Wish they aired the entire match on TV.
Pat Smith is my wresting coach at Blue Birds wrestling in Arkansas. It's such an honor to have him as a coach, he's one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

Holy cow I forgot how good this match was. I'm used to the magic those Smith boys had on the mat, but Tom Ryan looked so naturally athletic on those takedown counters, and his strength in those crazy positions was ridiculous. I didn't follow enough wrestling back then to see if he did anything in freestyle.
Great wrestling by both men -- tremendous match!
Such an insane match to watch knowing what was on the line and how great both wrestlers are
Wow, I have this on VHS at my mom's house somewhere. I haven't seen this since 1991 but I remembered all of it as I watched it today 29 years later. What I didn't remember was I was watching future Ohio St coach Tom Ryan as a wrestler. That's pretty damn cool...

Should have been at least two back points for Smith in the 3rd period. Glad he won and rightfully so.

His only obstacle was Kenny Monday. Pat Smith gave Monday as close a match as he ever had in international competition.
