this game had a 24h peak at 4000. All time 6600 These 2 games are more or less no longer played.....even this "update" is the franchise "total war" burning money to buy themself time for a new release, because they don't have a historic title for us.....AGAIN. Rome 2: 5700 24h All time 118.000 Medieval 2: 4200 24h All time: 8400 Warhammer 3: 21.000 24h All time: 166.000 This game is actual played. A good total war game gets 100.000 players. A game to be called good should get in these times 200.000 players, IF it is actual GOOD and historic. CA is just ignoring the opportunity, didn't innovated, wasted tons on easier design AND THIS SHIT, ignoring actual interesting graphic efforts. Where are the little video events of Shogun2? Where are the videos IN GAME for discovering certain regions, for creating a certain government, death of the ruler, civilwar, famines, disasters, inventions etc. etc. etc. There are mods about it. In old total war games you learned history, you enjoyed to see the senat, you enjoyed the crusades and pope elections and marriage system, we have mods with feuatures for DECADES, still not made to a normality in the core game. This is embarrassing. They dont invent or released an historic title, Resonat, they copy here just Warhammer at best to "expand the game" for a second cash grab, because these games are already dead. Now they can ignore these 2 games, fix issues in this *ONE product and cut costs for servicing 2 DEAD GAMES.*
At first I thought this was gonna be paid, but the fact they updated it for free does kinda redeem them partially. But the fact we still don't have any word on Medieval 3 or Empire 2 still means I highly doubt CA will make the games we actually want in the future.
@@apollomars1678 Ehm no, you are comparing a 2 year old game to an 11 and 18 year old game. Obviously the 2 year old game is going to have a higher player count than a game that's decades old... Also the Warhammer playerbase and the Historical playerbase are separate, many historical players simply never played nor ever will be playing the Warhammer games and vice versa. CA doesn't have to make just one type of game, but after a decade of having no good Historical Total War it's perfectly reasonable for the Historical Playerbase to voice their wants of a Medieval 3 or Empire 2 game, instead of the fantasy slob that CA is trying to serve... Also Medieval 2 didn't originally release on fucking Steam because the game was released before Steam even existed, so comparing it's playercount is completely unfair because most people played it on the original disk and has sold in total between 500k and 1 million copies on steam alone.
The amount of work they've done pretty much conclusively proves that this was always the intent and it was originally going to be released as multi-year-long DLC for milking. So the SAGA original was literally a lie from the start. Which is odd as hell as it created the illusion of it being small scale and us never really getting anything on a much grander scale. Anyone that thinks they whipped all this out in a few months though is frankly barking mad, it's not as simple as "mixing Troy and Pharaoh hurr durr it's just merging assets". No it's not.
True, but at the same time I imagine they had to cut a bunch of stuff, some factions are just reuses of the sea-people units, So as dlc-s there would be more but definitely not enough to justify the shit show of the release (or the inevitable pricetags on the dlc) Also some of the minor factions could definitely be full-on factions but aren't and probably are going to stay minor faction forever.
@@cathulionetharn5139 Yeah totally. Not sure how closely you follow CA and TW in general but I was more alluding to the war of contention that's been raging online for like a year where people have been arguing Troy and Pharaoh will be joined one day or that one was a DLC clone of the other or this and that and vice-versa with lots of arguing. CA have basically settled it now though. This incredible news has actually shown that they were in fact (like a lot of us thought) being far shadier than it appeared. But they are trying to own it and redeem now which is good.
@@CoffeeFiend1Do you understand how studios operate? The recent updates to Pharoah have been developed by the Sophia studio, I highly doubt that what you're saying is the truth.
@@ДушманКакдела Mate if you think they've made something of this size (and Sofia isn't even their flagship studio) in a few months then do you even understand how studios operate? This is like Apollo program levels of 'get it done' and isn't even remotely believable in the slightest.
This is NOT "wow they did a lot of work in the last couple of months! great job!" What it actually is: "wow, look how much content they cut from the game for overpriced DLCs" Dont believe CA any lies.
Some people are never happy. If they'd released this as a base game you'd complain its to expensive. Luckily there are others that allow themselves to be happy
CA: "Okay, we're going to end the game." CA Sofia: "Will you at LEAST let us finish the game?" CA: "Eh, sure. Whatever." CA Sofia: *cracks knuckles* "Finally we can do what we wanted to from the start."
Fun fact when you give orders to units they shout "Μἀλιστα" or "Malista" witch translates to "Indeed" but it actually means "Yes sir" or "Yes" to be a bit more accurate also when you order them to attack a unit they shout "Επίθεση" or "Epithesi" witch means, you guessed it "Attack" both words are in Greek with an Incredibly accurate accent that took me by surprise and i should know, i'm Greek.
Since they went this far maybe they can go back and put a polish on TW:Attila an update it's trade and diplomacy, fix the memory leaks... You know, "the definitive Attila".
@@teaser6089 Long time ago. That's just a band-aid versus actual accountability. Fixed many of the bugs as well. Can't wait for the day when AI will let me rewrite the entire code.
We basically know nothing about the "Sea Peoples" except that they were perhaps either multiple separate cultures all migrating simultaneously, or a loose alliance of tribes and cultures all migrating from north to to south. There is 0 evidence of they're passage or there existence.
@nickwoodfin2690 they depict cultures that have left no evidence of their existence, aside from tangential references from other kingdoms. They are also depicted in an extremely biased way, that leaves very little for interpretation. Other than that they arrived, were ugly and brutish, raided the coasts, and where eventually defeated and slaughtered by the Pharoah. The Pharoah is depicted as being dozens of meters tall and shooting arrows as long as sail boats. So in essence, we know that they may have existed and basically nothing else.
@@ДушманКакделаits just primitive art, they painted the pharoah big because they want him to grab people’s attention. Not because they were looking to make a fantasy setting
I not gonna praise them for doing what they should have in the beginning. I do not blame the workers in the proverbial office trenches but what seems like a greedy arrogant company. also I for one want historically accurate historical games, this should be the era of the chariot not cavalry. this was one I did not want to see them in. I would much prefer they finally address the wonky chariot mechanics but it does not look like it. instead just thrust units that did not come till the iron age into the game and call it good. hopefully the next historical game will be better and more period accurate.
No "unit" is historical, they're just aggregated gear lists with a made up name. At no time in history were "soldiers" categorized and organized in this way. It's just a video game, also chariots aren't as common as you are assuming they were.
@@rumiazhari7387 I think most were for more unit diversity. some wanted cavalry probably but again that's way out of this era, would be like putting muskets and cannons in the roman age. so your not playing a bronze age historical game at this point. we still are not getting a true historical game.
@@jlickley1118 More like getting a unit of Tagmata 400 years early during the fall of Rome. Which if you load up Atilla oh would you look at that. Like, they have ALWAYS sacrificed historicity for the sake of gameplay and roster variety. Like it or not, a lot of people were complaining about no cav, some people even very vocally said they didn't want to buy a Total War game without cav, and so the managers decided to add cav and the developers did. I don't like it either, but your complaints about this not being a true historical game for something that EVERY other historical game in the series has done is just hypocritical.
@@Rukdug didn't play attila, now that you make me think about it a lot of there historical games I have not played. rome 2 and shogun 2 I think. and maybe I am being unfair for being more interested in bronze age game with bronze age combat instead of the bog standard cavalry infantry missile troops balance. there's a reason chariots fell away and odds are the addition of cavalry will do the same in this game. I have been more critical of them Triple A in general thinking the worst of them sometimes, but that is more a learned response to their B.S. is it hypocritical? sure why not. but does not change that the game would have stood out more if properly focused on the era and the balance the era offered.
Why does every game have to be so cartoony and colorful but lack any real fidelity. I feel like graphics have stagnated for the past 10 years and haven't gotten better at all in comparison to the leaps and bounds made 20 years ago. Everything is just high saturation and other post processing effects while baked textures of models are lazy and cartoony af instead of pushing the boundary to be as realistic as possible while also running well. Its just another degree in the dev team that shows they didn't gaf.
Do me a favor & play these games F.E.A.R MGS2 (or 3 but I think it works better in 2) Far Cry 2 Notice something about the AI & how it feels so much better than what we currently have. Alien Isolation is the only other one I can think of that pushed AI. MGS2 & 3 have soldiers that need to radio in to set off an alert. Nowadays we are still using hive mind ai so if ONE dude spots you then ALL dudes know where you are. FEAR goes without saying & Far Cry 2 has some of the most dynamic ai interactions I've seen. Problem is it's a bit rough, but when it works it works.
It's tough to field alot of units and combinations without dropping a shit ton of framerate especially when initial combat begins, but that's why mods are important and game changing. Strategy games like this are hard to balance in that sense, it's why Rome 2 was highly praised because it was a sold combination of it all.
let's not jump from protesting straight to praise, give the game some time, it still has its issues and CA is still a terrible company, they may have redeemed themselves with this update but there's a long road ahead before they can get forgiveness from the players.
Counterpoint, no one is saying otherwise but tons of people feel the need to say this anyway as a cringe UM AKSHUALLY, just call the current content as it is, and it’s pretty good
@@crazykillerpanda101 well the game is better than it was and even then it was a good game, not exactly the best total war but it is a good game now, a worthy total war, definitely a historical total war people wanted. But considering that it is CA we can expect yet more DLCs to appear and who's to say they aren't going to try and pull the same thing with another game? I agree with you friend but I also still think that CA could do much better
I agree, but the attitude I've been seeing isn't protesting, it's belittling. I see people trying to paint this update as a bad thing, just so that they can prove that once again CA bad and they never do anything good. That's just not right.
I doubt it. CA typically leave games after its expiry date. Look up at Three Kingdoms, its amazing game and chinese players (which were massive in number) were forced to be disappointed since CA closed its developmental stage even though they had promised much about it
@@rumiazhari7387 That was also a case of CA not realizing that the old "use the base map but have a different time period" expansion dlc formula just WOULD not work for 3K when it is a period that is so heavily focused on the individuals who would go on to become characters. At the very least, they should have done something like the Chu-Han Contention rather than 8 Princes if they were going to stick to that old formula.
I have no hopes for modern CA, they would ruin even Medieval somehow. Everything they made was mediocre in last 20 years expect warhammer series alone. But their new simplified, heavy combat system is perfect for warhammer while it is NOT for anything else. As long as they insist using it for historical games as well they will keep ruining them forever..
Good. It was honestly a terrible idea marketed to the Chinese. As in, it was a cash grab to milk china. And it failed because Chinese players prefer getting milked by mobile games.
To be honest, i was really sad that Pharaoh turned out like that in the beginning. Two of my Friends buyed it and they were Dissapointed aswell. Im a History Geek and seeing the dissapointment many Players had, i didnt buyed it at all. But after seeing this Update/FLC i want to finaly Posses the Game :) i was stuck in Rome 2 Bronce age Mod (Which is also hella awesome), but now we finally have a more Proper Historical Total war :) Good Video ^^ I LOVE Rome 2, its still my Favourite with over 1000+ Hours, but a little Fresh wind in the Historical Direction is awesome now.
This is a great bit of news. Although I wonder are we ever going to return to the days of releasing epic groundbreaking games from the start then giving solid dlc to support the longevity of the game. I'm glad this happened but we all know why it has really happened.
No man's sky was a game initially made by like 20 devs. Total war: pharoh was made by a massive game company that had been making games of its genre for years.
Empire next! As a TW fan since the OG Shogun, i’d written them off as the Warhammer studio. Glad they’re showing some love to the folks that got them where they are…
They've finetuned it and made it into the biggest historical title they've ever made, listening to complaints and acting on them, and they've brought it out completely free tbf. That's extremely rare for a video game company nowadays. Normally they'd just leave it and not bother trying to redeem themselves, or they'd charge a load of money for it. Gotta give respect where it's due.
@TheSm1thers No, they're not getting a pat on the back or congratulations for fixing a game that they released broken and unfinished. If they had released this to begin with then they'd deserve a massive congratulations but supplying the game you promised is the basic and bare minimum.
I think they should do a global domination victorian total war. Bring the japanese units from Shogun 2 FotS, add the european powers and their colonies, African powers, middle eastern, American, the whole world as a campaign map.
@@lukasor9936 does that actually make it the biggest? Does it actually translate when you play it? Map dont look that impressive to me and matey sounds a bit like a gooner whos glazing for CA
@@joshmann7587 when it comes to historical total war it certainly feels the biggest, even ignoring the numbers. While Rome 2 felt giant at first it all fell apart once you realised you could conquer whole of persia in 2-3 turns. In Pharaoh it doesn't feel that way, you need to do more planning before starting an expansion because if you don't you'll get eaten alive. I was very sceptical before trying it out but after I did I only hope Medieval 3 will come out afterall and have a similar scale to Dynasties. The only issue I really have with Pharaoh is battles. The units felt weird on charges for a decade now but I just can't get used to it. This certainly needs work (might be glazing but Rome 1 was perfect for me in that regard so I wish they pursued that). But overall yeah I think it is great, I was very sceptical towards Pharaoh on launch and it was the game that kinda made me loose hope that historical titles from Total War will be good again but after playing Dynasties it made me hyped for the next one.
They did the easiest part. Merging two games. But they didn't fix the elephant in the room, the Battle AI and mechanics. But I give them thumbs up for managing to trick the people for 10 years into thinking that the game is good.
You kinda forgot the whole of Mesopotamia. And the fact that you're given this for free even if you don't have Troy nor is it a paid DLC which it absolutely should be because it isn't as simple as copying Troy's map and putting it into Pharaoh. Not with this engine. Battle AI is competent on higher difficulties, especially if you tweak settings for literally a minute. It flanks, it uses ranged units, rarely makes actually dumb decisions. And for the mechanics you'd need to be more specific than that. It's a good game.
All of your standards really went low, huh? Pharaoh Dynasties is a cheap imitation of what a Total War is supposed to be. CA is dead, and Total War is not even a husk of what it used to be.
@@sloganreadet1151 Its not about not liking modern TW games.... There are great ones. E.g. Napoleon, Remastered is great with moods, Empire was ok. The problem is people spending money on sh.t games. They will feed all of us with sh.t if they can get away with it.
is gonna complain about the immersive weapons and armor but yet at the same time there's a whole three or four pages of mods for this game already on steam
Seems like you are paid by them for talking nice about another shit game. Bro they have been selling the same game since Rome 2, plus for every single of those games a million DLCs. The scale isnt anything spectacular, the graphics look the same, the combat looks the same, morale hits look the same, diplomacy looks the same. It literally looks like a modded Rome2. We still have a limit on generals, you dont have the Medieval and Rome mechanic, where you can create small scouting parties or raiding parties, which were some of the most enjoyable parts of the old games. We still dont have any AI improvement, has anyone ever had an ally actually respond to a war target? This game is shit like the rest. People want Medieval 3 or Empire 2 with the same mechanics just more polished.
Played Troy, Pharaoh and Dynasties for quite a good amount of time. Well, Dynasties is exactly what it is. Troy combined with Pharaoh and about 5 new mechanics to make the mechanics pharaoh introduced work in a larger scale. Fights are exactly the same as Troy, if you have played the game on historical mode, so this release goes to prove how most of the people actually ranted for nothing, as most of the changes, apart from new campaign mechanics are just in the sphere of placebo effect. One of said mechanics, apart from the lethality which is huge, is the option to choose both Major and Minor factions (with distinct differences), giving you more options to go about your game, joining a Royale court (tradition) or going solo etc. The only thing they have to fix, apart from visual and graphic bug is how the AI goes about on legendary difficulty. Diplomacy is super lackluster and some times bugged (in decision making, for example having good standings and then 8 factions declare on you while you literally did nothing, chilling in your towns, and no, there was nothing going on in the background etc. triplechecked it.) If you guys haven't player any of the lastest titles (Troy and Pharaoh) there are too many addons but you will catch up quite quickly. The game is as great as Troy was, and the added bonuses of having the mechanics of pharaoh add so much to it!.
@@sanjnamous if they’re selling a game as a full product, then people who’ve bought that game will expect a full product, and should get that, even if it was free for some.

So essentially Troy was just a scummy moneygrab. Do the owners of thar get access to this or do they have to buy Pharoe first even though Troy was clearly cut out of this game to be sold separately. Scummy business practises cannot be justified by "oh look, its free now and they fixed it"
@@j0hncarpalso it wasn't cut out. It's literally called Pharaoh, it was always meant to be just Egypt, not all of bronze age culture's... Guess you can't please everyone.
Total War has never been historically accurate. Medieval 2 had Spain and Portugal in the 1080s and that’s viewed as one of the best games in the series. Rome 1 had freaking Bronze Age Egypt fighting Seleucid phalanxes. Besides, it was a fairly vocal part of the player base that called for cavalry. If you want to blame someone, blame the gamers who didn’t like doing hammer and anvil with only infantry.
I still can’t bring myself to pick it up though. Pharaoh was clearly cut content of Troy, and CA burned us with its release. I feel sorry for CA Sophia because they clearly have poured everything into releasing this update, but this happens all the time with CA.. release half baked game.. deny claims.. later apologise and fix later. Player numbers have barely broke 1000 (currently 360 on steam) so clearly this fix hasn’t worked bringing players back.
I got pharaoh for 9.99 on CDKeys, so I'm really happy with this update. Awesome value at that price. I think it's a game worth considering if you can find a deal
Their too simplified campaign system bore you to death in no time, who cares if there are 1000 factions really? Simplified campaign works for warhammer because all we want upgrading heroes and fight more but it never worked for historical games as campaign makes them fun. Even after so many years CA can't understand such a simple thing, what a pity..
What are you talking about man? They have like 7000 people playing right now. Which is a lot if we consider the amount that were playing before the update.
Tried it, and hated it. Not enough unit diversity, the UI is disgusting. The map and provinces dont have conclusive enough border lines, or to tell you who you are at war with. I honestly hated the map aesthetics and the UI aesthetics. Sorry but pharaoh dynasties was a bomb for me. Crossing my fingers and hoping for a medieval 3, shogun 3, rome 3, or god forbid, the greatest option, empire 2.
The only way they can improve massively now is if they introduce more narrative to a campaign. Something like Napoleon's campaigns ala the style Koei does Nobunaga's Ambition with cutscenes and events. Something to give context to what is happening to the world and to give characters personality.
Been playing Total War for 23 years and i still love it. This was an absolute suprise and its brilliant. I tryed to play pharaoh few times couldnt maintain my interest then they dropped this treat and its spot on ❤ cheers CA.. excited to see whats next though.. Medieval 3, Empire 2 (maybe English civil war dlc and US civil wat DLC) Even delve into a Song of Ice and Fire saga 🫢
I actually really like the aesthetic of Troy’s overworld map. The Greek pottery style skybox is super cool, and really everything else looks the same as other modern total war games, which is pretty good.
What I can't see is: 1. AI being smarter than a fly (the problem TW has from first edition over 20 years ago. Nothing changed in this field) 2. The number of warriors is still less than 10% compared to real battles. 3. Horde firmation and night battles gone instead to improve. 4. Sieges oversimplified. There was not much creativity put in it for 20 years. Where are the tunnels? Night mission of bought sides always being the part of the siege. Supplies lines problems, diseases outbreaks, arsons, and finally negotiation option with surrendered town. Even losses on the aggressor side are much smaller than in reality. Eg. Vespasian and Tytus legions retaking Judea from rebels. Roman's losses were enormous, taking account that he was fighting with the army formed mostly with shepherds and bandits. The terrain, mud, ditches, traps, narrow streets tunels, hidden passages, object and boiling fluids, falling on attackers heads, and strategy buildings were main problems. See, towns and fortress were located most of the time on hills and slopes. This area was often filled with traps and obsticles. Those things has never had a place in TW games. Those are things I am waiting for, not a better-looking animation. And we had a gigantic map in Warhammer 3. So nothing new.
I do hope one day another company actually tries to make something with some depth. I thought they might after they saw the Mods for total war 2 and saw that people want more depth not less. Then they released Warhammer and i was like ok thats it for this company then.
@joshmann7587 Exactly dude, In Warhammer all realism stuff like samal traps, units special skiils gone. It makes me laugh also when I saw ghosts, zombies, animals marching in drilled disciplinary formation 😀 BDW do you know by any chance which mod for ROME II Empire Edition is the best one?
Anyone wanting a great wide spectrum historically accurate total war should check rome remastered mod rtr imperium surrectum. The scale and accuracy of just the map alone smashes anything CA has ever dreamt of making.
I need Muskets, my childhood was playing Rome Total War and Empire Total War. The Medieval period is also cool, but I prefer the Roman or Emperial periods. I want Empire 2 to have everything Empire 1 had, with a modern bigger map. Many more regions and Nations and most importantly one massive map. Empire 2 if it ever gets made should have the biggest map ever in a total war game.
They still have simplified building, trade, ruling systems, majority of total war community always hated it and they are still there. Sure they do some work but i'm not buying 'they are trying to make their games better' yet! It is same CA which ruined them at first place otherwise they would do more creative changes not throw a bunch of new factions with almost zero game play changes..
I hope they actually stop bending us all over and learn from this, i was an avid total war fan since original shogun, troy and pharoh broke me, the fact they can achieve this in such a short time shows me what is possible ....... annoyed at this whole situation still leaves me wondering if i should give my support and buy in.
I do like how immersive your soldiers are. They will talk about who they're fighting and they'll talk about. Oh my God, they have so many slingers and shit like that if the enemy has like 5 or more slingers or something. Also, you can hear the enemy soldiers.Speak as well about you , and what's going on with them currently in the battle
"OMG BASICALLY ONE OF THE BEST IS SO GOOD NOW" Its still a ROME 2 reskin, its just a full game now. Still a corpse of being paraded as a living being. There is nothing to be happy about and the title of the video straight up lies.

Hopefully they go away from that terrible world map UI they used in pharoh. The settlement management sucked. I would love it if they went back to the old basics like Rome and medieval 2, even shogun 2 was awesome. Different isn't always better.
Ok... I must recognize when I saw 'Pharaon' I was like - 'Ugh, a Total War only in Egypt...' But actually, a Bronze Age Total War around the Mediterranean Sea, is actually an excellent idea - is my favorite historical era, other than Rome, and always wanted a TW, I had no idea they made one... this may be the first time since Rome 2 I am excited for a TW game and play it.
TW would not suffer its dark age if they just listened and considers the demand of its player base, we don't want a saga TW we want a historical TW dont get me wrong i love Warhammer 3 but i want that itch for historical TW to be scratched and they did it with the Dynasty update. Now I see them in a new light slightly
I have to say i like how the calvary from this updates charges are absolutely lethal, charges wipe out like half a unit on a charge amd devestates morale. Seems like they addressed complaints of weak charges and i like the combat in this one alot, its kind of like rome 2 but done much better.
considering that rome came out in 2004 and rome 2 in 2013, it's more probable they will come out with Rome 3 since Rome sells more... I'd like it to be Medieval 3 tho
I bet that is it for Sophia. In a few months you'd hear news about CA cutting short them or splitting them for patch people or huge firings within studio.
biggest 75 GB and @resonant Said Biggest ??? Mate have you seend just Warhammer 3 ?? War3 is 113 GBP and Huge Map . Still it good that CA merge Troy and Pharaon Total War hope they add it more nations so then this video will be right for biggest Total War so far . Still good video !
We should not praise them for giving us what they've promised to us, to fucking package it in an update 9 months later. They gave us half of a game, and now they fixed the missing content. I believe this attitude from us TW players would inflict how things will go in their next games. Dynasties should've been there since day 1. Thanks for the video Resonant.
I think giving it a thumbs up is one way to tell CA that this is what we've all wanted as fans. Example: Shadows of Change was bad, we give them thumbs down, they responded, and then they released Thrones of Decay, which is a good update, so we gave them thumbs up. And now they've come out and said that this is the direction that they're headed, because the community gives a feedback. Without such feedback, CA will just get worse and worse and further away from the direction that we want them to go
@@junechevalier I agree with this, but my fears are CA will get used to this and read it as, "oh yes we can release games empty to add the supposed content later on, our fanbase is so forgiving" It's just giving them excuses to repeat mistakes again, like disaster launches, people always say Rome 2 and Warhammer 3 are the worst launched for CA, I myself think Pharaoh was worse! And I hope they never get this low again.
@@junechevalier Then let them fail.... If they cant see they need to go back to their roots and make a proper historical total war and stop dumbing down the games and removing features from previous titles. Then they should go under. Let some one else make total war type games.
Im glad they fixed it but i have zero interest in that time period and CA shouldve known they were shooting themselves in the foot making it in that time period
Yeah I mean the fucking Historical playerbase has been Asking for Medieval 3, Rome 3 and Empire 2 for a decade now and every time CA releases a Histroical Title in a different period and the sales are mediocre. I would not be surprised that the retards at the Management of CA will take this data and conclude no one wants Historical Total Wars anymore, even though we do want Historical Total war, we just want the ones we have been asking for a decade now.
My friend group: “It’s alright. Worth it to play if you get it for free” Total War TH-camrs: “It’s amazing, probably the best total war game yet!” I wonder who has the most reasonable position.
I’ve owned just about every total war title aside from Troy. This update pushed me over the edge to buy it. I wanted a historical Troy total war with a huge map and the fact they did that with this update is incredible. Now with that being said where is Empire 2?
I see people still trying to bite at the game, but I just feel this isn't the right approach. It's good to still keep CA on hot coals, but discrediting Troy or Pharaoh so to make this achievement look negative feels more like a loss of scope from the fanbase, to the point that a lot of these opinions seem very subjective at best and contradictory at worst. From the "they were going to sell it as DLC" to "they included cavalry", they paint these things as being the worst things CA could do (and has done) but they are probably the best case scenario: - This game could've been abandoned, or could've still been chopped up for DLC. This isn't even a CA thing, it's business. Pharaoh was business speaking a dead product, and the fact that they did this update for free shows the passion the Sofia team has, and the goodwill that can still be found back at HQ. - As for "historical accuracy" being a criticism, dude the total war "classics" were all grossly inaccurate, let's not paint a picture of a game that did not exist. There's a reason why Europa Barbarorum and Stainless Steel were so popular. CA needs to take in all the Ls it can, but it also deserves to keep the Ws. I am definitely going to buy this game and will be enjoying it, because after all is said and done this is why each one of us got so angry: we want an enjoyable game. This looks like an enjoyable game, so I don't need to be angry for now. No one is forcing us to stick around and to keep being angry, and I find some expectations people put on the TW franchise to be quite unhealthy, for us. One common trope I see is the "Old Guard" labeling whoever enjoys this game as "redditors / casuals who like this game and have no idea what they're talking about, because they never played the older games". They're not even lashing out at CA anymore, just sitting on a high horse and demeaning anyone who doesn't share their opinion. That quickly spirals into a genuinely nasty attitude, and at one point you must recognize that maybe this franchise doesn't have anything to offer for you anymore, and move on to something else.
Simplified building, trade, recruiting, ruling systems are still not touched even a bit! Then why should i be happy there are only more factions? They will become boring same as other older factions in no time, you people are trying to sell 'free dlc' like it is something amazing while in reality it was entirely CA's fault the game sucked so much. If they tried to sell it nobody would buy it so nope, they made it free because they had to. Simplified campaign system works for warhammer because all we want upgrading our heroes and fight more while it will never ever ever work for historical games because campaign makes those games fun. As long as CA keeps this system none of them will gain serious sales simply because they suck..
I still play Empire, Rome2 and Attila (all with mods obvs). I'll pay attention when CA do a historical title what's actually historical. Empire 2 is where I want to spend my money.
I wish they wouldve fixed empire but they should just make Empire 2 with the true level of politics and philosophy with a large stretching era. From the mid 1600s into the 1800s
This is still crap CA has had the ability to make a game that can be huge in terms of real size armies. But no, they still keep the stupid 20 unit stacks, 1,000 man armies. It's 2024 you can up your scale 100 times. And their engine sucks, they need to trash it and start from scratch... There are still stuff in the game code all the way back from empire when the e home first gave birth.
Firstly, this game IS NOT FREE! At its core of it, what NEW concept other than lethality was added? They didn’t improve on the actual visuals or the AWFUL bow animations. Just like EA all they did was bring features back that never should’ve stopped being in the games to begin with imo. I mean a family tree is nothing new, they improved the look sure 🤷🏼♂️. The game is good don’t me wrong but they didn’t do anything to prove to us that even a Med 3 wouldn’t be terrible let’s be honest. I hope I am wrong and Sofia should be the only CA studio at this point if the Execs had half a brain, but all they care about is money, the folks at Sofia truly seem to care.
I mean, I'm not downloading 75 GB or however much this thing is, I rather grab a mod for Rome or medieval 2 that does a better job and is reasonably sized.
Italy had the Proto-Villanovan culture at the time, which was far less sophisticated than Mycenae, Egypt, etc., so wouldn't be a good choice for a faction. And the Gauls did not even appear until around the 5th century BC, not for another 500-600 years after the start of the game.
I played every total war like game - th-cam.com/video/ZPSpTZyo03k/w-d-xo.html

CA: let us combine a shitty game with a shitty game to make a game.
it is still shit.
this game had a 24h peak at 4000.
All time 6600
These 2 games are more or less no longer played.....even this "update" is the franchise "total war" burning money to buy themself time for a new release, because they don't have a historic title for us.....AGAIN.
Rome 2: 5700 24h
All time 118.000
Medieval 2: 4200 24h
All time: 8400
Warhammer 3: 21.000 24h
All time: 166.000
This game is actual played.
MEDIEVAL THREE!!!!!!!!

True, but at the same time I imagine they had to cut a bunch of stuff, some factions are just reuses of the sea-people units,
So as dlc-s there would be more but definitely not enough to justify the shit show of the release (or the inevitable pricetags on the dlc)
Also some of the minor factions could definitely be full-on factions but aren't and probably are going to stay minor faction forever.
@@cathulionetharn5139 Yeah totally. The armor from what I understand is like 70% accurate but the horned helmets of the sea peoples is actually rooted in history and not strictly fantasy

@@ДушманКакдела We have depictions form the Egyptians
@nickwoodfin2690 they depict cultures that have left no evidence of their existence, aside from tangential references from other kingdoms.
They are also depicted in an extremely biased way, that leaves very little for interpretation. The Pharoah is depicted as being dozens of meters tall and shooting arrows as long as sail boats.

It's just a video game, also chariots aren't as common as you are assuming they were.
isn't the rumor told us that CA actually know its not cavalry time, but they still put it anyway because fans asked for it?
@@rumiazhari7387 I think most were for more unit diversity. some wanted cavalry probably but again that's way out of this era, would be like putting muskets and cannons in the roman age. so your not playing a bronze age historical game at this point. we still are not getting a true historical game.
@@jlickley1118 More like getting a unit of Tagmata 400 years early during the fall of Rome. Which if you load up Atilla oh would you look at that. Notice something about the AI & how it feels so much better than what we currently have.

@@rumiazhari7387 That was also a case of CA not realizing that the old "use the base map but have a different time period" expansion dlc formula just WOULD not work for 3K when it is a period that is so heavily focused on the individuals who would go on to become characters. They're pulling a No Mans Sky and I'm here for it. Bring on Medieval 3
No man's sky was a game initially made by like 20 devs. Total war: pharoh was made by a massive game company that had been making games of its genre for years.
Empire next! As a TW fan since the OG Shogun, i’d written them off as the Warhammer studio. Glad they’re showing some love to the folks that got them where they are…
I'm not going to praise a company for a DLC which has the content that the base game should have had at launch.

Could you imagine total war lord of the rings game?
Diplomacy is super lackluster and some times bugged (in decision making, for example having good standings and then 8 factions declare on you while you literally did nothing, chilling in your towns, and no, there was nothing going on in the background etc. triplechecked it.)
If you guys haven't player any of the lastest titles (Troy and Pharaoh) there are too many addons but you will catch up quite quickly. The game is as great as Troy was, and the added bonuses of having the mechanics of pharaoh add so much to it!.

Still not going to play it again
All the dlc they cut out of the game. Just crashed and burned and is trying to make good faith apologies.
I actually really like the aesthetic of Troy’s overworld map.
The Greek pottery style skybox is super cool, and really everything else looks the same as other modern total war games, which is pretty good.
What I can't see is:
1. AI being smarter than a fly (the problem TW has from first edition over 20 years ago. Nothing changed in this field)
I thought Manor Lords may scratch the itch a bit but the AI is even more retarted in that then Total War.
I hope theyll shrink the number of warriors
i was on the fence about Pharaoh Total war until i saw this video thanks alot
Anyone wanting a great wide spectrum historically accurate total war should check rome remastered mod rtr imperium surrectum. The scale and accuracy of just the map alone smashes anything CA has ever dreamt of making.
Sadly for me, Im not interested at all in bronze age warfare.
Bingo
I need Muskets, my childhood was playing Rome Total War and Empire Total War.
The Medieval period is also cool, but I prefer the Roman or Emperial periods.
I want Empire 2 to have everything Empire 1 had, with a modern bigger map.
Many more regions and Nations and most importantly one massive map.
Empire 2 if it ever gets made should have the biggest map ever in a total war game.
man every youtuber just loving this game right now holysht
The only bad thing is they won't support it further with dlcs and new content which is sad...
Mods will fill that gap.
@@huntclanhunt9697 correct, with a base that looks this good? Mods can just run with it
That's because everything in the update was supposed to be DLC. This is the final product so to speak
"OMG BASICALLY ONE OF THE BEST IS SO GOOD NOW" Its still a ROME 2 reskin, its just a full game now. Still a corpse of being paraded as a living being. There are no new features, no new ways to play, strategize or control the battlefield. All of it has been done before and done better. There is nothing to be happy about and the title of the video straight up lies.
but hey, big map
I'm really pissed off because I've spent 60$ on troy when the just gave the entire game away to everyone for cheeper and with more content?
They gave Troy away for FREE, you snooze you lose
@@sanjnamous I'm confused
@@Beenit869 it was released on EPIC platform for free at first release
@@Beenit869it was free on epic games the first day it released they had a contract with epic to release it on epic first then it came out on Steam 1 year later for money 🤷🏼♂️
It was completely free on epic store. I have it myself
I'm sure this will lead to some new sales of the game, so not sure if they won't earn anything from it
Hopefully they go away from that terrible world map UI they used in pharoh.
Already spent 12 hours with it, yeah its good.
Alexander the great mod or DLC will be crazy with this map (or even a crusades DLC)
Cool, now we just need Medieval 3 or Empire 2 for a real "fully-fledged historical Total War game"
considering that rome came out in 2004 and rome 2 in 2013, it's more probable they will come out with Rome 3 since Rome sells more... I'd like it to be Medieval 3 tho
While yes,it is impressive what they have done, battles are still badly balanced, unrealistic and lack impacts
It just looks silly
This series really took the fall when they introduced this hero/champion system .Total flop once more takes away completely the feel of the game
I love a good redemption story, I might actually pick the game up after this
The Warhammer total war games are the biggest total war games that exist.
but this is the largest HISTORICAL Total War
MFW Grimgor the babyeater fat orc killing most of my units because he has the legendary buttplug weapon and overpowered magic based abilities
Yeah but only fucking dweeb plays that shit
@@Mantis42 how its only egypt and part of greece XD
@@shagrix6605 idk i'm just telling the other guy that warhammer doesn't apply
I bet that is it for Sophia. In a few months you'd hear news about CA cutting short them or splitting them for patch people or huge firings within studio.
When gamers unite amazing things happen. Make no mistake though this is 100% due to the backlash and outrage
biggest 75 GB and @resonant Said Biggest ???
@@perfectheretic I get you, but with Sega breathing down their necks, I hope they won't play around like that in the future
@@TheIronMenace The issue is Nobody wants to make total war type of game. D:
Im glad they fixed it but i have zero interest in that time period and CA shouldve known they were shooting themselves in the foot making it in that time period
Yeah I mean the fucking Historical playerbase has been Asking for Medieval 3, Rome 3 and Empire 2 for a decade now and every time CA releases a Histroical Title in a different period and the sales are mediocre.
I would not be surprised that the retards at the Management of CA will take this data and conclude no one wants Historical Total Wars anymore, even though we do want Historical Total war, we just want the ones we have been asking for a decade now.
Me too. I admire the work just going to pass on this. Was really hoping for a re-make of empire total war or medieval total war 3.
My friend group:
“It’s alright. Worth it to play if you get it for free”
Total War TH-camrs:
“It’s amazing, probably the best total war game yet!”
I wonder who has the most reasonable position.
You and youre genius friends
I’ve owned just about every total war title aside from Troy. This update pushed me over the edge to buy it. I wanted a historical Troy total war with a huge map and the fact they did that with this update is incredible. Now with that being said where is Empire 2?
I really want Medieval Total War 3 and Rome Total War 3 🙏
There is a bug right now where I was chasing some running away.Soldiers and a bunch of their heads were like cut off and they were still running
Pharaoh-dynasties is CA's way of polishing a Turd
Yes!!!! It is still sh.t
You sure like the sound of your voice...
From the "they were going to sell it as DLC" to "they included cavalry", they paint these things as being the worst things CA could do (and has done) but they are probably the best case scenario:
- This game could've been abandoned, or could've still been chopped up for DLC.
As long as CA keeps this system none of them will gain serious sales simply because they suck..
sounds like a paid ad
None of this matters if the gate bug is still there, archers don’t skirmish, and artillery just runs forward still
I still play Empire, Rome2 and Attila (all with mods obvs). I'll pay attention when CA do a historical title what's actually historical. Empire 2 is where I want to spend my money.
Im sorry but, I dont know what it is about this game, it just feels too different from the TW games I loved to play. I really wanted to like this one.
I wish they wouldve fixed empire but they should just make Empire 2 with the true level of politics and philosophy with a large stretching era. From the mid 1600s into the 1800s
I'm eagerly awaiting for them to make Total War Middle Earth and Total War Medieval III.
doubt ca could actually make medieval 3 well; n who cares if they touch middle earth when u have mods like third age
But there is still no blood or gore and enemies don’t actually hit each other like they do in the older games
Yeah they separated the blood dlc again
This is still crap
CA has had the ability to make a game that can be huge in terms of real size armies. But no, they still keep the stupid 20 unit stacks, 1,000 man armies.
It's 2024 you can up your scale 100 times. And their engine sucks, they need to trash it and start from scratch... There are still stuff in the game code all the way back from empire when the e home first gave birth.
The surface area of the campaign map seems to me like it's smaller than in Rome 2.
Im so happy they made this. I am now going to but it
So they slapped two games together that they already had
I mean, I'm not downloading 75 GB or however much this thing is, I rather grab a mod for Rome or medieval 2 that does a better job and is reasonably sized.
I would love to see a wounded mechanic where the wounded trickle back off map and if they make it they return to service
They need to have continuous support for their titles!
They should really add Italy and Gaul as well make this truly the largest ever
Italy had the Proto-Villanovan culture at the time, which was far less sophisticated than Mycenae, Egypt, etc., so wouldn't be a good choice for a faction. And the Gauls did not even appear until around the 5th century BC, not for another 500-600 years after the start of the game.
