One thing you have to love is how the Muppets are almost universally treated as people in and of themselves. They've done so well with their image that you don't think 'that's a puppet', you think, 'oh, there is our man Kermit!"

#3: Jim Henson's first puppet was actually a character called Pierre the French Rat, which was inspired by a comic strip Jim made in high school. The character in the image at 0:50 is actually a character named Harry the Hipster. Icky Gunk was a snake-like character who came about later on in Sam and Friends.
The fact that I know every single one of these facts proves my love for The Muppets
(Also Icky-Gunk wasn't Jim's first Muppet, it was a Muppet named Pierre the French rat, and it was used on the first project Jim worked on, a local Puppet show, titled the Junior Morning Show)

As a Hungarian, I just wanted to point out the name change. "Breki" is a diminutive of "brek" which is the Hungarian word for the sound frogs make.
The original Kermit was made from Jim's Grandmother's coat. They called her Dear.
Correction Muppet is not a combination of puppet and Marinette when asked Jim Henson said it was just something he made up on the spot

Icky Gunk was not the first one he made, and the character it points to is Harry the Hipster. Pierre the French rat was his first puppet, but Kermit was the first Muppet he ever made.
Rowlf appeared on the Jimmy Dean Show in 1963, not 1957.
Jim made Pierre in 1954 for his audition on the Junior Morning Show. Kermit was created in 1955.
I saw that episode of The Masked Singer, I had a feeling the Snail was Kermit even though Matt Vogel was basically using his normal voice for the Muppet

No it wasn’t. Kermit debuted on Sam and Friends. Kermit and Wilkins are two separate characters that just happen to have slightly similar voices and designs.
Plus Kermit predates Wilkins by two years. Kermit has been around since 1955 while Wilkins was introduced in 1957.
