If you're caring for a bird without vet treatment or anything I personally think baby birds are more likely to survive, depending on the injuries. I've cared for a baby bird and it was the best experience of my life for the 3 months I had him

@@TheBooban I thought that too. I found one stunned once. Didn't seem to be anything broken. My kids and I enjoyed looking at his feet and feathers, then put him in a dense bush. Next day he was dismembered by magpies. If I had known, I would have tried to feed him & keep him safe. Small chance with us, no chance with predator.

Never dig for worms! Take a pitchfork, stick it into the ground all the way up to the shaft, make sure it is in good then just smack the shaft and let it vibrate, worms will be tricked into thinking it's raining and they will come to the surface so fast it will freak you out! My Grandpa showed me that trick when I was 8 and needed worms for fishing! :)

@vpn rockies yeah but considering the Eugenics Movement was dedicated to the concept of forcefully aborting and or sterilizing those people who exhibited a negative mental, physical or developmental trait....its hardly the same as suggesting that actively seeking to infuse Humanity with a "gene for compassion and kindness". The thing we can do as a society is to go the vegan way. If you raised every child on this planet to value life over taste, that every animal should be granted with respect (pigs, cows, chickens, fish, and so on without oppression or exploitation, there would not be an evil world, because that child would accept all species, no matter if it had feathers, wings or whatever you can think of. Same goes for the human race about racism, and so on.
The root of all evil is the idea that some lives matter more than others

    • @adonitel5152

@@jonasl8830 Aren't plants living beings though? Should we stop consuming living beings? Also, how's that going to help us?

    • @jonasl8830

Yes they are. But they don't have a nerve system, they don't feel pain, they dont suffer, they have no brain. They are made for us to eat, they are natural healthy ressources, they give good healthy benefits to your body, your cells love them. Where do you think animals get their protein from in the first place.
The leading cause of deaths in the world is heart disease, and that is connected to animal products. So if the number 1 reason why people are being killed is because consuming animals, do you think they are here for us to eat? Also it destorys the enviroment and its slavery for animals. Just like we did back in time.
Sexism, racism you know where i'm going, this is just another issue called Speciesisme. In the end we are all animals, animals who wants to experience the reality we are born in, we share emotions, feel pain, feel happiness.

    • @adonitel5152
      @adonitel5152 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@jonasl8830 Let's talk facts, no emotions please. Plants have a nervous system that is designed for their survival. They produce the same action potential as a human nerve. A plant warns other plants of threats when they perceive a threat. Not only that, but trees in a jungle have deep neural network that uses other species to send and receive signals. With that being said I'm not saying being a vegan is bad, rather it's healthy to be a vegan, but the argument that we "kill" animals is an empty and baseless one. I'll give you another logical (non emotional) example. If a predator is missing in an ecosystem then the imbalance will harm all other species and plants and humans. The solution has always been to introduce a predator (in other words a killer) to maintain the balance.
I know it's hard to digest, but you're free to draw your lines, but please don't ignore or preach what you don't fully understand.

It's heart-warming to see an injured animal rescued. All we can do is protect and nurture them. Unfortunately, we cannot teach them abilities we do not have that should be innate to them - like flying for a bird. That was clever to drop him from a safe height and also use stairs to encourage that behavior. It's wonderful that it worked. And great to see him live free, but still remember you and your kindness.

Went to check on what was going on and held him while I released his foot. He never chirped or acted scared. Just calm in my hand. When he was free, he flew off. I will always remember this rescue. Needless to say, I threw the cage out and got a different one.

One time on my way home from school I happened to look down in a tiny bit of grass between the sidewalk divider and I saw this tiny baby bird just kinda looking at me. I bent over to investigate and he opened his mouth wide upwards. There was no trees or a nest or other birds anywhere in sight but I knew there was squirrels and possums near, So I took him home, made a little nest/home out of a cardboard box, some loose cardboard, some grass and twigs and leaves, a branch, a small water bowl. When he got hungry I fed him a mushed up berry and seed mixture, I put some on the end of my pinkie finger it worked perfect, I used a dropper for drinking. He began perching on my finger, he could hold on to it sideways, his feathers were growing in (dark blue grey and black) he even took his first short flight with some encouragement and began singing daily.
Ugh. However. A few days later, Completely unexpectedly I came home one day and he was in his box passed away laying looking so peaceful on his pillow case-bed. I was honestly devastated, but I’ve heard for a while that lone baby birds usually meet this terrible fate. I really thought this baby had a chance though. Rest in peace Juniper. I don’t know if it was something I did, but if it was I’m really sorry buddy. I tried so hard

This is great. Thanks for coming to the rescue.
Robins are the state bird for WI where I live.
Occasionally they nest in my lilacs low enough for me to see the eggs hatch out and watch the babies grow up.
The neighbors have cats that wander back and forth so I try to watch when the baby robins leave the nest. They are usually on the ground only part of the day. With adults to coax them to fly it normally means they can reach low hanging branches before dark. I try to make certain they are in a tree for the night, that way they should be safe till morning when they will get strong and fast enough to avoid the cats. I live ten miles from the nearest city so we need the cats to control the rodents.
Crows and other birds such as black birds, starlings, and grackles toss baby birds to reduce competition for food. Sometimes crows eat other birds as well. I will not allow those birds to nest in my yard. Every year they arrive before the robins and I have to chase them off or the other birds will be constantly attacked.
I usually have four families of robins on my humble three acres. The wooded area is about one acre. The robins seem to prefer my pine trees, perhaps those offer better protection from rain and predators. Occasionally there will be orioles that build a basket that hangs below the branches and always a few blue jays. The wrens are fussy, the little houses have to be the right size or they won't move in.
