    Do you use tarps or fabric at all for anything? I'd love to see a video on your cultivation techniques. I know you love your flame weeder, but I'd like to see other tools and techniques you're using depending on the crop and situation.

    What do you think about mini-heads of lettuce? Johnny's has an article about how they are more profitable then full size heads.

      My customers prefer regular sized heads

    My lettuce never gets that big in their trays for me lol.
    They usually get their fist leaf then have to be transplanted.

    I watch your vids and they're short and to the point. Also, I see you have all the tools and infrastructure to simplify and creat efficiencies. You must be an very good manager, so much work being done and you seem so laid back. I'm jealous.

    Just wondering, in your no till system, how do you deal with the lettuce stems left in the bed after head lettuce harvest , if you want to replant that bed quickly ? will your tilther take care of them ?

    • @NeversinkFarm
      @NeversinkFarm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I leave them in place and replant

    • @irzeke

      Thanks. I believe that Singing Frogs farm out in California cuts the stem below surface level , covers with compost and replants as well.

    "Being a lettuce farmer would be too plain numbingly boring". Haha I agree that growing only one crop would be pretty boring and wouldn't be much a change of seasons like there is with many different types of crops.

    • @NeversinkFarm

      For baby greens yes. Salanova or multi-leaf lettuce needs to be done with a knife.

    There’s a 3rd way that you can plant lettuce seedlings. That’s by using a stand n plant.

    A labour saving idea you may like from the marine world: 'Loitering Points'. These are dedicated repositories, usually just spaces in corners or otherwise dead areas, with maybe a couple of shelves and lashings etc., that are dotted strategically about the ship.
    One rarely needs to walk empty handed if one can carry something at least part-way to its eventual destination, using appropriate loitering points. At sea, much as it is on a farm, tidiness is next to Godliness, and this system considerably reduces the daily effort required to return or distribute equipment as necessary.

    • @j.wiggins8586
      @j.wiggins8586 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr Crickmore already uses this technique on his farm to shave loads of manhours off his labor bill by keeping small equipment sheds containing tools common to every field at strategic points across his farm. He also uses task sheets for his help so that there are no misunderstandings of what each person is required to accomplish. It sounds similar to the old 3M system we used in the Navy to maintain equipment. Everything had a maintenance schedule, which was broken into 6, 8, 10, and 12 manhour blocks and written on cards. We would just pull a card, draw some tools and materials, and get it done. This guy is a model of efficiency.

      @jeremykenward3082 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really interested in using the Eazyleaf varieties over salanova. Are you getting multi cuts? Do they keep cranking out small leaves if you dont harvest the way salanova does, or od they just get bigger?

    Hi Connor! How’d that new lettuce work out?

  • @SportsFanatic6251
    @SportsFanatic6251 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said you got up to 4 cuttings from your head lettuce. I am growing for the first time. I appreciate how you talk about harvesting and wished others had told you more about it. I was assuming with head lettuce you only got one cutting. When you harvest head lettuces are you only harvesting the outside leaves of each lettuce head? Thanks!
