I’ve not been told I have to do manage payments yet but I don’t mind to switch. Also, I’ve been reselling for over 6 years but just now joined YT. Not necessarily for more sales but just because I like to talk about it! Reselling has been a part of how my wife and I became debt free and own our home 👊. Love your vids, happy I subscribed!

Thanks for answering that teacher question! He does work too much for too little pay as a teacher. I used to be at school for busses by 6:50ish, then I was done at school around 2:30- but I then drove to the HS and coached wrestling till 6pm at earliest ( for a $1200 Stipend)! Then, all weekends were stolen away for tournaments (and wrestling is all morning and all 2 nights). Weekday matches I also did the same as you, left at noon, but sometimes I didn't get home until 1am and then had to work the next day! It was a crazy 6 years like that...

    Hello from Ohio...
Our town has a non-profit thrift store where the community donates items then ladies come in and sort through the donations.....ALL VOLUNTEERS. All of our proceeds go to support our local hospital. We started selling some of our items on EBAY about 2.5 years ago. (We currently have 250-300 items listed). EBay is very good to non-profits! Our EBay person has been watching your TH-cam channel for a while now and has gained a wealth of information from you! Thank you! All the ladies get so excited when she comes in with a new BOLO item. She has a question as to how to ship perfume. Do they need to go a special way since they are liquid or can they just be sent by USPS First Class mail. We get all sort of goodies in....including some vintage fragrances. Thanks and all the best to you and your family.

I mean I live in Vermont so its usually pretty safe to leave stuff on your porch but someplaces you cant do that. Winter is a different story up here lol. But in the pick up request you get options to leave stuff in various locations heck you can leave it in a garage or a shed in the mailbox etc. Pretty cool USPS app!

Kevin you should have told them that you take pictures of the model numbers/serial numbers etc, so they can't switch them up on you. I think you also said that you state that in the description that you have complete pictures of the item. That impressed me when you explained that and I am sure that would help those doing free returns help them stop scammers.

If you take returns anyway, eBay will make the seller pay for the return if it’s not as described so you almost have no choice. It’s also better for the seller in the long run I think because feedbacks are still important. It’s like any business sometimes you have to do a little bending to make your customer happy.

I offer buyer paid returns on most stuff. I've only dealt with one return, so it hasn't been a big deal for me. The (weird) return was an $11 scarf. The buyer paid $3.80 shipping then another $3.80 shipping to return it... that isn't worth dealing with for most people, because they're not getting their full $11 back after you take out the shipping..? But that's okay. Just weird :)
I like the idea of eBay managed payments. I hope it goes smoothly. We'll see!

I accepted an offer last night from someone to buy a license plate. Today he says he really wants the plate but he can't pay until 7/24 (in 11 days). I wrote him back and explained how Ebay will automatically open a non-payment case after 48 hours and that he'll then be given an additional 3 days to pay, but that if he wants to wait until the 24th to pay, Ebay will already have voided the purchase before then. I'm going to let Ebay's non-payment case thing do its thing and not attempt to give him 11 days to pay for a license plate of $7 + shipping. It seems like if the guy can't come up with $12 now, he's not going to come up with it in 11 days.

I can have a pickup done everyday if i wanted to, but i usually have my mail in my mailbox for the delivery girl to pickup. Sometimes the packages are too big or there is too many to go into my mailbox, so i will do a pickup. It is on her delivery time and i will say how may packages and what the weight is. They also want to know how may Priority, how many First Class, etc. I have to have at least 1 Prioity for them to drive into my yard, get out of her Jeep and pick up the packages on my deck. I use the free pickup whenever i need it. I only stop at our Post Office about twice a month. i also leave a little something for my girl on the holidays and for her birthday. She is a super delivery girl.

Will it come out after the purchase is made and then it comes out of that money or do you have to have the money in your account for you to buy the label first? Thank you

There are more downsides than upsides to the managed payments concept, despite Ebay spinning it as a great idea. One huge downside is it puts Ebay in total control over refunding YOUR hard earned money back to the party Ebay sees as "its" customer, whether or not you agree with the refund. With PayPal as a disinterested third party actually holding the funds in its possession, a reseller has a much better chance of winning a disputed refund. Ebay can't just grab money out of YOUR Paypal account and refund it to a disgruntled buyer to make them happy. But once Ebay holds YOUR money in its own hands, there is absolutely nothing to prevent Ebay from making a decision on a disputed refund that it considers will make the customer happy. It is a huge topic on many reseller websites already as to how Ebay tends to side with the buyer and leave the reseller to suffer the consequences. Managed payments gives Ebay a much easier path to control the outcome of every transaction.
Here's an example of what Ebay already likes to do. A buyer placed a bid on one of my items at auction and won the auction. She then refused to pay for the item because, she claimed, she purchased the same item elsewhere and "forgot" that she had bid on my item. In any other world, if you bid at an auction and your bid wins, you MUST pay for the item. But not in Ebay's world. They expected me to go through all the time and effort to request a refund of the fees Ebay charged me for the winning bid and to then relist and find another buyer for the item.
Had she paid for the item with Paypay and then written in to Ebay with her flimsy excuse of forgetting she had a bid down on my item, Paypal would have left the money in my account. But once Managed Payments kicks in, Ebay can appease the buyer by taking the money from my account and cancelling the bid she won. I don't really get a say in the outcome. Managed payments will only make this process worse!
What is truly needed is for bidders to have to have a method of payment such as a credit card on file with Ebay or sufficient cash in their accounts to cover the amount of any bid they place. Any bid that wins means the buyer's account gets drafted for the amount of the winning bid instantly. There should be no "bid now, pay later....that is, if you don't change your mind!" policy like Ebay currently allows. Buyers wouldn't get away with doing that at a real auction held in person. If you bid on it, you have to buy it when you win. It's just basic business but Ebay isn't willing to operate like that.
A second downside is that once managed payments is in place and resellers have no other choice to use, Ebay can then raise fees for using their payment system to a level higher than Paypal fees whenever it wants to. By eliminating its competitor (which they demonize as a useless middleman) Ebay has a total monopoly over how you get paid and what it costs you to use their payment system. Elimination of competitive choices and establishment of monopoly control NEVER results in a better situation for anyone other than the monopolist.
Let's revisit this topic in a year or so and see how happy everyone is with managed payments then. Personally, I am going to diversify my reselling business by using a few other venues for sales, not just Ebay alone. There is HUGE wisdom in having more than one path to use to sell merchandise, particularly since Ebay is a big target for being acquired. Most of you probably do not realize there's a great probability of Ebay being acquired soon. It's not doing nearly so well as it should be against tough competition, especially against Amazon. In the grand scheme of things, Ebay is too small to survive as a stand alone company. It cannot kill off the gorilla in the online sales jungle (Amazon) and it is small enough that there are several huge companies who can buy them out using only the cash in their own pockets. So they are very vulnerable to a take over play.
Ebay is trying desperately to boost its income and its size but it's business model just cannot be easily scaled up. It is too heavily dependent upon individual sellers like most of us who resell on its platform. It's not vertically integrated and doesn't control the shipping of its products. As third party shipping costs increase, Ebay sellers make less profit. Amazon and Walmart are controlling their own shipping costs and their delivery schedules. Ebay isn't using robotics, warehousing techniques, a "Prime" subscription, or a host of other techniques that are being adopted by its competitors. In the end, its business model is "old school" and that model is also being chipped away at by many other new platforms like Mecari.
Managed payments, if it doesn't sit well with resellers, will possibly be what drives many resellers away from Ebay. If that happens, it can't survive in the dog eat dog competitive environment which is typical of online sales platforms. If you are a reseller trying to build a big business selling via Ebay only, ask yourself what you will do if Ebay gets bought out and policies are put in place or fees enacted that make it unprofitable for you. What are you going to do?

Ebay wants to eliminate paypal as they became two (2) seperate companies and the contract between them expires in 2023. So the 3% that went into paypal whenever a transaction was done, that 3% will now go into ebay's pockets. It's all greed.

I don;t think managed payments is good, or a real solution. PayPal never gave you "seller protections". If someone filed with their CC company, you were going to lose no matter how perfect you did things. eBay will not be any different. You are STILL using a third party to process credit card payments, just now eBay has their fingers INTO your checking account and they are going to get all the fees (and charge whatever they want)
After what eBay has done to other sellers, that they are being prosecuted about NOW, I don't know that I trust eBay at all.

    • @cathyeller5722

I have to agree with you. There charges are confusing anyway and now they are supposed to take out their charges before you get paid. It's hard to trust ebay to do the right thing. I started a new bank account just for them, it's not linked to anything else, nor does it have my husbands name on it. As far as it being secure scammer's break into ebays accounts they will get into your bank account also. I had someone order something expensive say it was me the money came straight out of my paypal. The scammer's will do the same thing except they will get into your bank.
