    Moral of the story: go to IKEA and not a pet store to get a cage lol

    • @ronclark9724
      @ronclark9724 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      It's a shame the Pet Stores won't sell a cage as large or cheap as this Ikea product. Ikea also sells a glass shelf the proper sized to fit in the front, only need to apply silicone instead of hot glue, and DIY a lid...

    To make sure the acrylic doesn't snap weirdly, use a straight item like a piece of wood, lean on it, then snap the other bit upward. This helps redistribute the weight and gives a nice straight line! I made a big dig section for my rat cage with acrylic :)

    Putting our hammy in a bigger cage was a very fun experience for him and also 4 US to watch him so excited running around and exploring all the new space he was so excited! He is in approx. 850 square in enclosure and we gave him 10" of depth to dig and his 12" wheel...he just loves running all night. The wheel being 12" is soooo important guys even 4 a dwarf hammy like ours!! He runs all the time on it and loves it...before on the 6" wheel he barely got in it.

I love this idea and will definitely be trying it pretty soon. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ You have the same wheel and card tubes as me! So lovely to see hamsters being treated well. • @mycrittercity

    for those who wants to use acrylic for whatever, you should know you can only use specific acrylic glue to attach acrylic to acrylic, for other material and acrylic, i think its easier to use this super double tape sometime refer to as magic tape, they are transparent and very strong

  • @fuzz11111111
    @fuzz11111111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If you want to try and stop cracks like that from getting worse, it's a good idea to drill a hole right at the end of it - it stops the crack from continuing to propagate (and is a trick that actually works with a lot of material - I first heard of it because welders will do it to cracks in metal before welding the crack itself).

    • @ronclark9724
      @ronclark9724 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn't you notice, she used no power tools assembling this Ikea product and DIY a suitable lid... She didn't even invest into some screws, but her hot glue was a disaster... Aquarium silicone please...

    • @fuzz11111111
      @fuzz11111111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ronclark9724 well yeah it was more for other people who build a tub enclosure and get cracks for one reason or another (eg: I got some because I bumped the water bottle into something while moving the enclosure and cracks formed around the hole I'd melted through tub wall for the water bottle spout to go through). And yeah I've seen neater jobs I must say.

      It depends how secure the lid is :) otherwise yes I would say it’s safe! Maybe try and keep the cat away so he doesn’t stress out the ham ☺️

      Unfortunately the Platsa range doesn’t exist everywhere :( I know a few people have opted for a Pax or Linmon IKEA build instead of that helps :)

    Another cheap portable option is I have a Christmas storage bin they a bigger than this I have my hammy Rhoda in one and it’s about 750 inches of floor space definitely could be bigger but it’s good for us right now

      Definitely a great option!! Especially since not every country has Platsa in their IKEA range so I think that’s a perfect alternative :)

      I’ve used wood slats and chicken wire but mostly copied the lid from a Linmon cage tutorial on TH-cam! Kinda winged it 😂

      Unfortunately they do not have the Platsa range in the US but you could do something similar with Pax or Linmon I believe :)

      No I had to buy the plexiglass from a hardware store (like Home Depot or B&Q) but you can also find them online :)
