Great video! It's nice to see the evolution of the car. I have the MK7 but the MK4 was a beauty! You can see that it was evolving into the Golf we know and love.

That wierd moment when you see a bonet with hydraulic dampers on an old Golf 4 from 1998 but not on the latest Mercedes A-class.

I just got my hands on a 2003 1.6 golf, One owner, 70,000km, fully serviced with one years MOT, and four new all round tyres, not a scratch on it. Silver. Love it.

What a trip down memory lane. Learnt to drive in a mark 1, owned a mark II (best one), mark III and mark IV with a number of Polos and Jettas as well. Great review, the Thomas's need to watch out. Thank you.

I think this guy has done an excellent job reviewing these golfs. Guys, you have to start from somewhere. Tom was the same in the earlier videos. Practice makes perfect and this was a very good first video. Fascinating video i must say. Love my mk6. Very interesting seeing how the fit and finish increases with each generation. Best cars in the world.

  • @Bjarkiik

I have had 3 Golf generation 2 and they were great in comparison with other cars the same size. Generation 4 I have had one GTI which was amazing car! And finally, I now have generation 7 Golf TGI the green one! metan and petrol, this car is also amazing to drive, and handling is very good, and the fuel consumption is great.

  • @17genc

VW Golf V was one of their most innovative cars. The IV was and is a bestseller, but it did not drive as well as it should. Avoid the VI as it is basically a Golf V, just more expensive. I own a V 1.4 TSI. What a joy to drive

Great Video. My first car was a 1979 VW Golf. My second a 1986 second generation Golf. My brother bought a mark 3 golf and my mother bought a mark 4, Both of which I've driven many times. Between them I'd noticed, the cars got bigger and more advanced as you'd expect. My wife had a mark 7 golf. The car really has evolved. The mark 7 handles beautifully. The MQB is a sharp chassis. The mark one handled really nicely too!

My favourite is mk4, it's kinda revolutionary and still looks pretty modern nowdays, from the outside and the inside aswell. But imo I like the mk3 interior a lot more than the others. Mk7 is not really exciting for me. After all I would go for a mk4 1.9 tdi since this engine is maybe the best that was ever built.

Would be great to get a line up of all versions of the 7 generations, from base model to R models and even the e-Golf. Even better a massive drag race between all the top of the line models including the e-Golf SEL and Club Sport S and see which is fastest off the line. And get impressions between the difference between the base model and top of the line models... (I've always bought the top spec models and seamed better quality than base models. Currently I have the MK4 (2004) R32 and a 2015 MK7 e-Golf.... love them both for different reasons.

I really enjoyed this in-depth video.
His English isn't the best, but a hell of a lot better than my German 😅.
I would have liked more explanation about the different power plants, but wonderful nonetheless.

Perfect idea of presenting all 7 generations, but such a savage voice...

I had a mk2 1.8 90hp when I was a student. Golf was nearly 12 years old and full of leaks and troubles. So, here's my advice: The only vw you should take into consideration is a new one. Definitely.

That sunroof on the second gen I assume it must have been a special order. from what I've heard it used be somewhat of a hassle to order a car with that option back then.

My mk2 is my first car and now my toy car for weekends and the track, such a great car that can perform well on track and you get all the attention!! (Put a 1.8t in it from the Audi tt) sooo much fun! And cheap!

great video, new guy is doing ok but still prefer Thomas's approach.
Cheeky editing though cropping in a panning shot of a MKVI interior whilst covering the MKV @25:26
