in h.s.

Well if he called Metcalf out on his takedown, how could he not when Schlatter got the takedown? Also, the kid is hitting the ref as he awards two points. I don't feel bad, Schlatter shouldn't have stalled so much.

Schlatter clearly won 10:08 there's no question that's a takedown. Schlatter 5-3. Metcalf couldn't score a offensive point

that ref sucked letting the other ref bully him.. that was 100% 2. Schlatter won that match.
Metcalf loss I agree with the commentators dustin got screwed over
