    If I may ask a clarification since also an karate adept, we've been taught to look (head) in the targeted direction before moving as in katas (fighting imaginary adversary). So as to not make a blind turn and possibly miss. I can also see where this dynamic turn is useful. I've watched a few of your videos and great stuff. Please advise.

    Great video. Interesting that the point of rotation is the heel. Any particular reason that you use it over the ball of the foot

    • @MichaelWilliams-mo1vv
      @MichaelWilliams-mo1vv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same. I do ITF taekwon do and we have always been taught to pivot on the ball of the foot whilst turning. I've never studied karate but been aware of it for many years but only found out recently that they appear to turn on the heel?

    • @ronski50
      @ronski50 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is my take on using the heel on turns:
      1. pivot point has less friction.
      2. forefoot has a larger landing area to stabilize after the turn.
      3. heel is in directly under cg.
      Conversely on forward movement, use the ball of the foot to gain distance, e.g. mawashi geri.
      I'm not an expert but stayed at holiday inn.

      It looks like shotokan. They love big, powerful, deep movements even though few of them have a clue what they represent.

    Really, in exercise 1, hips are moving, but in hanmi (45 o) or even 90 o. In exercise 2, rear foot is displaced, and hips are turned 180o. In exercise 3, hips are turned 270o.

    Thank you guys. Actually it is turning on heal which is wrong and it does not involve closing and expanding. Checkout this th-cam.com/video/Toxf8NHHA-w/w-d-xo.html

    Great videos, but sorry to say your supporting foot has excessive movement. If you watch it back you'll see your front foot moves from that spot, it should only pivot.

  • @pr9872
    @pr9872 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry - Nonsensical. All your turns are shoulder lead and achieved by spinning on the heal. No loading of the muscles or stability during them

    • @lagvin719ify
      @lagvin719ify 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      show how to do it properly then I will follow. by the way it is heel and not heal

    • @Veepee92
      @Veepee92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes heel is correct, sometimes it's the ball of the foot. It's not that you turn the same way in every movement, because the technique you are doing dictates which details are applicable in each part of the kata. There are even places where the beginning of the turn ought to determine the way in which you should make the turn; these examples in the clip all assume identical scenarios occurring at the end of the turning movement.
      But then again, if you are doing bastardized competition forms, then nothing really matters there. The best way is the one that looks the best; it's just for show, anyway!

      Talk about making sense... Why would you want to have stability during a turn if you have stability when you land? They definitely have stability as soon as they land! The turn in itself should be as fast as possible, because in a real fight, you want to face a new opponent as fast as possible. The split second of turning does not have to be stable, if the landing is. What is the purpose of turning stably but slowly? That's nearly like saying you have to be stable during a jump...
