- 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Sedan, 1974 Dodge Monaco in Thunder and Lightning, Movie, 1977
The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Sedan is driven by the main character Harley Thomas (David Carradine) and takes one hell of a beating. It does several high speed reverse 180° turns, drives across a beach demolishing a hot dog stand and a lifeguard tower, does a wheelie to go through a Police roadblock, flips over when taking a corner too wide and keeps going, and probably the most memorable scene is where it flies off the top of a multistory parking lot - landing on top of a Mercedes dealership, falls through the roof of the building and lands in the Mercedes showroom unscathed, then drives out straight through the front glass window! It's chased by several vehicles all of which end up crashing in one way or another. Obviously a good few "stunt double" cars were used.
If you gave this car chase a thumb's down ( eight people did) I suggest you unsubscribe to my channel and never watch a car chase again. Just sayin'.
Maybe they. Like me didn't like seeing chickens getting killed just for a film. Just saying. .
Gotta watch it twice: once for the chase, once for all the cars in the background
These old car chase movies are much better than fast and furious as they were really driving those cars 👍🏴
Yes
The concussions were real too! 🤕
Fabulous chase. Love the old car movies more than recent ones as they drive them so fast.
Американские машины 1970-х годов просто произведения искусства! Жаль что такие машины сейчас не выпускают.
Part of this chase was filmed in the LA, Calif area (the parking deck and the Mercedes dealer at 4:37) (Woodland Hills).
Most of the rest was filmed in Florida (probably Collier County - Naples from the patch on the sheriff's shirt).
A few chickens did get hurt in the making of this movie.
Anybody notice, the spring shackles on the 57 were there, then gone when it ran through the fruit place, then came back. And when the Dodge went off the loading dock, the front end crinkled, and then not? lol. That poor Dart at the end. :(
I noticed a few things about that Chevy, it wouldn't break 😂
No wonder the '57 Bel Air is popular, nothing can beat it!
That 57 Chevy is a beast.
Bad bastard can fall through the roof of a Mercedes Benz Dealer, hit the showroom, and drive through the front window evidently. 😏
@@mmack647 😁
Yeah NOT.. Driver was the reason . 440 super pursuit would in real life easily catch a small block chevy
@@bradhardy2629 probable
There is a 454 ci instead the small block 283....
Thanks for another recommendation, love these old 70s car chase films!
No chickens were hurt in the making of this… oh wait, I take that back
4:39 - Monaco changes to a Fury. And that red steel bumper Corvette - Sheesh.
4:22 bel air looses driver side tail light on the traffic pole but it's there again at 4:25
2:40 cop made mincemeat outa that chicken
I know...😭
Totally agreed one guy from the comment was saying using fake chickens not at 2.40 that was the real thing a chicken getting sucked into a spinning tire 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the good old low budget movies
I never knew the iconic '57 Bel Air were also made as sedans. I thought only as a coupe.
As for the police car, that's the same model the original Bluesmoble was.
This is a 4dr, hardtop. They made 4dr. sedans, 2dr. sedans, 2 & 4dr. wagons, the Nomad wagon, and a convertible. Just like all years.
See? Everywhere.
Well yeah they made it in both it was the regular chevy car they weren't only gonna make 2 doors, coupes tend to be more valuable now adays though
I used to live in Collier County around the same time this movie was filmed and I recognized so many of the places where it was done it's pretty neat
Anytime you see a chicken truck, you KNOW it's gonna be TOAST!
😄👍
As bad a two dudes taking a giant pane of glass across a street. 😆
Or the guy on the ladder!
You endanger chickens like that nowadays.
That girl from Charlie's Angels is so cute.
Kate Jackson.
@lincmerc1581 Kate Jackson sure is beautiful, she even played in the Mercury commercials in the 90s.
No chickens were harmed in the making of this movie lol 😂
Poor chickens! That stunt would never fly today.
You notice they were tossing fake chickens out the windows.
@@mattfarahsmillionmilelexus they werent fake chickens lol
@@Toxic2T I looked again, and it appears you're right. Pretty brutal.
Anyone notice at the 4:00 mark to about the 4:04 no windshield in the '57 and then after that the windshield is back in.
Also that was Kate Jackson of the Charlies Angles fame riding with David Carradine.
"Let's see him get out of this"
*crashes through glass*
Wow the body roll on that 57 Chevy 4 door is something else. Did anyone else notice the police car ran over a chicken? Where's PETA?
Yea, lots of chicken carnage
Peta wasn't around then.
@@perrylankford4269 ASPCA was though. I was gonna ask if anyone wanted tire pressed chicken?
No chickens were endangered in the making of this movie
How many chickens were harmed in the making of this? LOL
Haven't seen thunder and lightning in years one of David carradine's best
Makes me wonder who the stunt driver for that 57 Chevy was, because he was nuts.
2:39 Burnout over a chicken lol !
No 1970s chase film is complete without a chicken truck.
Those old 70's full size boats were not so slow as you may think . I was interested and did some digging as in 1976 I had a 440 Charger R/T that on some back roads in central Illinois with a single 4BBL carburetor a 3.23 rear end ratio 3 speed torqueflite in stock tune would run 148 Mph on the straight and level . However the Ford Custom 500's 460 CID pursuit specials in 77 and 78 ran 132 MPH in the Michigan speed trails the 1978 running 132.7 I doubt a beater 57 Chevy would come within 20 MPH of these cars . This was not beaten by the downsized full size police cars until the mid 80's by the Impala 350's and Ford LTD's 351's . To go faster at that time Mustangs, Camaros and 1987 Buick T TYPES were used .
The same car and even some of the same cuts were used in "Smokey Bites The Dust" movie.
That 57 chevy must be a distant cousin of Christine, indestructible.
WOW! There's 10 and a half minutes of FLASHBACK! The last and only time I seen that movie was at the base theater 🎭 on Fort Lewis in Washington.
Ah yes South Florida. Known for its banjo music and moonshine 🤣
..and airborne 57 chevys
10:08 wow the Belair actually rolled over, I bet they didnt expected that
I'm pretty sure after listening 5 times, that the cop called it a 67 chevy. Of course it's Hollywood, where hubcaps react after each scene during those days.
Gonna guess this film didn't have a "no animals were harmed..." thing at the end.
am i right or has the BelAir some transformation between 2 and 4-door? on 4:58 it is a 4-door sedan with sporty rims, at 5:27 in the Merc-store it's a 2-door coupe with white steelies. impressive ^_^.
Why does this give me ptsd from stuntman
That '74 Monaco went as well as a duck to water.
those poor chickens, lol
Fafuloso lo mas padre en car chases better end fast and furious att ELPachuca toy's
Hilarious, super stuff!
Amo, esse filme 🤩❤️
Where do you find all these regular movie and tv movie car chases?
vroom vroom car chase
No long rear shackles/ jack up bars on the multi story scene.
8:34 mercades jumpscare
Lol
"Aaaahhh Holy shiii- *cuts off into TV static* "
David Carradeine showing off the instability of the 70s raked look
The cbs Friday late night movie 👍🏻
I wonder how much of that driving David Carradine was really doing?😮 but if he was doing any of it! he was lucky , I bet he like driving that 57 Chevy'
I wouldn't want the backend raised up so high, I don't know if it was b'cuz I was around when some of those were still on the streets? but a lot of the 50s cars are not only classic they were in a class of Their Own. they were like a work of art' so pleasing too the eyes.
At 4.10 Damn that car doing the roll over stunt was hauling some serious ass now that is Real Stunt work and there was no ramp to help flip the car over and the best part NO CGI
Wondering how many 57s they destroyed for this chase
Will have been just everyday old cars back then
MARAVILHA
Man, look at the leafsprings on that thing 3:30
Blues Brothers driving school...
Chase very similar to Mad Max movie. But who was first?
What movie?
Yeah, they don't make movies like this anymore.
Cause the shitmobiles we have today can't handle it. 😆
Super Duper Guy far Out 🙋💯😃
Kate Jackson aka Sabrina, was fuckin gorgeous ‼️ Gah damn
Seemed awfully similar to smokey and the bandit here and there.
Лютый шевиК))
En Mi Opinión estás Películas de autos de antes son Mejores que las ahora , Ahora se tratan de auto y tienen que pelear como Superhéroe osea
Wonder how many times they had to reshoot the chicken truck sene
hány csirke pusztult el?
🎉
❤
NO WHY STINGRAY!!
Kate Jackson i think
🤗
Well those vets just weren't worth much back in the day I guess. And a four-door 57 hardtop. I wonder it wouldn't take much to get up 88 miles an hour but if somebody turned the hellcat into a time machine coming back and shoulders old boys but real horsepower is nowadays. Whose horsepower is dead after the oil embargo they said
Anybody identify the song starting at 8:39? Shazam isn't giving me anything
Kate. Love u
Sweet kidneys of Christ! 😆
this is hot persuit
Who can name the car @ 6:36 ?
The light blue car @ 6:53 behind the '72 Plymouth Satellite Custom Station Wagon? Don't know.
@@CarChaseWonderland2 That's the one, but I wasn't gonna give people that 2nd. clue just yet, haha ~
taking a stab fat the mistery car at 6.36 looks like a Chrysler imperial ?????
@@rogerstlaurent8704 No, but I can sure see why you would say that now that you say it.
1st. clue - it's GM.
@@UberLummox and i was going to say a GM car what got me was the rear fender skirts over the rear tires and the back bumper maybe ??? thats why i went with the Chrysler
Visible animal cruelty to chickens Is obviously not a concern!!
😁
When did they stop and change the dash from red to silver @4.56 its red and has no steering wheel wrap.
FTP
Tons of smokey and the bandit copycat movies
This movie came out in 1977 the same year as Smokey and the Bandit.
@@CarChaseWonderland2 ohhh.. my bad. I like it regardless ☮️😉👍
🤘😏🇺🇸 IN TRUMP WE TRUST 🇺🇸
No chickens were harmed in the making of this chase scene
HMMMMMMMMM....at 4:20 that Chevy takes a HARD Driver side rear quarter/ bumper hit...peice of bumper hanging off for split second...back on ...no damage
The part with the chickens isnt right, 2:40 runs over one too!
