Working near Columbus, Ohio, I found this spillway on google maps, and with a little offtime on my side, I decided to wet a line for a while, and Im sure glad I did
That placed gets fished to death, always has been since I was a kid in the 1950s, I've never seen anything big come out of there, maybe a 5 pound carp or 2 pound catfish. above the dam is good for small mouth Someone mentioned the Muskingum River, there are some absolute monsters in that river, I used to have a place near McConnellsville, I used 100 pound line at night A couple of times I hooked fish and they would swim down river , then up river , then back down river and you had to either cut the line or have your gear destroyed. At night , it sounded like someone threw a body off a high bridge sometimes lol. Don't know what that was , probably huge Muskies. My neighbor used to catch 40 and 50 pound catfish to feed to his feral cats, he used ropes tied to a tree with a 1 or 2 pound carp he left laying on the bank all day and a huge hook
Last year my big catches was a 30lb flathead and a 20 lb blue on the scioto river in near circleville. year before that i lost a 60 or 70 right at the boat i haven't been the same since then 😅
Hmmm 🤔 I think your right and that was a Walleye👍. For whatever reason I didn't think walleye would be in a creek if not connected to Lake Erie or another larger body of water 🤷. It must have come over that spillway at some point from the reservoir above you 🤷. Nice fishing 👍✌️
Great catches of fish too and congratulations on catching your first flathead catfish I think the muskingum River has some of those too maybe I'll catch my first one someday
Great video I have never fished this river before but I hope to someday and I hope to catch my first fish alot of fish and catch my first big decent sized fish out of the scioto river in the future
There’s some nice Smallmouth in there I wade Griggs where your stand behind you there’s smallmouth larger mouth saugeye ,saugers but never seen walleye in there and I’ve been fishing there for many years
A couple years ago I caught a 5.97 lb channel catfish out of Buckeye Lake at Fairfield Beach on a chicken liver it didn't fight me as much but I got it up and over the bank by pulling it up and over the bank and at least my dad gave me some good advice since then I haven't caught a big decent size fish for 2 years now
Thanks for watching, if I remember right, I pulled right off of hwy 257 to this little parking spot next to the dam. It's the spillway for shaughnessy dam on the scioto river, good.luck!!!!
@@codyakfishing8856 You're very welcom and cool me and my mom and dad will definitely have to check this out in the future is this nearby the Columbus zoo too

Yeah, That was a Saugeye. Did I hear you mention you're from Colorado? I live in Columbus but lived in Colorado until May of 2021. If you're ever in Columbus again hit me up and maybe we can fish together!
Many of Ohio's dams and spillways have many flatheads in them I've had a few tanks break the line before I could hold them lol definitely looks like a good day of fishing!
I'd never forget that day, and I travel for work, I'm originally from Colorado, we do have flatheads here but they are real scares, but we do have channels 30+ pounds around here
I just caught 2 back to back at this very same spot with the ned rig today 🤣🤣
Very nice!!!! Wish I can go back and fish there.... To bad I love in coloradi
@@codyakfishing8856 whattt the fishing in Colorado has got to be better than here 💀🤣
@@mynewsmma8057 if u like trout it's good, but I've been worn out ilon them for years now..lol
Good spot. We fish there sometimes. Nice smallmouth in the running water behind where you’re fishing.
@@ChadBennettSr nice, if I lived there I'd fish it again, but.i was only there cuz I had a job close by

Last year my big catches was a 30lb flathead and a 20 lb blue on the scioto river in near circleville. year before that i lost a 60 or 70 right at the boat i haven't been the same since then 😅
I had a bigger one on off camera, lost it at the bank, I'd say it was maybe 20lbs p

Thanks flip, I do plan on releasing more vids here this spring, I don't travel for work anymore but plenty of fish to be caught here in Colorado....
The dnr puts saugeye in just about any reservoir or dam in Ohio from what I know. I think Walleye are somewhat rare to catch in places like these
Great catches of fish too and congratulations on catching your first flathead catfish I think the muskingum River has some of those too maybe I'll catch my first one someday
Austin. I fish on the Muskingum also. Looking for my first. Good luck to us both
Really pretty hole of water
It was, didn't think I'd find a hole this nice in Ohio..lol

Fish anywhere below the lowest spillway. Carp, cats, alligator gar, hybrid stripers, smallmouth and more..big fish from Ohio R.
If I ever make it out that way again I will, I have since quit working at the job I traveled for
Where is this place located?
They call that Griggs it’s off Riverside Dr
Great job ! Congrats. I’m waiting for my first flatty. Tight lines.
I've seen muskie try to jump that spillway and massive carp. I miss home. Cool video!
Thanks, I did hear of muskie in there but never saw one

Yea sounds good, yea I realized that now. I was more stoked to get the flathead, not very many in colorado
Isn't that the olentangy river?
I honestly don't remember, it was at griggs dam
I just looked it up, no it wasn't, it was the scioto river just west of it
Where was this in Columbus?
I think it was called griggs damn, just west of columbus
Yes. It’s the “greater-Columbus” area. Been fishing here (well, I prefer the Olentangy) since about 71
I'm new
Cool
Do you eat these
No, I didn't eat anything
