Just enough tech to make it usable and easy to live with, but not too much so that it stays an analogue experience. This is, in my opinion, the golden age of modern petrol automotive work. The absolute sweet spot.
Thank you so much for this video Harry. I've owned my F430 for 6 years now, and although it is an F1 version I absolutely agree with all you say about it. Especially your comment about it feeling analogue. While these cars are packed with electronic systems, Ferrari did a magic job of making the F430 feel like it is analogue, and dare I say a little bit raw, which is no bad thing, and how a proper Ferrari should be. Your road trip videos inspired me to do just that, and I have now done two fantastic trips to Italy and back in mine. It was nothing less than a faithful companion being completely reliable, comfortable, and utterly mesmerising on those mountain passes (Susten, Great St Bernard and Futa). In fact by some stroke of luck I did the Futa from one end to the other without being stuck behind another vehicle of any sort. Had the road seemingly all to myself, which was just shear joy and kept me smiling for days. Again, thank you for your wonderful videos, keep them coming, and I think you should give an F430 a home in your Barn :)
Nothing wrong with it being an F1 equipped F430, the point of this video was to highlight the F430 generally and to point out the manual version is one of the most exciting manual cars there is, while the F1 version is one of the best bang for buck modern V8 Ferrari. I wouldn't have a 328 or 355 but I'd love a 430 and maybe a 458 speciale or F8 Tributo. It's right up there so enjoy!

Absolutely. Something about it that just reminds me there is still a life in absolute control of the machine. The imperfect shift is what makes me feel more connected and that my inputs matter, taunting me to improve further still.
The pause between revs on a manual is like the car taking a breath. It feels human. Double clutches feel very cold and impersonal. I don't want to own any more automatic cars.
Following this review a couple of months ago I managed to secure a silver manual with black leather carbon sports seats with just 1400 miles from a dealer out of a collection. I had it all checked out and ostensibly it’s a new car and drives like one as it’s been properly looked after. I’ve had a number of wonderful cars in my life but this is simply outstanding; manual, naturally aspirated, designed for the road, perfect bhp/power/size for uk roads and the sound is like driving around with Pavarotti singing in the back. I can’t thank you enough Harry for making me aware. It’s an absolute keeper ❤️ and as you say “it’s a total gem, off the scale”. Thank you Harry!

I have to agree with you Mark, but just a few years earlier. I worked in a Ferrari shop for a couple of years and while there were several other makes on the floor, for some reason I ended up in the Ferrari more often than most. ;^) Another post commented on the different experience with an open car. I never checked so fast if my car was still in the garage......., OK mines is a Spider in the same spec. And agree Harry it is a master piece, the steering, the driveability and of course that soundtrack.....Again a great video Harry!! Chapeau
In my humble opinion, the 575 suffered in terms of looks compared to 550 similar to 512TR and 512M. In both the cases, the pre-facelift cars (512TR and 550) were the better cars to look at (and drive). They just made the front end ugly and added an F1 shitbox to ruin the driving experience.
I was 8 years old when the F430 was launched and it instantly became my ultimate dream car. 16 years later and it still is my favourite Ferrari. I want an 430 Scuderia, but I wouldn't say no to any configuration of the F430.
After owning a couple earlier Ferrari’s with manual shift, I’d thought I’d try an F1 shift and bought an 08 Rosso Corsa F430 spider. Honestly, I was worried that I’d not enjoy or get used to the F1 long term. Well, after a couple years now I absolutely love it! It shifts smooth and the downshifting is awesome. I would not change back to a manual. ( although the manual is more likely to continue to climb in value). I’d been doing that for 20 years and I’m over it. It’s a fantastic car.
Has always been my dream car , and I was lucky to have been able to buy one recently . Puts a smile on my face every single time . Best purchase I have made so far . Anyone planning on getting one of these , just go for it. Its simply magic :)
Hi Harry, I have the F430 spider f1 , but if you luv the sound in the coupe, you will go bonkers on how orgasmic the spider sounds at full throttle! I also thank you for this review I think you just increased the value of my 430!
There's something about pre VTC Honda engines that make them sound a bit more raw than a K series. I just purchased a DC4 as a base for a build and it'll be receiving a B20 (B18c bored & stroked) instead of a K series.
I was fire and ice when the F430 came out, over the years I forgot about it. But I remember the V12 Ferrari review you made some time ago. Both cars really shine now. Love that open gated box, and that sound of it. The V8 is a master piece, the Mezger of Ferrari. Love the review, SIr!
Yeah, the rest was WILD THRASHING of the car. But what do you expect from a car that’s never been tuned for any road. How can someone comment about it if it’s never been tuned for a road? Race drivers tune for EVERY road they drive on AND for hot and cold conditions etc... All we see in these videos is USER ERROR. You say it’s bouncing at the corner, well, TUNE THE THING. The next 10 years are spent tuning the car. No complaints are acceptable here!
What a tremendous video. One of my favorite all time cars. I remember just when i was getting into cars, I saw a f430 Spider at the local shops, and just sat starting at it for a good 20 minutes.
Congratulations Harry! Whoever was responsible for the concept of the introduction of the video deserves an award. Your brilliant execution evidently helped as well!
Fell in love with this car when it came out. I was 13. Bought one (spider) in Rosso Crema two years back. They say never meet your heroes. It was a million times better in real life.
Hi Harry! I keep my horses in Chilson and live in chippy. Just wanted to say I bloody love your videos, they give me an insight into a world of motoring I might not have ever had without you. Cheers!
I love this! TH-cam is so full of breathless fan-girling about how amazing the latest halo car is. Or children with their caps on backwards drag racing Daddy's orange Koenigsegg vs last year's Bugatti and throwing gang signs out the window. Thanks for reminding us that an "entry level" Ferrari with a gearbox is still something to aspire to!
I'm not much of a Ferrari man but that intro was sensational. A new Harry's Garage video on a Friday means my weekend has kicked off to a great start. Great to see you back on public roads again doing your thing. Thank you again Harry, Keep them coming. God bless.
Harry, I’m enjoying all of your videos since subscribing. I bought a F430 spider manual a few years back on Dickie Meaden’s advice and haven’t looked back. Looking for a really good Fulvia now. Keep up the good work.
amazing video as usual!! I bought my first ferrari today, an F430 with the F1 gearbox. I'm literally living my motoring dream. Just wanted to share this!!
Just come back from a drive in my manual 430 Spider to find your video waiting for me. What a perfect day! Glad you liked it, i LOVE mine. Been to Italy in it twice no problem. Never gunna sell it 🚗❤️ Great video Cheers.
Same here but I have a manual 430 coupe. Also done the drive to Côte D’Azur and Italy a few times, and like you, found it to be a pleasure. They are just so much fun to drive and I certainly can’t see myself selling mine. Hope you enjoyed your drive earlier today!

Wonderful review Harry and absolutely spot on in terms of this being a really special ferrari... mine is a manual spider and I bought it entirely for that gearbox - the last evolution of the iconic open gate shift. Great points on practicality also - i've had the boot filled with suitcases and soft bags and still managed to squeeze in my mates 4C spider roof as well after he decided to take it off during a road trip but ran out of room to carry it in the Alfa !
that’s great impression for me 🇯🇵 We japanese drive right steering too so F430 has last manual gearbox in Ferrari series now my car is XKR convertible (X100)🇬🇧
Hey Harry, this review is top notch! I’m in the Mid-West where there are virtually no curves or hills so I just happily tool around in my old Hudson or some other 60’s barge. Around here we don’t ever see an exotic car on the road so for me to see footage of them in motion on a challenging road is a treat. The thing that shines through for me is your fair and practical real world review of the cars wether it be a high priced exotic or an every man’s model. Thank you.
Elated to watch your review on the gated F430! I love my gated 430 (have a gander at my uploaded video) and will never trade it for a newer Ferrari. It is the end of a special era I have always loved Ferrari for. Cheers 🥂
I own a 2005 F1 430 and right now I am converting the car to a manual with all new Ferrari parts. I am an old school manual guy. I also have a Triumph TR4A and I love the shifting process. I don’t care if the F1 is faster. The 430 is wonderful to drive and it rides very smooth on even rough roads. I always leave it in the Sport mode. What I don’t like is the rear visibility when backing up and the turn signal indicator lights. They are in a bad position and are not bright enough. The radio is the worst radio ever and want to change it out with a better one but to be honest I hardly use it. Listening to the engine is better than music. Other than that it is a real joy to drive. Surprising I get more thumbs up with my Triumph but there is no experience like driving a Ferrari. I will be excited to drive my car when it comes back from the shop with the gated shifter. The shop I am using has done many conversions so I feel confident they will do a good job.
Stunning machine! But the Scuderia can be converted to manual! I'm really thinking about converting mine in the future, I saw a Scuderia manual last year at an event in the USA, if I'm not mistaken it was converted in Texas, and since then it doesn't leave my head! Regarding the comparison with the F40, we know that in the real world the F40 is much faster, even faster than the Scuderia ... Always a great content
Chuckie it was my dream too ever since I first saw it at the 99 car show. So I finally bought one a week ago. A 2001 red manual spyder. I can’t even believe how much I love this car. I highly recommend you buy one. But only a manual! It’ll even probably go up in value over the years
I have a 430. Its being converted to a manual as I write this. It is a wonderful car to drive and I think its the best deal for a used super car. As Harry mentioned best bang for the buck. Everything he says in the video is true. The part I don't like is the stock radio. It is just awful but I never use it. The engine is what I like to listen to. That is part of the driving experience and I have always been a manual guy so I hope to be more connected to the car when it is finished. I believe I can get the money back that I spent on the coversion when I sell my car due to the fact all original Ferrari parts will be used and the price of factory manuals have recently sky rocketed.
Are you sure you can’t afford a Ferrari? My manual shift 3.2 cost £31k. Sublime at high revs! Very under-rated, now getting hard to find, but take another look at a 1988 Mondial 3.2! Buy a higher mileage too. A well used car with lots of history is the way into smiles!
Spottend one just an hour ago, a red one ,(2006) a manuel too, Fantastic sound accelerating though the gears entering on the highway !cool seeing it Reviewd by a proper car enthusiast on yt now😃. Thanks Harry.
Super video as usual, Harry. I loved the F355 manual. Never tried a 430 with proper transmission... How would you say they compare? I personally despise the early paddle boxes.
After a lifetime on the sidelines I just purchased my first project car! What caught me by surprise is despite being subscribed to HG for years I seem to get heaps more out of these videos now. Certainly makes you want to stroll into the garage and go for a spin.

Ballin! 😎
I have a manual F430, and agree with everything Harry says. A fantastic driver's car!
I love that spec! So classy.
Fabulous Harry well done love it
THE SMILE! That’s what Ferrari’s do! Thanks once again Harry for a really enthusiastic review👍
“It done half get a move on..”. What an awesome expression, I’ve haven’t heard that before, make me chuckle.
What a review Harry, absolute genius! :)
I am so pleased that you are back doing videos they are the highlight of my week. Proper reviews without bias or ostentatious personality.
That sound is bloody similar to a DC2 Integra Type R (I appreciate a flat-plane crank is essentially 2 4pots strapped together).
And to my S2000 when it sings
Agreed! Really reminds me of my old s2000!
Beautiful car. I've always liked the F430.
One of the best car review videos I’ve seen! Thank you
First 20 seconds was the best
Yeah, the rest was WILD THRASHING of the car.
But what do you expect from a car that’s never been tuned for any road.
How can someone comment about it if it’s never been tuned for a road?
Race drivers tune for EVERY road they drive on AND for hot and cold conditions etc...
All we see in these videos is USER ERROR.
You say it’s bouncing at the corner, well, TUNE THE THING. The next 10 years are spent tuning the car. No complaints are acceptable here!
Harry, I don't think I 've seen a car which makes you smile more. A joy to watch. Thanks for the excellent videos.
Well, it is only true have of the time: with the Scud - It was better than I imagined; with the E31 850i - not so much LOL
Great video... i felt your excitement and passion
More gated shifter videos please. I specifically seek out these videos and this by far the best one I've seen.
Brilliantly made as always Harry. Top notch!
F430 is in my opinion the best look ferrari out now, the perfect blend between modern and old.
I love my F430 Spider....drove it today up the mountains....it's such an incredible pleasure. Glad you enjoyed the drive in this one
Tdf makes it more subtle than rosso corsa - lovely piece of kit and well explained differences over 360. Thank you. Manual too 😊
I'm not much of a Ferrari man but that intro was sensational.
This is one of my favorite cars with the 997 GT2RS
I came back to watch this now that I am looking for one. God bless this page
Zayd Sharif I think you and I have have a couple of future classics. 😃 We can enjoy them now and in the future they will be a very important part of Ferrari’s history.
Simon Edwards Can’t disagree with you there. 😃
@@zaydsharif5504 30 000 views and 300 comments in and two F430 manual owners already. Just enjoy your high revving gems and drive them as much as you can. In fact you are obliged to do it for the sake of humanity :-)
“Never gunna sell this one”...I’ve said 3 times and counting 😂🤷🏻♂️
Great Video again, the charme of the gated shifter !
I hope he paid for breakfast! lol
That intro that gated shift joy thank you Harry you know what we like
that’s great impression for me 🇯🇵
We japanese drive right steering too
so F430 has last manual gearbox in Ferrari series
now my car is XKR convertible (X100)🇬🇧
Last manual is California
This car was very popular along with the 360 in Japan
Not forgotten but you did polish up the image for me. Thank you for this very nice rekindling of an old love.
My dream is a 360 manual. Something about that 5 valve head that just screams.
Chuckie it was my dream too ever since I first saw it at the 99 car show. So I finally bought one a week ago. A 2001 red manual spyder. I can’t even believe how much I love this car. I highly recommend you buy one. But only a manual! It’ll even probably go up in value over the years
I confirm...😉 360 manual is probably the last real classic, no manetino...
The best car channel by far! Love it 💪😎
Never knew those even existed!! WOW!
F430 manual is one of my top 3 favourite Ferraris of all time, alongside 512TR and 550 Maranello. Thank you for this video, Harry!
430/458 two of my favourite ferrari's. Hard to beat an NA V8 in a light car
Great video Harry. I can’t afford a Ferrari (yet) but this is something I’ve said for ages!
Fabulous Harry lifted my spirits far better than any of the current Top Gear nonsense proper car proper enthusiast! Thank you
It's sad how few people get to enjoy these sorts of things. It occurs to me that vast quantities of human happiness have been lost.
See this video, and if i had $150,000 to spend, i'd buy one hands down. you've convinced me.
Wow lovely car!
Spottend one just an hour ago, a red one ,(2006) a manuel too, Fantastic sound accelerating though the gears entering on the highway !cool seeing it Reviewd by a proper
car enthusiast on yt now😃. Thanks Harry.
First 16 seconds....absolutely epic, when cars were great 👍
Great video as always Harry! Love the channel.
Super video as usual, Harry. I loved the F355 manual. Never tried a 430 with proper transmission... How would you say they compare? I personally despise the early paddle boxes.
Great review Harry. Would love to see you do a review of a manual F355!!!
3:20 - "I'VE got a lovely toolkit". Are you the new owner Harry? 😉
A few years ago I had use of a F430 with the F1 gearbox and everything you say about these cars is true, they are just epic!
It's like the perfect car.
After a lifetime on the sidelines I just purchased my first project car! What caught me by surprise is despite being subscribed to HG for years I seem to get heaps more out of these videos now. Certainly makes you want to stroll into the garage and go for a spin.
