I remember Saturday morning minors so well. Mum used to give my brother and me a shilling each, enough for the twopenny bus fair each way, 6d to get in and the rest for some sherbet flying saucers or cheapest lolly 3d lolly. Funny thing is I ended up working at the ABC /Regal Streatham, where we went, as a film projectionist and showed many a next generation kids the same programmes I enjoyed. I stayed in the trade for 17 years before moving away from it altogether. Fond memories of those days though.
9d for the upper stalls in Wakefield, and I think a Zoom was 3d (we used the bus fare to get there on time but walked home and used the return fare to buy the Zoom).
oldproji Ah. Yes..well remembered ... I went to our local Regal and was an ABC MINOR......a Pearl & Dean and for Kia Ora, followed by Lassie or Zorro ,then ice cream, or lolly.....close. to bonfire night...the odd 1d or 2d banger under a seat ( bloomin dangerous kids)! Till the management found out..and the minors song....all for just 6d! Wish I could go back and do it all again.
Mick Whittaker Zoom an ice lolly I think. We had the "DRINK ON A STICK' lolly..can't remember the brand, just the advert! Plus we had Kia Ora 🍊 drink cost 1/- pricey for a kid....just found my old ABC minors badge....that started all these memories......Happy days before the world went mad.
If it was your birthday that week you went up on stage and got a free ticket for next week's show. Some of us used to claim it was our birthday every 3 or 4 months. ;)
Nice video compilation, I used to go the ABC minors in Oldham - we all loved it. Though I don't think you got the adverts quite right, they definately didn't show adverts about gambling, cigs and cigars. Maybe you could redo it with other kid friendly ads! Nice memories though. I recognise the film clip of the minors, that as I think from the film "Small Faces"??
good old day with sweets galore in pocket had to go well prepared wasnt paying inflated sweet prices they used to charge back in the day eeeeeeelol great memories
I put it in as a bit of a joke, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. Back then, no one would have thought anything of it. After all they used to sell sweets shaped like cigarettes, long white sticks of candy with a red tip to look like they were alight, supplied in a cigarette style pack.
bowlingbuddie good question...PROBOBLY not, but...? I can't remember seeing ANY cig add on Pearl & Dean....just sweets, ice cream, and Kia Ora 🍊 orange /pop corn .
Great piece of nostalgia !
