BOTW and Tears just don't really appeal to me the same as traditional Zelda games. Kind of wish it was just a separate franchise, maybe I would be more receptive to them that way

I think even just implementing the linear dungeons would be a massive improvement for BOTW and TOTK. It's something that really bugged me with the new games because the open dungeon plan made it overwhelming and hard to follow/backtrack, I'd go to the same area multiple times before giving up and finding a walkthrough, which then showed me something really confusing and convoluted. But I've rarely experienced that with older Zelda games, where instead it felt more approachable and when I did go to walkthroughs after getting stuck, the answer directly related to the dungeon item and I just wasn't panning my camera high enough or something.
I love BOTW and TOTK so much, but they'd definitely be improved even slightly following old LOZ formulas. Loved the video it was everything I've been thinking perfectly articulated and I can send it to people so they can actually understand what I mean instead of incoherent ramblings.

Worst part about totk and botw is that you're already the hero. There's no tangible sense of progression or adventure, weapon durability being an example of that, but also the fact you're already the hero. While still terribly great games, there's surprisingly little of the tone and soul most of us prefer in a Zelda game.

The spirituality and religious depth is what is missing the most. Replacing the goddesses with hylia is a move that dumbs down the franchise

True. I assume they got rid of that stuff to appeal to a wider audience, but it gets rid of some of the personality

Having the song of storms to stop rain in TOTK and ESPECIALLY BOTW would have been a godsend lmao. Great vid.

I am shocked at how small this channel is. The video was so high quality I just assumed you had at least 100k until I looked

Dude THANK YOU for mentioning instruments!! I haven't seen anyone mentioning them, and I think they are 100% ESSENTIAL to the franchise! It doesn't even need to be a instrument, just something to make music y'know? TP had wolf form and I absolutely loved that shit.
In BotW, they could've expanded the whistle button into a whole mechanic, and I think it would work perfectly since botw was all about being alone in a quiet vast breathing world. Imagine Link whistling alongside the birds and animals.
And in TotK I cannot express how disappointed I was for them not making something related to the zonai voices you hear all over the soundtrack of the game and trailers.
The musical elements NEEDS to come back!

Botw wouldn't have felt right with a companion, but totk should have absolutely given you Rauru as a ghost companion.

On the one hand, I love that BoTW and ToTK have been such a colossal success for the franchise, but It's also tinged with sadness for me that they were. I really enjoyed them, but have a real nostalgic fondness for how Zelda used to be - when the content was darker/moodier, tighter, more linear and had a tangible, story-progressing narrative behind you (or bearing down on you like a heavy blanket in some cases).
As someone that grew up through SNES, N64 and Gamecube etc., alongside almost every Zelda game, I know I'm in the minority now with what the younger gaming public obviously want, so my issue isn't with these games being different, it's that Nintendo are *never* going to "ruin" it by going back to how it was. They would be stupid to risk losing all the sales/profit that these games have drawn in.
The modern instalments just felt a bit *too* open and airy for me; I don't know how they could strike a balance between the old and new, but I don't know why they even would.

no dialogue from a companion will EVER be as intrusive as the fucking sages running around u constantly in tears. literally there for 80% of GAMEPLAY and activated with the same button used to pick anything up

    -linear dungeons
    -companion character
-present day story that isn't shoved into the background.
-actually use items to gate things in the world. Every single puzzle shouldn't be solvable right from the start of the game.

one thing is disliked about totk at launch was the abundance of glitches that could be exploited, i beliver getting upgraded gear early on can ruin the experience

I agree with all of these. Midna is best companion btw, though I think Fi deserves more love. The dungeons are most definitely lacking. For example, in my playthrough of Tears Of The Kingdom, I chose to do every single shrine before tackling any of the four main dungeons...because I'm weird like that. And let me tell ya, having a full stamina gauge absolutely breaks the Fire Temple! There's this whole mine cart gimmick as a means of traversal, but who needs that when I can just skip everything by climbing? Don't even get me started on the Water Temple...they tried harder with literally every other shrine! They also removed collecting a map and compass from the dungeons, which is frankly criminal! How do I know I collected every chest when there's no way to check them off? That was part of the fun of older Zelda dungeons, and in some cases, going out of your way for optional chests led to other sections of the dungeon. Doesn't matter though cause it's gone now. I also agree about items. Another big part of what made those dungeons fun was beating the mini boss and getting a brand new item. It was always interesting to see how the dungeon would utilize said item as a means of progression. Too bad, cause that's gone as well! I understand Zelda had to go in the open world direction at some point because so many people like those types of games, but now that everyone has gotten it out of their system, I'd like to see Zelda return to the formula that made me fall in love in the first place. Besides, Tears Of The Kingdom took Link below ground and into the sky. Where's left to go at this point? Link in space!? I say it's time to dial things back a bit...

I think having the key items and dungeon items as separate items would work fine.
For example, in BOTW, the tools received at the beginning of the game (bombs, magnet, etc) could remain the way they are, while also adding 'non-essential' dungeon items.
For example, they could place the hookshot (or any other item) in one of the divine beast "dungeons" and base the dungeons puzzles primarily around its use.
*I don't know if it was a good idea to lead with "more Nav'i," but i agree that she gets a lot of undeserved hate, and I enjoyed the video!*

Literally just give us proper dungeons. ACTUAL Zelda dungeons. I couldn't care less about a vast barren land with nothing to do but kill things, glue trash together and find 1000 pieces of shit. Give. Me. My. Zelda. Dungeons.
Get rid of shrines entirely. They're pointless. I'd rather have 5-7 proper dungeons that progress the story or get you closer to being able to beat the big bad than 120 useless boring puzzles with no atmosphere, no good reward.
My very first memory on this Earth is watching my family gathered around the living room TV playing Ocarina of Time, so words can't describe how much I love this franchise, but BoTW and TotK have both left me not wanting to replay them.
I hope they can get back to their roots while maintaining the aspects of the modern games that people like.

Not just the companions, but Link himself is so completely flat and unexpressive in the two newer games. And these are the ones where you can't even name him, so I feel like they could have just made him his own person, and drop the self-insert angle.

Actually, I really like your discussion about key items. I would say the runes, zonai battery, and paraglider are key items, except that they give them to you immediately in the tutorial. If they were withheld and obtained as rewards for completing dungeons, they would feel much more like real key items.

This. Exactly what I am feeling. Yes, I enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom, 100%-ed it. BOTW I couldn't stomach, didn't have the sauce. I find myself replaying SS, MM, TP much more than those 'modern' games, however. The music! I could listen to the old soundtracks for hours.

Just now seeing this video, never got notified thx TH-cam.
Idk. I feel like the series has been off since after Twilight Princess for me.
They just made weird decisions afterwards. Not bad just... different.
And to know that the BotW/TotK is the formula going forward makes me kinda sad.
    WW/TP was peak imo.
That damn durability man. If they just fixed that like i KNOW they knew about, maybe i could've enjoyed it more.
Continuity, too. I hate that TotK is basically a sequel but only kind of. Feels like BotW didn't even happen and Hestu poop and korok seeds don't help.
Hope i don't have to wait like 12 years for a genuinely wonderful Zelda again

what absolutely ruins botw and totk for me are the disposable weapons. the most amazing thing for me was, to get a new thing. now its like "oh whoop, ANOTHER BOW! better never use it so it doesnt break" like you said, nothing feels special anymore.. and what they did to the master sword is pure sacrilege, like they shat on every zelda that came before. i really dont get it.

Imo, the fandom is completely split down the middle between two groups. One side dislikes the new sandbox/ open-world Zelda and prefers the more linear story progression, whereas one side loves and embraces the new iteration of the saga. One thing I really hate about all this is that the ones that love BOTW and TOTK often despise those that that prefer the older style Zelda games when they (The ones that prefer the older style) have legitimate criticisms of BOTW and TOTK.

Botw and totk are my least favorite 3d zelda games. But if they just added classic dungeons and a linear story then they wouldve been by far ny favorite zelda games
