  • Gaahleri GHAD-68 Spraying and Cleaning using Tamiya Semigloss Black
    I used the Gaahleri GHAD-68 pistol grip airbrush to paint Tamiya’s Semigloss Black XF-18 on a few parts that I forgot to paint the other day. The airbrush had a .5mm tip and I used 18 PSI. I do not use primers anymore with Tamiya paints and since I’ve stopped my results have been much better. I give the part a very light coat and let it dry. Then I do that again, let it dry. Then the third coat and if needed fourth coat I will hit with a heavy coat. I let it dry for a few days and it’s hard as a rock and sticks very well.
    Cleaning the Gaahleri GHAD-68 is a breeze. I start out by wiping out the cup. Then I will back blow some thinner through the cup by putting my finger over the tip and slowly pulling the trigger back until it starts to bubble the thinner in the cup. I’ll let that go for a bit, then I will spray it out. I usually do that twice before I start taking the airbrush apart. The Gaahleri GHAD-68 does not need any tools to take down. Then it’s an easy task to clean the airbrush.
    Thanks for watching and have a great day.

    I have an airbrush, different brand bought at my favorite hobby store, but I haven't used it yet. I always brush painted kits or used rattle-cans, but I'm definitely going to branch out now when I get the chance to build things again. Even though yours is different, I watch to learn and get a handle on techniques and such.
    I've wondered why everyone seems fixated on "primer", when these plastic kits don't "rust". I don't see any issues with adhesion either. My 50 year old models have lost no paint, and I never used primer on them. Happy to see you don't use primer. I think that thin coat first, then letting it dry, then adding more layers is the way I'm going to go with my airbrush. Thanks for the video.

      If I could give some advice with the airbrush, grab some cardboard and practice with some water. That will give you a feel for how it sprays and how to handle it. Then move to paint, then try it on an old car body. Primer on models it to etch into the paint and give the paint coat something to grip to. I've found like you, that Tamiya's paint grips well and seems to do well without. You will get arguments both ways, just do what you are conferrable with and you will be good to go.

    Jesus Christ, so there's the needle chuck nut!! I spent two damn hours trying to find it. I kept taking off the front part of the shaft. I didn't realize the back part comes off too! I thought I'd lost the some bitch. Even went to Gaahleri's website and was about to order one cause I figured I must've dropped it or something. I just got the gun today, so glad I found this video. Thanks! You saved me $3.95 cent.

      That is what I like using it on too. With the .5mm tip it's perfect for bodies.

    Off topic somewhat, Mark. I found that my area library has equipment to do 3D printing. It's free to use, surprisingly, and I think I'm going to take an online class there to learn how.
    You mentioned someone was going to do a dumpster for your diorama, I'm thinking my first 3D will be a dumpster. We'll see how it goes. lol
    btw: What scale is your garage, 1:24 or 1:25?

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is cool that the library offers that. There's some great online sites for learning how to use them, and how to do basic design work. The Texaco Station is 1/24th scale.

    Mark thanks so much for the video. Great job as usual. I know just how you feel about the trigger brush. It's amazing! I use mine all the time. Thanks for the extra bonus of seeing you too!!! Oh you handsome devil you LOL. Your looking good my brother.
    I'm going to look for your booth build. I'm starting to collect the stuff I need. I just need a bigger booth and don't want to spend a lot of $ to get one. So thanks again for the video. I may look into getting one of those Gaahleri brushes soon...

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much. OK, I was reading this and almost got water on my screen. LOL I love my spray booth, but I got a table out of a dumpster at work, and I may re make it using that table. It has electric plugs built in and room for the compressor too.

    • @richiek6379
      @richiek6379 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@grandpamarkshobbies That sounds so cool Mark. Wish I had the room for a bigger booth. The tub one will do me fine. The one my son in law gave me just wasn't big enough from the get go. I expanded it with card board but it still doesn't sit right with me. It drafts up and I don't like that. I'm still in the planning stages. Wish me luck...I'll take all the advice I can get. The one you made looks like it'll fit the bill for me.
      Oh yeah - be careful of the compressor's vibrations if you put it on top of the table. You don't want that... keep it on the floor.

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The table is actually smaller than what I have now, but if I build one right on it I can have the same room as I do now after I put a shelf on top of the booth for my cleaning stuff. I have my compressor sitting on a wooden chair next to my table. It keeps it off the ground, and off the table too. I just want to have better storage all my junk. I just need to do a total rearrangement of my shop. LOL

    • @richiek6379
      @richiek6379 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@grandpamarkshobbiesYeah I know what you mean. All the new stuff you get and build leaves less and less room. I really need to rearrange my whole corner of styrene heaven for sure! I want to try to go completely water based painting. Hope it works out for me. Wish me luck on this one too... Oh I know there will be a few exceptions too...

    • @grandpamarkshobbies
      @grandpamarkshobbies  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. I am going to do a complete rearrange of my shop real soon. I've been water based for a while now, and I have been doing good with it.

      LOL. I have to say, this is one of the nicest airbrushes I've ever used. I love the pistol grip, and the way the tip is designed. I also love not having that tiny tip and the wrench to take it apart with.

    Handy video for sure Mark. As you know I’m a big fan of these brushes too. I use a totally different process and still get fantastic results so I think they’re pretty forgiving as well, as I’m a terrible airbrusher myself. Lol
