    Great video. I wanted to comment on that inflatable ring you son was playing with. I'm no helicopter parent or paranoid freak but I saw a kid flip over on one of those things and couldn't right himself...and the lad was very athletic....I just wanted to coment on those things...we didn't have stuff like that when we were kids and I witnessed it myself and don't allow them in the pool...just noodles and rafts and water wings....but all of our kids know how to swim now....thanks again... hope u didn't think my comment was strange.

    All of the lateral looked in good condition I didn't notice nothing different from the rest. I'm starting to leaning more on the spider gasket. My supplier has the top valve for the T-240BP1 but they don't carry just the gasket. The more I talk to others in the profession the more they tell me it's more likely the gasket that's either twisted or starting to wear out. But if you know where I can get the gasket I would appreciate it. I have tried looking online but they only have it for the T-240BP2. Thank you for responding.

    Glad I watched this, as in my case water is not leaking but spewing from the top like Niagara Falls - so guess I'll just replace the whole head assembly. Thanks for the help, the last part of your son jumping in made me laugh as both my boys use to do that when they were that age ;)

    I just changed the sand for a new customer of mine. When I first ran the system I saw debris and sand coming out. So, I suggested to them to replace the sand. Now that I have replace the sand there's no more sand but whatever I vacuum does come out from the return side. The pool doesn't look hazy but could it be that I need to change the multiport valve. The o ring for the multi port looks good and I did lubed it.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like something is amiss with the multi-port valve. When the filter pressure increases when you vacuum that spider gasket might be expanding in there. This is more typical of a push/pull backwash valve but it can happen with the multi-port. How did the laterals look when you changed the sand?
      It's possible that one could be leaking. Maybe test it with some DE to see if it comes out of the return line without the vacuum attached. Not a common problem as a lateral leak you would see sand also and not just the stuff you are vacuuming up.

    Good Information. I have a Hayward Variflo SP714 and when I back wash and put it back to normal, there is water still coming out of the backwash part. Could this be the spider gasket. please confirm ifyou can

    • @SPL
      @SPL  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, sounds like the spider gasket. Change the complete valve or the spider gasket and you will be fine. I will swap out the complete valve if the handle is unusually stiff. If everything works fine then just do the spider gasket.

    I have a new Hayward 180T. Started leaking after a month out of the backwash. Pulled the diverter and two small 1/4” break/deforms in the gasket. Ordered an aftermarket gasket because Hayward now glues in the gasket and doesn’t sell just a gasket. Comes in in 3 days so I’m going to put a ball valve on the waste line to stop the leak for now. Think There will be a problem with a ball valve on the waste?

    Hello. Thank you for making these videos. I just changed the sand in my Hayward and replaced the whole valve unit at the same time. Filtering works good. Recirculation works good. Both with normal pressure (about 12). However when I backwash or rinse it barely trickles out when before it would gush out in the same volume and pressure as it did when filtering. Waste works well, which means there isnt any blockage in the backwash line. Any idea why the pressure is so low in backwash and rinse??

    I have a Hayward pro series sand filter. it works great while its running but the minute I turn off it flushes the water out of the pump/filter and basket back into the pool. I then have to re prime it to get it sucking again. is this just a bad check valve in the valve body?

      Bad check valve. I assume the check valve is right in front of the pump? They good bad. What type is it? Some need to be completely re-plumbed while others you can get away with just changing the gate part.

    Could you tell me why and where did you use the glue? i could not see an actual break in the video. I am having that problem and need to find out why the pump all of a sudden after a backwash, leaks the pool water out in filter mode. I placed it into backwash to clean out the sand came home and the pool had drained down pass the skimmer.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So water is leaking out of the filter from the backwash pipe? Are you saying enough is leaking to drain down the pool? If so the entire multiport valve could be bad and not just the spider gasket on the bottom. Spider Gasket keeps each chamber separate so a small trickle type leak means that the spider gasket is bad. This sounds like a bigger leak.

    Hello, We have a Multiport Valve of Praher Ocean 159447. Each time, we use the backwash function, and put it back to normal, it seems to work normal. But after a few hours or even after a day, we notice that the water, flushes slowly away throught the backwash flow. Could this be the spring which operates the handle? When we open the valve, what should we look at, to find the fault? Thank you in advance for any advice, Kind regards, Marlene

      Thank you for you're free and gentle advice ! We live in Belgium (Europe) and the company who built our pool, doesn't care about us anymore :(. When the pool was finished, after 4 months, we noticed two bumps under the liner. The pool is built with isomo blocks, which are filled up with concrete. The pool cover resides in the pool, behind a false wall. This wall is fitted on to the side walls, and my guess is, that the person who put in the liner, added some cement to the false wall fittings, and that didn't dry enough. The pool builder says we had to report the problem while they were still building. But how could we, we saw the problem only after 4 months. The pool builder said he couldn't care less... So any issue we now have regarding the installation, we're on our own. Luckily there'se someone like you!

    G'day Mate and greetings from "Down-under". I backwashed my pool a few days ago and noticed, the next day after my kreepy krawley had been operating during the night that my water level had dropped. I checked later in the evening and made a mark of the water level and the next day, after the KK had been operating as usual, the water level had again dropped. I can only consider that some sand may have found its way into a valve, (possibly the rinse valve) and allowed water to escape through to waste.
    Have you any ideas? If so, how can I fix it? Thankyou.

    • @SPL
      @SPL  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably their is a leak in the Multiport valve. I assume it goes into your drain and you can't visually see the water leaking while the pool is running - You will have to open up the Multi-port valve and check the Spider Gasket. It could be worn out causing water to leak out the backwash in filter mode.

It will work for a few hours and then barely have any circulation again. To note the motor never cuts off on the new pump. For some reason my multi port is wasting my pool no matter what setting I am on. Even when I switch it filter it starts wasting the pool. I had a pool company out here to fix a pressure problem and he changed the spider gasket and the lid gasket. Ever since then it will only shoot water out like its wasting the pool. Anyone have any ideas?

      @SPL  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +denice119 It could be that the spider gasket is still leaking or a defect of the unit itself. A Mickey-Mouse quick fix is to go to Home Depot and by a ball valve to attach to the 2" or 1.5" backwash pipe and close the valve. This will prevent water leaking out. I have this on a couple of accounts and it is an effective stop gap. Usually no gluing is needed as it is not under any water pressure. Just stick it on and close the valve. Just get the non-threaded type.

    Mine is stuck on filter and won't turn to any other option, I want it to turn to waste but it won't, any ideas?

      saadi saade You can try to force it but that may cause it to start to leak water. The spring is won out in the handle. I suggest finding the part and model # of your valve and just installing a new one. It is pretty easy to do. Just remove all of the screws and insert the new one in. Around $80-$110

      It depends on the model number on top - if you can read it still -hopefully. Just get that number and Google it for a list of stores that sell it.

      Have you tried leaving it in rinse mode for a minute after backwashing it? Maybe the spider gasket is bad inside the multiport valve.

    Hello great vids .I have a problem with my Sand Filter, can't figure it out, I am getting no pressure showing on the gauge when the pump and filter are running in filter or normal mode, i also do not see water in the glass that is attached to the sand filter.The water has good flow, the pump sucks it into the skimmer then into the filter and returns it to the pool with excellent flow but it shows no pressure on the filter gauge,the gauge is new,, when i backwash it the glass on the filter fills with dirty water, when i rinse it ,,the glass fills with water but like i said when i run it in normal of filter mode i see no water in the glass, and i see no pressure on the pressure gauge ,also the return is sending some sand back into the pool.Thanks

      Canadian Guitar Hack Possibly a bad spider gasket. Take off the multi-port valve and inspect it

      Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 1 more question to ask ,if i just want to circulate the water,will it bypass the sand filter? i just want to get the water moving around,or will some sand still end up in the pool.Thanks for the help

      @SPL  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canadian Guitar Hack Sand can leak in with a bad spider gasket in some cases. You can run it on recirculate and that will circulate the water and bypass the filter.

      Only thing on the bottom is usually a drain plug. That has an o-ring in it. They go bad over time.

      Not usually. It is more likely before the multi-port valve in the line.

    Hi I replaced my spider gasket and spring is not broken but only springs back upwards when on recirculate. Do you know why please?

  • @adamhudson2562
    @adamhudson2562 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the spider gasket has failed could it also leak down the return line bypassing the sand?

    • @SPL
      @SPL  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible that port is open.
