    When Suga was singing the "I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be... " and all that, I remembered in NO MORE DREAM his first rap had some similar lyrics.
    I think he is singing it here while remembering his ambitions back when he began. But now he is hesitating and doubting if that was actually what he wanted after getting it.
    The way he sang it in NO MORE DREAM was very passionate and ambitious, but the way he sang it here was depressing and somewhat like he was changing his mind on the goals he had, because like he said, "No one told him how lonely it could get up there."

    Interlude: Shadow is easily my top solo track on the whole MOTS7 album. Can´t get enough of it, really, how raw, real, honest and unapologetic it is with his Suga´s expressive voice in it, and sound of electric guitars he loves to use so much. Distorted bit towards the end is an ultimate visceral experience really.
    Yoongi is my bias and I learnt to accept that no, I can´t listen to his music every day, as much as I love it, because it is just way too much to take in. It is not everybody´s cup of tea either, I get it. It is not "pleasurable" to get challenged, nor to face someone´s hardships, doubts, pain and struggle in a casual way. But that´s how I like it anyway :-) He is my anchor and healer in times of need and pain:-)

    When the beat switches, it’s when Yoongi’s shadow starts to talk to him (his shadow is also who’s looking up at Suga on stage). His shadow is confronting him bc (based on Carl Jung’s psychological theory) our shadow is comprised of all the parts of ourselves that we want to hide from people. So we push it down and instead put on a mask (or a persona aka Suga of BTS) that we know people will like.
    So, in the last half of this MV his shadow is pushing to the surface and telling him “You are me and I am you. The sooner you realize this and come to terms with it, the easier your life will be.”
    This once again points directly back to Carl Jung’s Map of the Soul theory in which he states, in order to realize your true self you must (1) realize ur persona is not truly who u are, (2) acknowledge and accept the parts of you that make up ur shadow, (3+) a bunch of other stuff not included in the BTS trilogy 😂😂, then (4) find a balance between those things and reach a place where you accept yourself as you are (aka Ego)

    Some info that ARMY found about the inspiration behind the red around the doors in the hotel, is that it is likely inspired by an art installation by Anish Kapoor called Svayambh. Basically it features a massive block of deep red wax/paint that moves imperceptibly slowly as it forces its way though archways - the wax block is slightly bigger than the archways it is trying to go through, so it leaves a residue of wax behind, that looks exactly like what surrounds the doors in the MV.
    I personally think that in choosing to use it as imagery in the MV, applying it to the meaning of Shadow, it is interesting what it says about how in life we can force ourselves to conform to a preconceived idea of ourselves, to try to fit a particular mould, and how damaging that can be, as we leave some of our self behind, in trying to be a particular thing that doesn't completely suit ourselves.
    Another interesting fact is that this song samples the intro to their second mini album O!RUL8,2? from 2013! (Which you probably haven't heard yet, but it's particularly noticable at the beginning) So it emphasises the fact that he is reflecting on what his thoughts were at the beginning of their career, and comparing that to how he feels now!
    Not sure how well I explained my thoughts on this, so sorry if it's a bit of a mess 😅😂 I loved seeing your reaction and thoughts about this song 😊💜

    Looking up at himself made me think of what it must be like, how surreal to be on stage, feeling tiny amongst the thousands of fans all around you, then turning around to see yourself on a giant screen! To feel so small & enormous all at once. Metaphorically & literally.

    It is not a full song. In the MV they didn't use full version of the song and the verse they didn't put in the MV is actually very important. You can check out lyric video for full song

    I love this song so much, the full-length version goes even deeper into this thought process. (You might have noticed by now how Suga often uses the “big house, big cars, big rings” motif like in No More Dream in his music to represent fame and success and it works so well!)
    Looking forward to you guys hopefully watching Ego too when you spin J-Hope again!

    5:51 I couldn’t explain it better myself 💜
    9:05 They could have asked for brotherly advice from RAIN, BIGBANG and SHINee etc during that time; there were small amount of OG Kpop artists that broke into America music market back then but many westerners didn’t catch on what Kpop was until much later.

    • @reirarei3303
      @reirarei3303 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I respectfully disagree. Listened to Kpop since 2nd gen and tho they did enter Western markets, the 2nd gen groups weren't mainstream back then.. more like a niche community interest similar to anime. Those who listened to Kpop then used to be made fun of unlike at present people at least knew the term Kpop and a few representative groups even if they don't listen to it.

    • @ellie_jeann
      @ellie_jeann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reirarei3303 Correct even though the artists werent mainstream to that level and fans who have been listening to Kpop for that long or were into Anime were looked down on as wackos and being made fun of. But it is fair to say because of groups like BIGBANG and SHINee from as long as I can remember they really did start opening doors for todays generation over time as Kpop and fandoms continue to grow; thats where EXO and BTS came along. THOSE WERE THE FIRST FOUR ULTIMATE GROUPS THAT I STAN, I knew the existence I Kpop since I was around 13 years old through Sunbae RAIN, Oppa SE7EN, SS501 etc. When 2005 or so came to be the more I wanted to learn about it after finding there was going to be new groups or solo artists coming out but I didnt have much computer access except for at school & library at the time and it was so hard keeping it quiet from my family past 13+ years because they would NEVER understand but as I got much older I didnt care anymore what their opinions were. As my siblings had found out through my social media they continue to playfully tease me about it anytime something related to asian culture or BTS comes up.

    • @reirarei3303
      @reirarei3303 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ellie_jeann you mentioned 'mainstream' in your first comment which is what I disagreed with because it's factually incorrect & in turn give others a wrong perception seeing there may not b a lot of OG fans ard to know otherwise. Not really sure if it warrants such a long reply 😂 Even not being mainstream back then doesn't take away 2nd Gen groups' work & influence in first reaching out to western audiences, isn't it.

    • @ellie_jeann
      @ellie_jeann 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reirarei3303 I only used term "mainstream" because at the time It was super late and I couldnt think of how to explain it in short without so much detail.

Powerful. Thought provoking too. It's harsh but hopeful. Because he is learning to accept all his fears and all his greed. Jimin ult bias and Suga wrecker, OT7. I have a lot in common with Suga we both Pisces. My bday is the next day after his. He is amazing in this performance. He so cute too. =0p-NY USA Army 💜
