    Those are some of the coolest turtles. Aside from the mata mata, the snake-necked is one of my favs.

    Just got back from a 2-day camping/herping trip and although it was very slow and exhausting, it’s fantastic to come back to a Made in the Wild video! Thanks Jack and Crew :D

    Jack Randall if you visit The Zoos of Australia or Crisscrossing Australia maybe have New episodes of Out There with Jack Randall like Assisting the Irwin son put Tracking Devices of Salties, collecting Venom from 2 Marine Creatures, Nursing Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos, raiding croc nests, or Milking Venom from Sydney Funnel-web spiders & 5 of the Outbacks venomous snakes at the Australian Reptile Park!

    You should definitely call it a terrapin because that's what it is... turtles have flippers and live in the sea, tortoises have elephantine feet, walk in a digitigrade morphology and are almost entirely terrestrial herbivores while animals who live in fresh (formerly aquatic) or brackish water are omnivores and walk in a plantegrade morphology are in fact Terrapins (they have claws as well that distinguish them from other groups)
    Normally Australians and Americans completely butcher Chelonian nomenclature while only UK, South Africa and English-speaking Asia get it right.
    I was super psyched to see you mention the nomenclature Rodeo!

    • @MadeintheWild
      @MadeintheWild  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a fantastic description of the differences :) really great, thanks for watching!!

      @@MadeintheWild no thank you for the recognition, I spent my entire life in the American Zoo industry arguing about this, you have no idea how much it means to me🔥💥
      We apply nomenclature to every other animal based on morphology, habitat and diet yet we I have this weird colloquial habit with Chelonians 🤔
      I have to ask why you decided to broach the subject in your video???
      I jumped out of my seat when you said that because frankly Australians quite often call them tortoise🤔 and only refer to Turtles as the Marine variant

    I find it hard to believe you caught that turtle as easily as you suggested. And if you really did, the turtle would have been stressed and releasing its foul smelling stink from its glands and it would have been difficult to have not said something about it...
    Plus while it could still be possible, unless they have gotten used to you more, they will usually tuck their face up inside the shell and wont usually be able to see its face like in the video...

      I caught one yesterday in a creek, I thought it Waa going to try and bite etc but there actually pretty relaxed

    • @JoshPhoenix11
      @JoshPhoenix11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allischa6590 They wouldn't bite unless one was tame enough to be able to hand feed it, and it mistakes your finger for food when feeding.. How did you catch him? I already have 2 but I want to find some more and have turtle babies and turn my place into like a turtle park 😁 I made a pond in my back yard and they roam around out there and are able to walk inside when they want to. Because they both sleep each night in my bed, and they come and go as they please. They're almost if not as smart as a small dog, and never are they not hilariously funny and cheeky 😆.
      So did you catch it by hand or with something?

      I just found one on my drive way and brought it in to clean the algae off its shell. I noticed that one he has looked pretty clean. I often see them on the road and they all very dirty and covered in algae but this is the first time I picked one up to clean it. I didn’t know they spray if I knew that I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. The one I found tonight is very large and has a weird front leg. I am not sure if it’s a deformity or an old injury.

    Lucky it didn't skunk you. They have a gland near the back of each hind leg. They are able to squirt an incredibly foul smelling liquid, up to a meter, when threatened.
