It appears to be more forgiving in questionable prep.
Seems crazy, but this is the way I do it too, but I also use overhead to get it a little more moist here in Utah. Love how you captured the classic sound of this seeder.

If you happen to see this, do you remember the hole size and pulley settings by any chance? Like everybody, I have a love-hate relationship with my 6-row. Works better than anything when dialed in but finicky for sure.

Sounds like he needs to but some lubrication on it.
if ya oil that seeder yer gonna end up with a dirt attractor on it...maybe dry graphite but you dont want any wet lube on it.
