- I said i'd do a track day on this - i did, and it didnt disappoint.

Well said. It's seriously immense the capabilities of the new road bikes. Almost makes you contemplate even having a dedicated track bike. Loved the ending too.
Just test road one of these last weekend. It really is the do it all on comfort machine. Cool to see it in track.

Awesome vid, chapeau riding there mate.
That slowmotion bit at the end looks like a man riding his horse. You can see the moustache and stiff upper lip through the helmet.
Remember, horses are a touchy subject with the Baron. I'd be careful to mention them, if I were you ;)

Took one out on a demo a few weeks back, great machine. Give the new Tuono a go though Bazza, I took one out yesterday and it's the best bike I've ever had the pleasure of riding.
Finally a proper speed test. Have already ordered one:)

Whiz-bang vid Baron. I suspect it is the screen causing aerodynamic oscillations at high speed as it is angled so high and flat (search von Karman or flat plate vortex shedding for analogy). That is unless if felt like it was coming from the chassis. Keep em coming!

I tried QuarterMile with it last weekend... (I'm a beginner!) and it did 11,899 and with a pro it can easily do under 11 sec!
You re so good on track :D, Im a huge fan from India :), the wobble is crazy, maybe lower the screen!?
Great review. I did buy it for a street bike, but look forward to taking to take to a track day as well for fun. Any thoughts on the high speed wobble at 140, tires, set up or just the bike?
I agree, phenomenal bike, I rode one up in the Lakes, blitzed it ... Very good bike, can't do without my GS though so I'll have to skip .... Got my RR2 blade for kicks

Hey Baron, i bought the 2017 model last year and absolutely love it, i dont do sports bikes but i dont seem to have that wobble but maybe its due to me been quite heavy....Just wondered if the 1 you rode had the coded key for the pro option??? as it has a little more to give and calms the abs a touch making it able to be more stable.

Interesting the thing about the knock-on effect for the next.. 5 ahead if you get it wrong!! Its true, but MotoGP they always seem to recover pretty immediately.
Not to be compared with the Versys 1k but I have the same wobble issue at higher speeds. Seemed to help a bit when I lowered the front a bit (raised the front forks). My wobble starts around 100mph (@ 85 before lowering). Prob due to the Versys having a bit more rake than the XR. Quite annoying.
your grade for the s1000xr ?
Own and still love this bike on and off track. Not sure about your bike, but my XR actually has a ‘track mode’ for lap times and such…
That is one of the best BMW bikes I have seen for me, I would enjoy a ride like that, would make a great touring bike!;-)={ it has great ergos when compared to some sport touring bike for sure. Went to a another website to see more about the bike, and it has better than average gauge cluster, with a proper tack, not liking the all digital types so many now have. Thanks. yl

The wobble probably had a lot to do with the wind pulling on the wide handlebar and arms
I don't imagine you would have had the suspension setup for a test ride, some of that movement under brakes could be suspension problems. Killer bike for the road for sure.
Currently have an S1000RR but on a recent trip to the US129 I had my head turned by a R1200GS I rented. I know you liked riding the GS for the fun value. However would you prefer the XR over a GS even if you still had a sportsbike?

mm that wobble thing is interesting point you shown because i hate it when you take high speed turns, but it can happen with any type of bike not only trails and i prefer to avoid it. I have lucky my sv 650 s is a rail link at high speeds

Need ur advice on picking a track bike ,i have lil experience on track about 10 years back used to on my k6 ,have few bikes in mind like cbr1000rr/ rsv4/s1000rr ,need to get back to track days wat ur pick ,{i also ride a 2015 z1000 and 97 TL1000S which i am doing a project bike make it look like a cafe racer will send u pics asa its done } awaiting ur reply

If you had one bike ... would you recommend XR or SuperDuke they both seem to cover spectrum road going bike qualities (Canyon riding, Commuting, Touring, Trackdays) Main focus commuting and canyon riding.. really aiming for Reliable Supermoto with some creature comforts... Thank in Advance

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like you have the screen in the high position, mine weaves much more if the screen is in that position
Any recomendation for steering damper?? I lose the front up 220km/h.

+Darrell N i think its an aero thing cause by the screen - but yes, still not ideal.
+BaronVonGrumble I would agree it's an aero issue, or so it seems.
Today I sat on one (tomorrow I'll be taking it for a test ride), and it feels that the siting position is way back in relation to the steering wheel. The speed wobble could be due to lightening of the front (magnified by the wind screen). The aerodynamic forces when going over 120mph are increased exponentially not linearly.
I wonder if it just the tires you are running but have not felt that wobbly

I'm curious how the Yamaha FJ-09/MT-09 stacks up against this bike. I realize since its a cheaper bike, it likely wont be as good, but curious how it is for the money you pay for basically the same style of bike.

The last time I rode around there was on a bicycle and I was about 11 yrs old. We got as far as the control tower where we got collared and taken to see the Station Commander. "What are you doing on my airfield?!!" he bellowed. when he found out both our Dad's were pilots he put us in the back of a Land Rover with our bikes! lol

Saw that too. That bike comes standard with a steering damper. I guess I now know why.
What tire pressure ?
Are you moving your ass of the seat at all, scraping knee or just staying pretty much neutral? I didn't hear you scraping which makes me think you must have been dragging knee.
What's with the duct tape?
What was the tape for on the side of the Fireblade?
